New To AOC - Having An Issue With The Launcher

CecropiaCecropia Member RarePosts: 3,985

I'm using Vista 32 and I've run into a rather annoying snag.

I had a hell of a time getting the patcher to work, fortunately I found an old forum thread that gave me a solution. My problem now is that after quitting the game and attempting to restart I literally cannot find the launcher. I've had similar problems with Vista before, but I have always found a way around it. I can see AOC in Programs and Features (for uninstalling programs) in the Control Panel, but I can't find any sort of launcher or file that can get the game going. Closest I can get is to setup the whole game again after uninstalling.

I did find a forum thread with someone who had this issue, but the only 2 replies were from people who had the same problem. Where is that damn launcher, lol? This is such a silly thing to hold me back, any help would be appreciated.

Please help this Vista challenged MMORPGer.

Thanks.

Just create a shortcut to it from the AoC folder onto your desktop. Then you won't have any problems finding it again.

2nd easiest thing to do with any game with Vista is to NEVER install games to the /program files folder, put the game in it's own folder by itself.

1st easiest thing to do is trash that junk and get Windows 7.

LOL. Thanks for the help guys.

Windows 7 is definitely starting to look more appealing. Vista hasn't given me too many problems, but crap like this is utterly ridiculous.

I have as fond memories of Vista as I have of ME. 7 is more like xp or 98 in that respect :)

?? You can't find the folder to where the game has been installed via Window Explorer, and then copy the executable as a shortcut to desktop?

I vaguely recall having to do that for 2 games under Vista (can't remember if AoC was 2 of them)

Or maybe I'm interpreting the problem wrongly.

PS: and yeah, Vista resembles ME, but hey, switching to Windows 7 for 300 bucks is not cheap.

click start then you should see a "games" tab right above the "computer" button. i think its like that on vista or is it win7? i know one of tyhem i had a real problem finding the one folder for EQ2 to use the mod for it, the actual folder was hidden for some reason.

Just wanted to clarify, windows 7 upgrade costs 120$ right now(well, thats how much it was a couple months ago when i upgraded from vista).  Not cheap but, a far cry from 300$ too.

I meant for Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade. I could only find the 299 euro option :-/

Total of say $197.00 USD would be roughly $162.00 EURO

Or you could cheat and buy the OEM full version even cheaper:

I highly recommend win7, man. Just the amount of memory it frees up over vista alone is worth it, IMO.

Win7 is to Vista what XP was to ME.

    I have WIn7 64bit Pro, and it's SOOOOOOO nice.

Edit: also, man....once you (finally) manage to get your game installed, patched, etc....I suggest trying this:

    http://aoc.curse.com/downloads/aoc-addons/details/aoc-quick-start.aspx

This is the AoC "Quick Start" addon. It skips the patcher, the movies, etc and gets you right into the game. Then just launch with the actual Age Of Conan executable instead of the launcher.

On patch days, just run the launcher once to get yourself patched up.

That site (Curse) also has some REALLY nice UI mods for AoC. I use Corruption myself, but I may soon change to something that makes it easier to bind keys to the extended hotbars.

    Have fun!

Am I the only person that had zero problems with Windows ME?

I didn't have any problems per se, but it was not user friendly, had lots of vulnerabilities, resource demanding, and generally a step down from from 98.
