A couple of days ago HiRez released some new information on the Sandstorm patch.
It's going to be released in four "phases". The first phase should be on the test server in the near future.

I give full marks to HI REZ, they won't charge a subscription until they think they have enough content to justify it. It makes a change from being bent over the prison table at game launch and told to bite down on a leather strap and wait until life improves soon(tm).
I'm waiting in anticipation for my flame turret, am getting my Robo to lvl 50 before the first phase hits
