World of Warcraft but it took me a couple years to figure out that it was a pile of crap lol
I only loved it because it was like Playing WC3x in MMO Mode
I was like oooo it's Kalimdor Wow look a Goblin Airship! wheee
But after BC It was more like This is Outland?? this sucks. Hey Wait this isn't the same story! this sucks. Alliance gets Draenai??? wth? Oh I see change the story around...Yeah this is what you get for getting rid of your main story guys.
After that I promptly left WoW and all it's stupidity and from what I understand it's only gotten worse and going to get twice as bad when Cataclysm hits
Underlight!! Pre-EQ. Was a REAL Role Playing game.. RPing was mandatory and monitored by the GMs.
Loved it and then a whole group of us went off to EQ together (from the first EQ beta).
No game I have played since (and I have played most of them) has come close to the indepth role playing of Underlight.
Talking of costs (well someone was) wasn't Meridian 59 really really expensive.. seem to remember that was why I didnt get into that one??
Heh, I didn't think anyone remembered Underlight. I played that game off and on for a while. Unfortunately while most of the people were friendly enough they were too 'clanish' to allow new players to rollplay with them. This lead to my founding of a clan of 'dark dreamers' who worshiped the nightmares and fought to protect them. ((Though this made training up skills difficult as you might imagine as we weren't well liked.))
Runescape before it had any paid content > EQ2 i regret never trying 1 > L2 was great for a while grind was intense> WoW up until about last year it got...yea > RF Online was a geat idea didnt play out to well imo >Aion just isn't meeting what L2 was.
Ragnarok in between the changes.
Runescape was first but i really didn't love it.
Out of all of them L2 was fun because of the open pvp drama. EQ2 was fun to group and quest. Ragnarok needs to be remade exactly as it is with new age graphics (not ragnarok 2, it so doen't count) and it will kill all the rest.
Look at all that fantasy, I'm dying for a good steampunk / sci-fi mmorpg.
the first I played was eq1 , the first I enjoyed was SHADOWBANE, great suspense, easy grouping, unusual powers, cities being attacked constantly comeing down and building up, unfortunately it had to much lag and ctd but was great fun never the less
EQ the original, but I only play it for a month or so before SWG came out, so I'll claim SWG was my first MMORPG. I would still be playing it today had it not been for CU and NGE.
Thank you to my lil brother that insisted I download the game and play his second account for free! I got hooked on MMO's and haven't watched TV at night since=)
My first MMO was Earth and Beyond, and god, I loved it. Losing it was tough. Nostalgia hit hard for a while there. Luckily it's once again running in one form or another.
Everquest 2 eventually filled most of the gap left by EnB, and it eventually became "that game I always go back to," for me.
Everquest in 2000, right after Kunark went live, about ten years ago. It was so big, and alive, and so many people were playing. There was no auction house, so everyone just gathered in the tunnel and shouted out what they had for sale. I had a baby DESK, a Dark Elf Shadow Knight, an Nek Forest seemed so scary and big.
Nothing will ever be like the old days, for better and for worse.
My first MMO was Lineage 2 in a private server, after some months I moved to the Official ones, I played on Teon for some time, its was good until I got bored of bots everywhere, then I realized my money was worth more than that becouse NCSoft was doing nothing against them and moved to EQ2.
Player housing, in game events, evolving storyline, alignment system all in 1996.
When UO and EQ came out I was so excited by the different scope and variety of these great games and thought that each new release would be an amazing evolution of the last in the same fashion. I was wrong
Asheron's Call 2 - love that game. played a Lugian berzerker that wtfpwns everything before we got hit by the nerf bat. miss those pvp forts in Frostfell owning the orders while we protect our island as part of Dominion. quit .. before the game was shut down. was fun while it lasted :-)

Meridian 59, server 105. Somedays I still miss it. Played until the day EQ1 was released.

M59 cost $9.99 a month. EQ started out at $12.99 at release then to $15 a year later I believe.
I thought WoW was the first and only MMO...
myth war beta or silkroad beta, can't remember which one came first...
My first mmo was a Korean f2p called Kalonline. Yes, I know, I know, but actually I loved it at the time (well, it was my first).

Lineage 2.
Would still be avidly playing it if it wasn't for the harsh economy.

The Myth of Soma: the first, and best that i have played.
Lineage 2. I still play it occasionally, I just hate the fact that you have to buy gold to be even somewhat competetive.
Ragnarok Online back when they only had the first set of classes those we're good times

First one I actually played? Astonia.
First one I played longer than a few weeks? WoW.

EQ started out at $9.89 and the original Studio was 989.
My first MMO was AOL's Neverwinter Nights, back when you had to pay by the hour.

Mine was M59 too. Man I thought that game was awesomely high tech when it came out.
