Are you excited about Guild Wars 2, did you play Guild Wars(1) and did you like it?

I had a blast in the beta and for about a year after release in Guild Wars, being a member of a large and active guild. I didn't really like the first Asian-themed expansion and the heroes introduced in Nightfall pretty much ruined the game for me and many others. The game went from a difficult cooperative story based adventure to a solo grind overnight.

I'm still very much looking forward to Guild Wars 2 though.

I originally played Guild Wars when it first came out, and then came back to it again and bought both Factions and Nightfall. I always really enjoyed Guild Wars and while I haven't been following the progress of Guild Wars 2 religously it is definately a game I am keeping an eye on. While I don't usually pre-order games, if GW 2 keeps appealing the way it has  might be pre-ordering it depending on early-access, bonus items, etc. etc. None the less, I am pretty excited for GW 2.

Guild Wars 2 is apparently going to be extremely different than GW1.  I wouldn't throw it out into the gutter until you see gameplay videos at least.

I just don't feel Guild Wars is an MMO and I'm not sure why people compare it to MMO, it's more like an instanced action game. I didn't like it.

Basically, I don't care about Guild Wars 2 at all.

Refer to my previous post.  Don't judge a brand new game until you play it or see it played.

The underlined part shows you are brainwashed by EQ/WOW type MMOs. Lvling to 20 in GW is not much of an accomplishment, but just an introduction. If you paid attention to the main storyline, you wouldve noticed that you werent even halfway (in prophecies) or just started (the other campains).

The combatsystem is also very different from WoW/EQ. You dont have the typical tank/spank tactics because warriors dont have a taunt skill. All PVE is group vs group, because mobs wander in groups.

Anyway, GW2 will be completely different and is an open world, so you might want to take a look at it, instead of assuming that its like GW1.

Played GW1, liked it, and am looking forward to GW2.

And as for those who are saying that they didn't like Guild Wars 1, Did you try PvP out? :3

Nah but it's cool. Some games just aren't for certain people.

I'm very excited for GW2, I've been waiting a couple years for it... Also I love GW1 and after 2 years I still play it about every other day. Personally I thought it was a great game because I feel like I was playing an acutal game, like on a console or something, because you don't really have to grind at all.

With poll results in, I gave a summary based on results of both sites I polled, this site being one of them. Here is a link to that explanation.

I am excited about Guild Wars 2 and I played the original Guild Wars, but did not like it.

I hated the lack of movement options, the graphics in general, and the way the female characters look when they run.  But the movement options are broadening, the graphics will obviously be better, and I just hope the female characters stop mincing and start striding.

    Excited? Meh.

Did I player the orginal? Yes.

    My reaction? Meh.

The original Guild Wars was not a true MMO. It was an intresting twist but it lacked the community of "true MMO's".

But the game itself was intrestingly different. Pity it didn't work out. All the "pick your set of skils" just meant that either you knew the right skills to pick or died. It also left you with characters not as flexible and diverse as more traditional MMO's. This didn't make it a bad game. Just... not what I expected.

The current material out shows a lot of fancy movements, but they also look like one-shot kills. BORING in real combat. How is the REAL combat, the GRIND combat going to look like? The movies so far look dangerously close to hit X -> ten enemies drop -> REPEAT 100000000001 times -> next level.

The fact that they are not making a pure sequel but are taking a different direction is proof enough the original Guild Wars did not life up to NcSofts expectations.

As an old MMO'er I feel like a player and lover of Deus Ex and System Shock, faced with a world of Halo. Where has the depth gone? GW2 seems so far to be yet another MMO light. Thanks, we have plenty of those. Give me something with a bit of meat on its bones.

The enemies in the video were of low levels while the characters were high-level that is why you see the 1 hit kills. It sounds like you haven't read alot of information about the games mechanics and what is available during for gameplay between each level. Take a look at the guildwars2.com website and the www.arena.net/blog/ website for more info.

Also the reason why GW2 is so different is because of the ideas the guys at Arenanet wanted to add to their game which wouldn't have worked well if it was jammed into GW1. So they made a different game from the ground up with new features as well as some of the features people were clamouring for like jumping and swimming. More info is on the web anyway.

    This is not a game.

    Response to title and OP:

    Am I excited: Yes

Did I play GW1: Yes, I hated it.

I am into mmo's, not lobby games, so I hated GW1. At least they did not charge a sub fee. But I did like the class system and I think the devs have enough experience with balance by this point to create a real mmo with a nice pvp system. Only time will tell.

People just seem to forget that comparing GW1 to GW2 is like comparing pepsi to mountain dew. While yes they are made by the same company, and yes they are still Guild Wars, however they are different. GW2 is completely separate, except for the lore. The engines are different. GW2 was built from the the ground up.

I agree with Zeroxine about not reading articles. Anet and NCSoft are two separate companies. NCSoft is limited in its control over the development of Guild Wars 2. Anet has already mentioned they are trying harder to reduce the level of grind. The event system, personal story, activities in the cities, and PvP, IF they turn out right, should help reduce the level of grind. Not only did the players in the skill videos fight creatures that were much lower than them, but they were sped up. So while it may look like one can use that static field spell right after another, that won't be so. The videos were just sped up to get in multiple casts in a 10 second video.
