I find this game to be a particular style that many players would like, if their expectations were clear when they joined.
First off, I DON'T feel surrounded by the gaming experience when I play the game. This can be bad if you are looking for a game like LotRO, where it was a marketed facet to the game. However, this smaller world provides faster access to the content on the players terms.
Second, there is not a great deal of epic end game raids or missions. Again, people could be pretty bummed out by the finish of this game if they are expecting a traditional MMO experience, but I think the game is designed to open up to a more opened layout at endgame. There are a few raids, pvp, random world events and missions (like bank robberies). It almost encourages RP and I don't want to say sandbox, but that's the general feel.
Lastly, the world is far from seemless, and you wonder why some zones exist. There is very limited exploration, and with skills like teleport, there is almost no point in looking for the obscure places of the world (and there aren't many), but there again, I feel as though this is the "choose your adventure" style of experience. Perhaps I would be a vampire slayer, or a GI Joe character... or whatever the lemuria scene is all about.
This game has some good things going for it, and with just MORE, it will get better. Too many mmo's are lacking a direction or need DIFFERENT angles to please the fanbase, but this title just needs more.

The ONLY way this game would fly, is with a console port. The majority of PC MMO players (this game hasn't been advertised much so MMO gamers would be more apt to play it) expect much more than CO has to offer. The item store system, the cheap 5- 8 button combat (if you're lucky) and the instanced system makes this game perfect for a console release where players are more apt to buy things like DLC and aesthetic items.
Without the console release, this game isn't worth much, it doesn't have depth, the keyboard controls aren't nearly as fun or intuitive as if you use the 360 control, and the content only lasts a month or less depending on how long you play. If you could play on a console, with your XBL buddies, it would give it a more casual feel and enjoyable feel and improve the longevity of the playerbase as there aren't many games like that on consoles currently.
The flip-side to this is that the entire gameworld is instanced. There's only ever, what, 20 players per instance of a zone?
15-25 is the cap for Tutorial forget which, 50 for first Crisis, and something like 100-150 for normal zones. Although it will start splitting normal instances around 50ish and up it seems.
