General: Martial Empires & gamigo Declare War on Bots

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorLegendaryPosts: 33,129Member

Martial Empires players will have a lot fewer bots and spammers to worry about now that gaming portal, gamigo, has taken an aggressive stance against them. New 'monsters' patrol the game called the Suricat Police. These creatures warn players not to attack them and, if heeded, all goes well. However, bots that attack anything that moves will be summarily beaten to a pulp and turned into unplayable ghosts.

As an added measure of security, players will be prompted at set intervals to type in a code. Entering the right code will be rewarded with a buff. To protect against spammers, the global chat channels will only be open to characters who have reached level 15 and troublemakers can be ignored permanently.

While it's great to see any game taking a stand against rampant botting, you gotta wonder has anyone at this dev team ever seen a modern bot? or do they have any idea how complex they can be? The mob sends you a tell warning you what will happen if you attack it? I think the bot programs written for AC1 back in the day could pretty easily skirt their way around that particular trap.

I suspect this is just for PR purposes. If they took bots seriously, they would take into account the technical level of current bots(some of which are very impressive) and design their counter measures to scale to that level.   Not to mention that any game thats mostly grind is going to have this problem to start with.  Which is why I was so amused that Perfect Worlds Jade Dynasty has its own built in bot(provided by the games Dev's) which is rather well thought out and implimented.

Already a war on bots for Martial Empires? I could be wrong, but this game just left beta and was released only recently.

Anyway, good to see this happen. Taken into account that Black Prophecy will be hosted by gamigo as well

They do take bots seriously. The GMs there are the best I have seen in any game I have played. They are always out ridding the world of Neha from botters and gold spammers. I am very happy that Martial Empires has such a great staff. It makes the game a lot more pleasurable with thier presence. They implemented this Captcha type of thing that you have to answer some questions and if you get them right you get a buff. If you dont answer the questions you are marked as a botter which is cool, because I like pulvarising botters myself. Great game by the way. Everyone should give it a try.

Be nice if there was a North American version that wasn't dead in the water after one CBT :( But, there was a disturbing ammount of farming bots running around when I played Gamigo's.

The spam bots had pretty much taken over though, they would flood in all the different chat types, to a point of forcing you to constantly turn off whatever chat they decided to use.

It did get pretty tiring having to switch and turn off channels all the time, the GM's were fairly quick about getting rid of them when they are on, but bots being what they are the silence would only last so long.

Good to see they are going to try something to battle them though, but from my expirence with the game Gamigo has already lost that war long ago.

This is actually the first time I've heard of this game, and I have to say...I like it.  It involves the players and punishes the asshats.  Double bonus!
