correct me if Im wrong, but FFXI was basically this ----> A basic FF storyline which took about twice as long to complete, while paying a monthly fee. There was NO PVP WHATSOEVER... and last but not least I heard if you took a break for more than 3 months(say waiting it out till any odd expansion comes out) your account was removed?
FFXIV looks to be the same, with better graphics (well that was obvuious...) So basically you will be paying to play a FFXI gam, with twice as much grind, nothing to do once you reach the end mission (other than repeat over, and over, and over again...) and no PvP to support endgame. AND on top of that they charge you 3 more quid per alt on your monthly fee (that not even considering the aforementioned permanency issue...)
WHY WOULD ANYONE PLAY THIS OVER A SINGLE PLAYER FF GAME!?

Yep, and people loved it.
If you never had a chance to play it, don't bother questioning why.
(I don't remember accounts being removed at all though, and my playonline account and char in-game was waiting for me at after a break that was at least a year long)

only fools would think charging 3 bucks for each additional character is a good idea.
Or, you know... people who understand that you don't need multiple characters in FFXIV to play every class, or even work on every craft. This isn't like other MMOs where you have to roll a new character to try different classes. In FFXIV, like in FFXI, you only need 1 character to experience all the content.
Also, as has been mentioned, if you've bothered to read any of it, each account comes with a free "retainer" slot, to be used for storage and sales, and the price of a sub is $12.99. So if you purchase an additional slot on top of that, you're still paying about the typical sub fee.
also...no jumping? i understand there is no content that requires jumping, but is there a reason other than that? high gravity?
Yes, let's bring that up yet again, because it just hasn't been debated to death in the dozen or two other threads started to complain about it. No, there will very likely be no jumping in FFXIV. Shock and horror, I know.
IMHO if you spend money on this game, you are contributing to the de evolution of the genre, and the greed of the asians.
Holy crap... how bigotted can you be? The "greed of the asians"? Seriously. If your post is any indication, you won't be playing FFXIV, and the game will be that much better for it.

Just put your PS3 pad into your PC Bam, play as if you were on a PS3 simples!
I take it euro/usa servers are seperated?
in ff11 everyone played on the same servers... JP, euro, and america. I believe they said it would be the same for ff14... Also ps3 and pc play on the same servers.
dont try to find reason for them why you need to pay for extra character ....
they are just greedy and want money . the same reason they release the collector edition 1 week BEFORE the standar one .
most people will buy the collector for play the sooner they can .
Silly me. I thought SE was a business? Don't businesses try and make money where they can?
Seems pretty smart to me make all that extra cash, which has potential to be put back into the game to make it even better. Trying to be a successful business is just wrong though. It is so mean and greedy.
Blizzards World of Warcraft cost 10-25 bucks to change races, factions, servers etc.
Hmmm looks like they are a pretty successful business as well. Interesting....

How is he being a fanboy? Despite its aging tech, despite its difficult learning curve, slower rate of progress and somewhat obtuse UI, FFXI maintained ~500,000 players 7+ years after its launch. They only just had their first server merge a few months back, and are still left with 24 servers.
Comparatively, many new AAA titles level off at ~200k only months after they launch. A number of new MMOs had server merges only months after they launched. Apparently, SE did something very right in how they designed FFXI to be doing better than much newer games this many years later. Call me a fanboy if you want fo saying that... but them's the facts.
Regarding Hellbitch's comments...
Believe it or not... Not everyone is in a hurry to 'finish the game", so it taking "twice as long" would be a *good* thing. Many people are too busy enjoying playing the game to worry about "how long it takes to finish it" or "how close they are to level cap". That's a concept only really understood by the post-WoW type who think MMOs are all about a race to end-game, to raid non-stop for "uber gear".
Believe it or not, not everyone "needs" PvP in a MMO to enjoy it. Some people acknowledge that in some games, PvP would actually be detrimental overall because - guaranteed - it would attract a certain population of asshats who believe PvP = "open season to grief, gank and harass other players as much as possible". Not everyone finds that "entertaining". And no, I don't mean "all PvP'ers think that way", so please don't spin it that way.
The "lose your character after 3 months" thing hasn't been the case in *years*. Though the attempt to dig up ancient news to tarnish a company's new product didn't go unnoticed.

Ohh I definetley wont be playing it, it regardless it will still suck, unless your a hormonal fan girl such as yourself. Joking aside, one only needs to look at F2P games to see that they truly are not F2P, infact most asian games wind up costing more than the average subscription model .
I really could care less about this game, it just entertains me to see the way people like you react to others opinions of a stupid game.
I myself think the industry should be trying to take the genre to the next level in order to get my hard earned money, people like you are still smoking schwag from the 60's and are perfectly content with it, in fact so much so that you stand in disbelief of anyone who has the audacity to question why.

woops, sorry fell asleep on my keyboard watching a video of FFXIV gameplay. Looks like the slowest paced game ever made besides its predecessor. Same game, new graphics, some new features not present in FFXI, but none that have not been implemented in some other game. Not worth playing IMO. I'll keep waiting for something worthwhile to come down the pipeline. Hopefully that will be GW2.

Tell me a feature and myself and probably most other members on this forum can tell you a game it's present in already. For example: switching class by switching weapons, Azuga: Age of Chaos, Martial Empires, etc.

Nice try. I never said they were quality games, in fact they suck. That's not the point I was making. I simply stated they came out with the feature first. As my original argument states there is NOTHING new or innovative about FFXIV (except maybe charging for additional character slots). I am sure you will love it if you loved FFXI. All I am saying is it is too slow paced and brings nothing new to the table for me. I am not saying FFXIV will suck, is a terrible game, or anything like that. I am simply stating the reasons I will not play.

I never said they needed to do something groundbreaking to catch my interest. I just stated they are not doing anything new or innovative. Of course no one is going to just come up with some MMO that bears no resemblence to anything I've ever played before. That's not what I'm looking for. However, take a look at GW2 for example. The Dynamic Events system, while similar in some respects to the Public Quest System in WAR, is an actual attempt at implementing something NEW. This is a STEP closer to allowing players to actually impact the game world. They are not reinventing the wheel, which would be stupid to do, but they are attempting to innovate, not shell out GW1 with updated graphics and some minor tweaks. Arenanet, IMO, is actually moving forward while SE is doing the equivalent of standing still. We can argue back and forth all day, but I am entitled to my opinion about the game and you are entitled to yours. I have stated the reasons I will not be playing. Feel free to disagree. I am sure you will love the game. It's not for me.

Yeah, pretty much this. I loved the format of the old FFXI and will enjoy the changes with the new flavor. I have no idea where the greed of the Asian comes from. That is unneeded, greed is everywhere, no race or gender has a foot hold on it.
