So the craftng is good?

Been on the hunt for a game with some involved crafting and economics. I enjoy making items then selling it on a market of some sort.

In Lineage ][ I enjoyed collecting the materials then making something good knowing that a lot of time and effort went into making it. Though, the downfall for me was the system of selling items. You had to remain logged in, set up a shop of some sort, and could only put, I think, four different items up for sale.

In EVE Online I kinda felt like I needed a business degree to compete with the others. That, and mining was mind numbingly boring.

Currently, in World of Warcraft I'm at the gold cap. I play the AH and dominate the market on many trade items. Though, the crafting is lack luster for me. I can craft something but if you can get 9 or 24 others with half a brain and you can get better items making crafted items somewhat of a moot point.

So I'm looking for a game the requires general knowledge of establishing an economy, a customer base, and effort in creating the items. Does Fallen Earth have a market? Or are the majority of the items I make will end up for personal use? I've read that this game has some of the best crafting. Never really cared for PvP (why EVE online never lasted that long for me), I enjoy World of Warcraft's PvE, but need something that caters to my crafting interests. Will the trial be long enough for me to experience the crafting portion of the game?

Thanks for reading.

Craftings pretty decent.  Games pretty poor.   Tho it has the potential, teh developers still havent realized it yet.   It has all teh hallmarks of a fantastic game in the making. Just the devs havent done anythign towards it.

FE's crafting is a mixed bag.

On one hand, 95% of the items in game can be crafted, and there's more of an emphasis on players using crafted items than on quest reward or grinded items.

On the other hand, all a player needs to craft is a single character they keep int and perception maxed, and they can literally craft anything and everything given enough time. There's very little emphasis on specialization within crafting. And then there's the fact that the crafting itself isn't really all that complicated. The quality of items is fixed upon creation, and crafting itself amounts to simply queuing up the item in the craft queue with the items in your inventory, and then waiting... lots of waiting -- so much so that it can feel more productive to queue something up and log out of the game until the next day when your stuff is finished.

As per the economy... there's not much of one. This is in large part due to the fact that and crafting character can pretty much craft anything. Most of what you make you'll use yourself, or for your alts, which can be a boon for the solo player for the fact that you can keep yourself stocked with ammo using a crafting mule that produces items you queue up even when logged out.

The crafting is good, and some players don't craft, so you can sell items, however, from what I've seen so far (been playing a mostly crafter toon for a couple of months now) the profit margins on crafted goods are razor thin.

However, as in most MMOs I've played, a lot of profit can be made with raw materials.  Either scavange them or find out what is not readily available in each sector but which can be bought from vendors in other sectors and then use the auction house to sell to players who can't or won't leave the sector they're in to acquire the item they need.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

The crafting in FE is the best crafting in a game other than SWG which was the best IMO.

As for the market, it's tough, but you can carve out a niche if you try.  Raw mats is a good starting point until you get a feel for what else you can sell and make a profit on.

PvP is not required, and the PvE is very immersive IMO.  The game has a great story line for those people that bother to read the quest text.

Give it a try, I think from what you descirbed you were looking for, you'd like it a lot.

Crafting in Fallen Earth is an extremely simplified system with an extremely complex tech tree.

It is literally Collect X, Y, Z, press button, wait, receive ammo/weapon/armor/what-have-you.  It's just like WoW in that all of your recipes will consistently come up with the same thing no matter what kind of questionable vegetable matter you put in the 'vegetable' slot.

SWG's crafting had oodles and oodles of variables for each slot, so going out and finding what was the best kind of inert gas to buffer your rifle's reaction chambers was -very- important.  Certain types of polymers would be more flexible and cause guns to have less lift and more accuracy over the long run, some would be stiffer and your first-shot accuracy would be excellent but it rattled off a lot harder and your spread got wider if you really spray-n-prayed.  There were a LOT of modifications to be made to all your items, and hunting down the perfect materials could make even the newbie-pistol recipe surprisingly potent.

