I know very little about COH or COV all I know is that it has been around for awhile and that it dose seem ever as popular today as it was when it first came out?? More so or less?? I guess that dont matter. What I am interested in is COH and or COV do these MMORPG have a upbeat and sociable community? I dont want to play any MMORPG that has a negative community.

Thanks.

I've been playing since launch.   I think it has a great community.  For example, there is a supergroup (read: guild) that gives free tours to various landmarks in the zones.  They do this by teleporting people from spot to spot, each of which earns you a badge.   They give you a very brief history (one or two sentences) on the significance of the spot, then another person ports you to the next.   They do this at no charge, and it's completely player-run.

Another example is the mentoring program, where vets like myself join a special channel dedicated to helping new players with questions on every aspect of the game.    Again, this is player-created and player-run for no charge.

That's not even to mention the frequent costume contests players run where they give away millions in influence/infamy (the game's money) to the best costumes.

If you decide to join and have any questions, you can find me in-game at my global name of @GammaWave.

City Of Heroes and City of Villains (one game, often referred to as CoX or just CoH) has possibly the friendliest community you will ever come across in gaming.  Perhaps it is just the hero mentality or the fact that because the game encourages rolling alts that you see even the most experienced of players playing across the entire level spectrum.  If you identify yourself as a new player (and sometimes the vets look at your badges to determine this too), people will offer plenty of advice and at times offer to play along with you for a while until you get the hang of things.

CoX is also the most Pick-Up Group (PUG) friendly game around.  The teaming window presently identifies everyone looking for a group but typically just shouting in a zone can get a number of invites.  Some missions/task forces are more popular and thus get a better reesponse.  Furthermore, because of the sidekicking system, unique to CoX, players of any level can play together.  That is, if you're level 40 and your friend with a level 15 wants to play, then joining a team together to run missions will either scale down his power (for your missions) or scale your powers up (for his missions.)  It's a flexible system that really encourages community.

Finally, if you browse the boards, you can get an idea of how nice, and committed, the community is.  Of course there will be the occasional troll but as a whole, people there are quick to welcome someone new to the boards (identified by join date and number of posts) as well as offer both in-game and technical advice.  It's also a great spot to show off costumes or get advice for a makeover, discuss mission and base design, as well as post CoX inspired art -- this can be stories, pictures or movies/machinima (the latter of which has some impressive producers).

Anyway, give it a go with a trial and see for yourself or pick up a copy of the game for 20 dollars (less if you find one of the old retail boxes).  A word about the trials though--to help prevent goldsellers from spamming, trial accounts have numerous restrictions including not being allowed to use the broadcast channel, send tells or party invites among other things but the game is otherwise fully functional.  Converting to a paying account will remove those restrictions.

    Hope that helps! ( ' :

Agreed with the other two posters, CoH has one of the best communities around.

And you'll be happy to discover Isturi that there are no "I quit" posts anywhere to be found on the forums. :p

The server i play on mostly, Virtue, peaks at 740 during the 6 year anniversary event last night and usually is at around 600 odd during weekend peak times. That's no where near the amount of people that used to be logged on at one time when the game was a bit more popular but thatnks to the new changes to Sidekicking you'll rarely if ever lack for people to team with or just do things in general with. That in itself is a major feat in my eyes, most games you struggle to get teams when they have multiple thousands of people online at once :p

I played CoH for long time and it has a great community which is pretty friendly and helpful. Even the villains are nice.

I disagree with Rockgod99 about being the only decent super hero game (I like CO and its community is not bad either, but let's not go further to stay in topic)

I played on Victory, the Legion of Valor is a nice SG/VG there, pretty helpful and fun people to play with. In virtue there are many RP groups but I have never been able to RP much so I didn't join any of those groups.
