"At launch, the app will have tons of features available, designed to help offline players connect with their friends in-game. Along with the ability to chat with your friends and guildmates from your portable device, players will also be able to view the location of their friends via a fullscreen map, showing their actions and movement in real-time."
Sounds pretty dam awesome hopefully all this stuff will also be on the browser also.
Anyone worried about people stalking you they'll more than likely be privacy options.
edit: oh yeah it's free of charge.

Hah! Many tech savvy bosses keeping tabs on their "sick" employees!
In all seriousness, this does sound neat.

I had a boss one time that tried to say that his wife saw me logged in to WoW (back when I used to play WoW) when I was supposed to be sick. He tried to get all nasty about it and I simply replied...
"Last time I checked, playing on a laptop in bed when you are sick was not violating any company policies." Which shut him up pretty quickly.
I love this app, I think it's an awesome idea!
Currently Playing: FFXIV:ARR
Looking Forward to: Wildstar
I like this. It seems to bring my the free WOW iphone app to another level by allowing you to interact with your guild, something I wish the free wow app did.
There Is Always Hope!
" In the news tonight , 19 year old , Ima Newb is being charged with 6 counts of vehicular manslaughter. After driving her car through a mini mall while trying to play guild wars 2 on her smartphone. More tonight on news at 10! "
I'm sure many love this idea but this was the first thing i thought of after reading this.
Hehe, don't watch so much news, news is actually: bad news! but great tv...
Sounds very handy.

It's hardly A-Net's fault for general user stupidity. Potenially anything is dangerus in the hands of a moron.
Yea, this does sound pretty cool... an app though?
bah, whatever, they should finish the game before they start out on apps.
"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
You probably called off sick just so you could stay at home and play wow... When I'm really sick I can't even stand to play a game, especially on the computer.

GW2: All of the convenience of World of Warcraft, minus a good portion of what makes it god awful. As an added bonus, there's no monthly fee.
Glorious?
Glorious.
Also, they hinted at a Auction House, something that Guild Wars sorely needed.
Hurray!
We've known about the "market place" for a while...
Anyway this extended experience team has me interested. I wonder what other plans they have since hopefuly the browser based version of this should be a great addition to the game especially considering it's b2p. Seems great for the general community.
Any addition like this to a game boosts the overall experience into a game. ArenaNet seem to be putting their all into this game, and it shows with the quality that's been shown to us.
The App will be an integral part of the game.. Anyway the app developers should be a sepperate team and it shall not have any influence on the main game. Its another one of those innovative things that will make GW2 rock straight from release.
Next to GW2 can not invest huge money in their game after release as there is no subscription system... only an account system, so everything has to be in it from the start.
You;'ll not be able to move in the actual gameworld from your Ipad, but you'll probably will be able to do some crafting which is supposed to be some kind of minigame.
Best thing that could happen is that they make the game client in such a way that it allows streaming to the Ipad, so you can controll and play the game from your ipad while burdening your home PC's CPU. (the ipad would only be the controller and the display) but this will probably never happen.
