The article outlines some game design themes to try to move away from the "blockbuster" model of game design. ( I,e, trying to launch with a huge number of subscriptions and provide enough linear content to keep that huge number of people occupied) It gives EVE and A Tale in the Desert as examples of game that started smaller and have gradually built up from a core. Someone on the Mortal Online forums posted a link to the article and Henrik Nystrom responded that basically that is what they were trying to achieve with Mortal Online. The core principles of the "Icelandic Model of MMO design":

1) Sandbox-Based Endgame.

2) Unique, Engaging Environment.

3) Reinvestment and Organic Growth.

4) Features Over Linear Content."

I read this about a week ago I think. Author is The Mittani btw (EVE players should recognize that name). I agree with the article but especially the part about reinvesting profits back into the game; the two free yearly expansions CCP releases have helped EVE grow into the game it is today.
