The one thing that was fun about the game. First the science ships got hit and now escorts are going down plus they are putting powers on a global cooldown so you can only use one every so often.

Look at some of the feedback from players testing it out:
We did an eight person premade to test out the new stuff. Combat feels *completely* different -- and downright boring. Combat is now lethargic and drawn out, consisting of people endlessly shooting at but not killing each other. Absolutely everyone who tried it, no matter what class and load-out they used, despised it. The fallout in the Tribble forums is starting even now.
Escorts now are really BAD in solo PvE! I couldn't get past the target's shields on the first past. And my shields were dropping like it was a Mark 1, so I had to constantly retreate, repair, and reattack. It was very frustrating.
What? it is? Im a Support Build how can I support anyone if using even 1 of my skills puts ALL of them on cooldown??????!
When will the madness stop?

Looks like maybe they're trying to figure out how to slow down levelling so that people don't hit the end so quick. If so, and they release this to live, it's a little too late and it will alienate even more players.

Space combat is the only mildly entertaining aspect of STO for me. I'd be annoyed they are nerfing the only fun in the game if I payed still.
I'm sure Cryptic has some balancing motive behind it, or slowing down progression, whatever.
This studio does tend to release content deficient games with fast leveling. They then proceed to nerf in order to slow progression as opposed to adding content to make players want to enjoy their progress, it's much cheaper.
Seems nerfing is the last thing they should be spending resources on, but I never understood their priorities.
PS: Dinendae will you get an avatar for cripes sake?!
More evidence that cryptic doesnt know what they are doing. They seriously have no clue how to design and maintain an mmo do they? They are about to break the only worthwhile part of sto.
That thread is tame compared to the threads for the nerfs to DPS and cooldown/recharge timers. These threads are tucked away down at the lower end of the forums where regular forum goers forget to venture.
DPS nerf: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=157666
Cooldown/recharge nerf: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=157669
When I quit STO at the start of April 2010, the nerfs to science skills were inbound and pretty much killed what remained of any slight interest I still had to play. My science character got abandoned and then I played forums for a while for entertainment.
These latest changes will make space combat utterly boring and kill interest in PvP.
Ah well, roll on May 28th want to see those Atari reports.
Balancing has never really been cryptic's strong point. Remember at the beginning of CO when fast levelling was a problem and they nerfed the heck out of just about every useful power and buffed the mobs. Some builds had trouble killing henchmen without dying. I guess we're seeing cryptics attempt at balancing with STO. What will this do to STFs? Make them 6 hours long?
Better?

If it goes live the way it is, more than likely the time to complete STFs will be at least that. As for CO, I didn't get the game once it went live; I saw how it was going to be in beta and decided against purchasing it. I was hoping it was just a (bad) fluke, but spparently not.

i just dont get it.
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
Much..no avatar...people were talking...lot's of people.
People are actually playing this game?
Wow.
Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... ha.. ha..... ha....
I would be pretty pissed about this if I actually cared about the game anymore. Instead, im finding joy from cryptics blunders and acts of stupidity, where I would have otherwise found dissapointment.
So in other words, just you and your various personalities?

^ I have to say, man, the STO forums are, bar none, the best MMO to come out in the past few years. They are what actually got me into PVP.
Also re: Atari's May 28 financial reports - Wonder if they will have "GAME OVER" on the title page:)
RELAX!@!! BREATHE!!!
"New Game Experience"?
"If all you can say is... "It's awful, it's not innovative, it's ugly, it's blah.." Then you're an unimaginative and unpolished excuse for human life" -eburn
Hypothetically speaking...if I had a cash shop o my game n which I sold player respecs, I would completely trash and redefine the core game mechanics that are a main reason why many players use my product, so I could gain what, an extra 3-4 bucks in addition to their monithly sub.
I'd probablt screw around with that instead of adding actual content or fun gaming experience, because it would really get the theorycrafting wonks off. Besides, I would have a patch of content in the pips for several months down the road too.
But that's only me.
RELAX!@!! BREATHE!!!
It shows amazing restraint on their part that they've waited this long. Champions Online got hit as it exited the starting gate. Maybe they've learned something...
...or maybe just completely clueless.

This is an excellent point. Especially given that so many of the players left in the game are lifers who aren't paying a monthly fee. Fleece the fanboys for cash shop respecs every month or two -- it's the only income stream they have left.
This pile-o-crap game gets so much attention for sucking it makes me giggle.
A man or "gamer" should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.
HAHA they're about to break the last (and only) good thing abotu that game. Now their failure is complete.
Until this idea gets canned, I'm going to have to go with the second option.

They are still continuing to rearrange the deck furniture on the Titanic. Not much else to say.
Looks Like Champions Online war on fun has bled over to the final fronteer.
This sword here at my side dont act the way it should
Keeps calling me its master, but I feel like its slave
Hauling me faster and faster to an early, early grave
And it howls! it howls like hell!
Game is hemaraging players already, what's Cryptic solution, give players a knife so they can die quickly ?
I'm liking Cryptic's work so far with the balance changes.
But only because it's upsetting the people who uptil now believed in Cryptic. I always imagined Cryptic would have to come up with something spectacular to penetrate through the density of perception that somehow prevented them from seeing that STO was a terrible game and blaming Cryptic for it being that way.
The funny thing about these "balance" changes is that they didn't even remotely address fundamentally overpowered alpha strike combinations like target sub-system shields followed by torpedo high yield with beam overload. Despite lowering DPS, those still seem pretty effective single volley gank attack tactics.

Video of PvP with the changes, Benny Hill music says it all really.
Ships are going to become more tanky and harder to kill and PvP matches become a snooze fest.
I bought a sub for this a month ago. Hit the endgame. Cancelled sub today. Dissapointing game, never again.
Now I'm faced with going back to Eve or waiting for something else. Time will tell for me, but I can say without hesitation that this is the first time in 11 years of MMO play experience that I've been so quickly put off a game.
Performance issues and lack of meaningingful game play are my primary reasons for leaving after just a few short weeks of play. The Beta looked promising. I waited a bit and the game fell far short for me just as much as it did for so many other people.
I've sucked it up and moved on as of this afternoon. A month of my life that I'll never get back. The sad thing for me is that I was following Perpetuals development of this game a few years back. I really can't express how disspointed I am with Cryptics attempt at a potential "game winner".
It would almost be fair enough to say that they (Cryptic) have soiled the brand beyond repair in terms of MMO genres go. Who now will ever attempt such a monumental feat? I dare say, no Developer will after this.
STO, in my personal opinion, can be compared to the series falure of Berman and Co. with Enterprise. As much as Battlestar Galactaica changed my expectations for Sci Fi, Eve Online changed my expectations for PVP. Cryptic fell short.