That's the difference, here.  In FE, if you find better steel, it's just used to make later items; there's no actual quality level, flexibility, conductivity, reactivity, etcetera.  Scrap Copper, Scrap Lead and Gunpowder makes a big stack of bullets.  You can't get Salvaged Lead and use it to make punchier ammo, you can't decide to use depleted uranium for an extra-big expensive boost, you can't change your gunpowder mix to make a more potent but weapon-damaging ammunition, nothing.  X+Y=Z, 100% of the time, although the game is absolutely -packed- with recipes and new tech branches to follow once you get to the appropriate skill levels.

Good post! This is how I feel about crafting in FE. They should have made it one character per server to try and create a market for items and or not let everyone craft everything. Instead you have a market that caters to gatherers to support the crafters nothing more.

I appreciate the responses. I was kinda of hoping it'd be a little more ike...crap I forgot who wrote it, but all the different attributes that were described like in SWG (I never played it). Iunno. Perhaps I'll set some time aside this weekend for a trial. Not going to hold my breath though.

When I played last year, crafting was absolutely horrible. Honestly, I think the crafting system beats out WAR on the title of "Worst Crafting in Any MMO".

From reading the other posts in this thread, not a single thing has changed. Every item is the same, every person can craft it, everyone in the game is a crafter, then you go ahead and throw in a crafting system that takes real time to make items like EVE w/o a multiple production system and you have the worst crafting system of any P2P MMO on the market. It's absolutely terrible.

You gather items almost exactly like you do in WoW too btw.

Quote/reply for emphasis. Crafting in FE seems very sophisticated at first. But you quickly discover that almost everyone has a crafting alt; it's easy to level a crafting character simply by mailing mats from your combat character. Not only is it difficult making money on the AH by crafting, while I was playing I regularly saw crafted items go for less on the AH than the crafter would have made simply selling the item to a vendor (especially when AH fees are factored in).

You loot nodes until you have the mats you need, click the button to make the item, then wait for it to finish while you do other stuff.  Its fun for about as long as it takes for you to realize its completely uninvolved.  Every player can make everything which kills any actual interdependencies and barter systems. Just make one crafter toon and one pvp toon and poof, you dont need squat from anybody. too bad, coulda been better.

People keep repeating this everyone is a crafter stuff and my ingame experience is quite different.

As a crafter, I made a boat load of chips from selling ammunition, the lower level kind mostly.  If everyone is a crafter, then this item shouldn't have moved at all but it did, quite well.  Not everyone wants to craft, and a good bit of people don't.

Half the fun of the crafting system is increasing your skills to discover other items you can make.  In SWG, it wasn't much different than gather the mats and make your item so I'm not sure why all the complaining here about that aspect of it.  Yes, you could try differing qualities of materials which could result in better items, but otherwise it was collect the mats, make the item.

The crafting system in this game is well done IMO, and how it's done fits with the theme of the game very well.

My favorite part of crafting is seeing the new weapons and jackets I can make as I level up. Manufacturing guns seemed too convoluted a process for me, though.

You never did any serious crafting in swg that much is apparent. Im glad you enjoy fe crafting.  But dont try to say its like swg. Thats just naive and misleadss ppl here who are curious about fe's crafting system. Im not going to get into how swg crafting works in this thread.

I just started the demo over the weekend, so I'm a noob, but am a crafter in any game I play. I'm not sure I'm all that crazy about the crafting system in FE. I'm not sure I can add much that others haven't already said, but I found it pretty annoying that it takes like 10 minutes for items to finish "crafting" in the queue. Especially since there's no additional input or effort from the crafter.

You mentioned a few other games that you've crafted in, have you tried EQ2? I'm not playing it currently, but had a blast crafting in that game.

Played: AC, AoC, ArcheAge, BDO, CoX, EQ2, Eve, GW, LotRO, Ryzom, SWG, SWtOR, Vanguard, WoW, Etc.
