Is it just me, or does it seem that essentially the options each advanced class are one specialty focus or DPS.

It looks that way, but we do not know everything yet and things will change before launch. But to allow every class to be a DPS class if they chose will make every class available to every type of player. Many players want to be a DPS class, so now they can with all the classes. And at the same time, all the classes can have a specialty.
It will help with non-MMO players being able to play the way they expect to play in a BW RPG. Most SPG players will want to be the DPS character they are used to from the games they play. I think BW wants these players to have access to this game and be comfortable with the game play. At the same time, the MMO players will want to specialize to help their guild and play the roll they want to play. It is a great way to get more subs and keep the most players happy IMO.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?

That's so lame in regards to the Jedi advanced classes. I will be really mad if I have to use dual sabers if I want to do DPS. I can't fucking stand double and dual blades.
Forgot Smuggler. But who knows, we'll only know until they say something. The advanced classes probably will only be the talents. Not an actual class.
I'm okay with this so long as some of the advanced classes aren't lost in technicalities.
What I mean by that is, I don't want there to be one advanced class that out DPSs the others, otherwise you aren't really a DPS class. I don't want conversations like "You can't DPS like 'X' so we don't need you. Retrain to be the 'Y' version of your class and you'll be useful.'
From what I see, it seems only the Jedi Consular has a predominatly healing role - do you think that means other professions have significant self-heals?

A Wizard in Star Wars, rofl? Lol this game gets worse everytime I hear something new about it. Sith Sorcerors are part of Star Wars canon but Wizards do not exist in Star Wars lore and they don't even sound like they belong in "Star Wars" at all.
Rewatch episode 4, Uncle Owen calls Obi-Wan an "Old Wizard.".
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
Yea... I think that he meant it more in a superstitious kind of a way not because Obi-Wan was an actual jedi wizard.
Stay on topic, I find it silly how every single class on the empire side has a republic equivalent with slight variations.
You're right, but I'm sure BW will twist the canon anyway to suit their "vision".
Well if there's a precedent, follow it I say. Not that I like the term wizard for a SW class. Which I highly doubt will release as such, with as much back lash going around about it.
That said, read the Adept reference within the Star Wars P&P RPG. They were often referred to as Wizards within their culture (makes sense if they didn't really believe in the force, and thought of it as magic). Maybe that's where they got this Consular path from, maybe not, I still don't like it.
It sounds a little to balanced for my taste in terms of the overall breakdown. I guess this is how you create the ultimate solo experience in the end, too much self reliance (which I don't mind in reference to game-play). It may encourage soloing a bit too much though.
I'll wait to try before I say too many negative things about it.

Sweet. Much better. Still a little DPS heavy but as long as all of the primary DPS classes do the same amount of damage then things should work fine in terms of class numbers balance.
