Games choosing to make more money over quality

Many of us have noticed over the past several years, the growing trend of big name companies, choosing to throw quality of their product out the door, in attempts to pocket some extra cash. This has lead to constant unresolved issues, poor customer service, and the basic run-around tactic that was made popular by insurance companies in the past. These major companies, believe we as gamers are weak minded and will simply sit back and let them take advantage of us.

Go back 10years. Companies strived to create great games, with great quality. They believed a lack of quality would result in lack of popularity, which in most cases is true... However over time, greed has lead them to believed that going for the quick buck, is more profitable then adding that sense of quality and re-assurance gamers, trust. While there are still a number of reputable developers and publishers, some names that use to stand for quality have turned to the dark side of profits.

I believe if not now, soon, the gaming community needs to make a stand. Let these money hungry scrubs, who are the architects of what is now being called "the entitlement era" realize they have sorely underestimated us, and we will not tolerate another game that starts great and is abandoned, so some high level exec can install a new hot tub on his yacht. We need to start actually taking action, instead of constantly talking about it, or arguing with each other if it will even do any good.

Boycott companies you believe are cutting out on quality of service or product, and if you have a legitimate grievance, by all means attempt to contact people higher up in the chain of command then the customer service rep you speak too. If you continue to get ignored, contact a lawyer or the appropriate legislation (state senators, better business bureau, attorney generals, ext..) that could help you.

Get the word out.... Hollywood likes to say bad publicity is good publicity, but when the quality of something is the topic, bad is always bad. So tell others about what’s going on. Don’t just post your aggravations on the game or publishers forums, actually go to sites that sell the product, rate it, and share your story. If people hear that a product is crap, they usually tend to stay away from it. The only way you can make a company that is ruled by greed, listen to your argument, is by screwing with their income.

And finally remember “Sometimes you have to risk what your passionate about, to ensure its survival.”
