So I was bored and decided to give Champions Online a go and to my amazement I had a great time playing. I don't care if the world is zoned or that it is a theme park. All I was concerned with is making a unique champion and having a good time. Perhaps in 6 months I'll be bored or maybe not but for right now I think people should give it another go. The combat was very fluent and the crafting was pretty easy to do. Overall not a bad first day back.

    "Fluent" combat? Interesting!

I enjoyed the combat too. It's a fun game for a brief period of time. I had a blast making flipped looking heroes with my friends. It's definitely the best part of the game.

One thing that drives me nuts is the graphics engine. Myself, along with the 10 people I played with, all had similar problems. If you hit the keys to remove the UI you get a 30-100 percent FPS boost. The graphics engine also makes my graphics card run 10 - 12 degrees hotter than any recent MMO on the market, as well as any game I have ever played...even if my fan was at 100 percent. It's retarded. We tried every tweak under the sun from driver updates to their corny recommendations in the official forums.

I agree though, people should give it a shot. Get it online for a few bucks and use the included 30 days. I personally had my fill after 6 weeks but it's a good casual MMO to play for a little bit .

I tried the open beta and although I had fun designing my toon in the end I hated how the world was created. I liked starting out in the city like CoH/V.

I hated the desert starting zone and how it was layed out (not the tutorial area). It made no sense, and just wasnt fun. There was too many mobs everywhere and just didnt feel right.

Yes, the abilities were great but poor game play and world design just couldnt win me over.

Tried the demo last night as a matter of fact. It is the worst introduction to any game Ive ever played. You can level but you cant get any new abilities till you leave the starting area, and you cant leave the starting area till you subscribe.

I want to like the game but I cant. That being said I'd subscribe just to create different toon and use all the different abilities. But I wont do it for 14.99, may have done it for $9.99.

In my opinion its not deserving of a $15 a month sub.

Well if you hate the tutorial area and atleast want to try it out beyond that just let me know if you want a referall key. 10 days unlimited access to the game. I do agree the tutorial could be better mainly with the training of powers.

Go to this forum thread and get a referral key to get a much better look at the game.  :-)

I agree the demo is way too short and doesn't show you much, but with the referral you can see more of the game.

I felt the exact same way based on my experiences with the game at launch, but a month ago a friend told me about how now they have a deal that is $30 / 3-month, and you can keep it going like that forever once you sign up.   In my case I knew the game would be worth it to me at that price for at least three months, and if anything I am more satisfied than I expected.

That's cool, first impressions do matter a lot .  But maybe if you check out the game more, you'll see you do spend a lot of time in the city, and now it has two city zones (Vibora Bay being the new one, which is very different, its based on New Orleans).

I made a gadgeteer and started trying out some ice powers on another guy too. I love the character creator, I could spend a whole hour just customizing my champion lol. Good stuff.

Well at $30 for 3 months I may just have to give it a try.

Similar, likely by no coincidence, to STO.  I think you can set a max fps which helps a bit, but you have to remember to set it each time you log in.  I think it's "/max fps 60" or something like that.

Did my first group quest today, Ferd Tough ands it was fun then we did the ending quest in the dessert. Four people, lots of action and we even had a hero with celestial powers so heals were there too. Think I been having more fun in Champions than I have been in months trying to find a decent mmo. I'll have to take a screen of my champion as well.

Everyone enjoys a 'new car smell'.  But when it comes to completeness of game-play, breadth & depth, lasting nutrition, the vast majority of the market has voted CO a mediocer endeavor, not worth a lasting subscription.

Champions Online is the most inherently fun MMO in the biz.  A lot of people say the combat is overly simplistic, but I've found thats only the case if you choose to build your character in a way that promotes that.

Unfortunately its just lacking on content and scope at endgame.  It's getting better though, and  In a couple years when they really flesh out the content it will be an outstanding game.

People used to say that about Guild Wars because compared to other mmos it lacked alot of content but I still play Guild Wars after 4.5 years.

The game has come around quite a bit since launch. Especially within the past couple months. CO is an excellent game if you do not look at it from a typical MMO perspective. The gameplay is fast, engaging, and just overall fun. I have not had this much fun in an MMO for awhile.

Just to show you my perspective, I typically enjoy games that are heavily group oriented or even forced grouping, class based, and long leveling. This is in direct contrast of what CO is, but I did not look at CO as the same type of MMO as say EQ, or FFXI (both of which I love greatly). Rather I looked at CO for what it is and that is just a get in there, beat the shit out of tons of bad guys, and make friends occasionally on the way. Oh and look awesome while you do it!
