Realtime Worlds next project- MyWorld

With APB having just been launched to the masses last month, developer Realtime Worlds has already revealed their next project, and it's an ambitious one: Project: MyWorld.

As the project's website describes it, it's not exactly a traditional videogame. "Project: MyWorld turns the real world into a fun 3D social gaming experience," the site explains. "Project: MyWorld is a virtual recreation of the real world combined with 3D gaming and social media." Perhaps the idea behind the project is better summed up by a rhetorical question Realtime Worlds raises: "What would it look like if Nintendo built Google Earth?"

Well, apparently the answer is a virtual space that is purportedly a recreation of the world (although only locations in the United Kingdom are shown so far in the available screenshots) where players can purchase and own property, build new structures on that property, and interact with other players in the "game." Project: MyWorld also boasts integration with a number of social networking websites, including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Google, and Loopt.

There's a trailer for Project: MyWorld provided on the site as well, which shows a few glimpses of what kind of actual gameplay users can expect in it, including racing cars on the streets, flying planes through the air, and taking out boats for fishing trips.

Realtime Worlds plans to launch Project: MyWorld "early next year," and also says there will be a closed beta test sometime before then. If you want to join in, you have to sign up for new announcements on the Project: MyWorld website.

lol, really?  Seems like it might be a better use of resources to concentrate on fixing APB, before moving onto this other "thing".

If you have kept up to date with RTW news you'd know they actually took people off of this project and moved them over to APB. Also I've been posting APB news as far as changes in the works and up coming patches and etc. A simple glance at the news page would show you they are dealing with most things that have received the bulk of the negative feedback.

Now where did I put my 10' pole?

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

"Overall staffing levels for APB will increase, with a small number of redundancies expected as the game’s development cycle changes and a second development project is downscaled to provide 100% support on APB."

    Awesome! I'll be there. :)

    Hehe, my thread on Metaverses.

No offense to anyone, but screw APB. This looks like it could be pretty awesome if they allow real content creation and not just building buildings. Real 3D Modelling, Real Scripting and maybe some real programming.

And with as much as they hyped up and spent money on advertising for APB added to how much they've made off APB, this could be the push the Metaverse needs to head into the future. Plus, they have a better name than Blue Mars. "Blue Mars" or "BM" could really put people off just by the name alone.

So...It's a ripoff of Second Life with a bit of The Sims thrown in? We already have a few of those, kbai.

EDIT: Cities XL... we all know what happened there. That is all.

On second thought, after reading this:

    http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/other-grids-virtual-worlds/47289-realtime-worlds-launch-project-myworld.html

    and seeing this:

The game looks pretty fail. I personally don't think I could imagine a more boring gaming experience than what is presented in that video above.

    /sigh

Oh god after what Hatter posted, I have even less interest than before and I didn't think that was possible. I'll stick to Second Life thanks o.0
