How'd the rating go down so fast?

KamikazegoKamikazego Member UncommonPosts: 224

FFXIV has been up at the very top (with the exception of second place a few times) as the highest hyped game lately at like 8.38 hype rating. But all of a sudden I log on today and I see it jumped down quickly lol.  I wonder if some person has a personal vendetta against Final Fantasy and is creating multiple accounts or something and rating 0? Haha.  Even one account giving the game a "0" hype rating, doesn't even make the hype go down one one-hundredth!  Maybe it's someone who is working on GW2 that is bumping all the other games down and bumping their own game up? :P

You are somewhat paranoid. Both GW2 and TOR just released a lot of cool info and movies and that is the reason.

GW2 have been very quite for a long time and suddenly released a lot of stuff, that is the reason it went to first place.

These games will jump up and down depending on who released the latest movies and so on. World of darkness online will probably make a huge leap up there also when they actually release a movie from it.

That is just how things work with games in development, and it is too early anyways for any silly hate campaign. It will most likely come but not in a long while.

Because they are waiting until christmas time to launch even though they stated that most of the content is already there.

I think its due to the videos released of the game. And the info surrounding it.

Guild Wars 2 happened but no worries, FFXIV will still be a fine game which I can't wait to play too.

IMO its best that a game fly under the radar, and speak for itself when its released, but its a little late for that.  Like someone mentioned above soon as a game releases some good info it spikes in the hype chart. Give it a some time and ffxiv and SW:TOR will be swapping 1 and 2 again.

Based on what I've seen of the game, I don't think it looks that great to be honest...

I am much more excited about SW:TOR and GW2. It looks like the majority agree with me on that.

  • HyanmenHyanmen Member UncommonPosts: 5,357

Indeed, the less hype it generates the better.

I'm pretty sure the FFXI stigma is a good thing for this game. People expect one kind of gameplay, but once it comes out people will realize that hey, this might actually be different (and good), without having unrealistic expectations beforehand.

Of course they'll still pick apart the control scheme no add-ons and customer service, but if the most important thing is there (the game is fun and enjoyable), then those kind of things are just minor annoyances.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

The hype still appears as 8.34 to me... so not sure what OP is talking about.

How can you back that statement up lol? Because Final Fantasy 14 is 3rd on the hype list for the first time in weeks? That's funny.

It's better that way. Hype virtually kills a game after its release :)

The more a game is hyped up the less people it will satisfy, thus the less players it retains after the free month. No game ever lives up to huge hype.

FFXIV fans should rejoice that GW2 and TOR are its competitors, especially TOR. That game's hype is UNREAL! xD

I think it is because of all the new Guild Wars 2 info that has been released lately. This is something that we should want though, is the game flying under the radar to avoid a lot of possible trolls.

I'm not saying it looks BAD and I'm sure I'll play it...

I'm just saying that its not #1 on my hype list. For me its SW:TOR > GW2 > FFXIV > All the rest.

You're right that I can't speak for the majority based on the fact that its in 3rd only today. Obviously I can't speak for the majority, but I will say the current rating is more in line with my personal hype scale. image

I don't know what everyone saw in Guild Wars.  I couldn't stand playing that game longer than 30 minutes.  After playing all the good mmorpg's I've played, I just assumed it had to be because it was a free game (no monthly fee.)  I spent money to buy GW just to see what everyone was talking about and I guess that left a sour taste in my mouth since I was displeased.

I'm also glad FFXIV is hanging just a bit under the radar (not really though.)  FFXI was such a great experience when I first jumped in and started playing.... was like a dream come true and I didn't even know it launched until it was out already.

This is wheir you are not looking closely at what's going on,we are talking about GW2 not GW1. GW2 is not going to be the same as GW1,it's a full mmorpg like WOW or LOTRO,it's open.

As for GW1 ,well they sold 6 million copies so obviously not everyone shares your views.

As it stands now GW2 is looking more appealing than SWTOR and FFXIV.

Really! so if SWTOR and GW2 wont release info at E3, lol wishful thinking on your part. Let's face it not all mmorpg are for everyone,it's the way of the world.

FFXIV is about where it was on the hype list before all the alpha information started happening, after the alpha stuff was leaked and all the information flooding started the game got to the top. Now that things are settling down a bit more and the other games are starting to release the info, it is only natural that they would take the spot.

I predict that this trend will continue with these three games until they are released. (:

There's definitely something wrong in the way this site calculates *hype* : for one, it seems like every time a new game enters it shoots up the list, without taking into account the actual number of people voting for the game.

A game that has 10 people each rating it 10/10 is not more *hyped* than a game with 2000 votes of different scores.

Just taking the average is not a good way to calculate this...

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

The rating failed for me as soon as they called it "hype".  To me that has always stood for bullshit.

I bought a copy too, that's how I found out it was ass.
