Interestingly Star Trek online was one of the highest searched topics online yesterday according to Yahoo, lol. Whether it's to bash or praise, it is a very hot topic right now.
It's also interesting that it is the number one selling game on Amazon right now.
Have you played the game yet, Kt?
Will you write a review? I would be very interested to read it.
As soon as I get the game in my mailbox I will. All I did with this thread was post what was released for debate.I'm not taking any sides here.

Oh, you are adorable.
I look forward to reading it.

It is just sad a company has to resort to manipulating information to create hype. "accounts created on a website...". What's next? The number of hits an MMORPG website gets? As for those wanting to use Xfire as a reliable source: "Heroes of Newerth, Aion, Silkroad on Line , League of Legends"...are all in the ... top 10 of Xfire games being played.... They all 4 have on common source: made in Asia. LOL!!! Wrong. If someone believes that those games are closely being played on the same level as Counterstrike, Battlefield 2 or Dragonblight and Mass Effect 2 ... Keep on dreaming. Anyone even heard of Heroes of Newerth or Silkroad on Line or Cabal On Line? I played ST for 5 days in the open beta and sadly cancelled my pre order. I guess I am counted in the 1 M created accounts. Lots of lessons to be learned here: for one: an mmorpg has to have open ended seamless parts free to explore.
Heroes of Newerth is a DotA-like game currently in CLOSED Beta made by S2Games which is in Northern California. Maybe thats why you haven't heard of it?
League of Legends is a free2play DotA-like game. An original DotA developer as well as some Blizzard developers work for Riot Games. Both are made in the USA.
Please dont continue to make yourself sound dumb by not knowing what you are talking about.
Originally posted by jimsmith08 I have a forum account from the CO beta forums, and it worked for the STO beta forums too. Am I counted? All seems a little odd seeing as they have a universal login.
That's what I'm thinking, it's been done before *cough*SOE Station pass*cough*.

So... 1 million actual subscribers, or 1 million accounts that were carried over from beta? Hmmm?
Neither, its 1 million people registered to the webpage over how many years?...thats it. You can register and not ever touch the game or been in beta lol. So basically this in no way represents box sales or number of people playing but 1 million is a big number so they had to squeeze it in somewhere to make it look important

10.2.3 ...launches... having helped in early beta (but never got a response on a bug report and support tickets getting closed with no reply what so ever) well i have been monitoring the STO server status and for the last week it is never gone a single day without crashing all 4 (?game serves).
But this must not be the case since none are commenting on inability to play due to Cryptic being unable to keep the servers up. In fact some are actually posting they are playing in game; so is mmoserverstatus wrong, the STO game servers are UP or is it like they indicate, mostly the servers are down?
Or has Cryptic postponed the launch since "they ordered another server" "it's in the mail" to cover the unexpected extra load in launch??
I bought the game yesterday and wasnt initially impressed when the account server was down on opening day! LOL I played some yestesterday and thought the game was pretty good. Not exactly noob friendly but you figure stuff out in couple hours. Let see if ill sub after the 1st month.

Sounds like typical Developer spin that they all seem to do these days. Only things that matter: How many copies of the game are actually sold (not shipped) for cash. How many people pay for a sub past the first free month. How many people are subbed 3, 6 12 months down the road. Do more new players continually try the game to replace those who leave (like WOW and EVE experienced) What never matters, how many accounts have been created, how many copies have shipped, how many people have ever tried the game etc.
Most companies wont tell the truth as it would make them look bad. You would think somewhere down the line that companies will learn one important fact:: that the truth shall set you free! Their sub numbers of course will look good for the 1st 2 months and after that will drop like a sack of bricks from the empire state building! LOL

Forum account numbers don't mean anything, at all, for an MMO.
Actual reliable source for initial box sales is what would matter, and then after the first month or two some actual sub numbers. But we won't see those.
rofl "Cryptic they have already logged in over 1 million registered accounts at the official websites."
Thanks for the humor. Over the years, Cryptic has garnered over 1million registered users to their site, which in no shape or form, translates into 'x' amount of games purchased or game-play subscribers.
We've seen the same meaningless and overly optimistic announcements about other mmorpgs in 2008 and 2009 that turned into duds.
Keep the delusional faith, and may the force be with you . . . err, umm, i mean live long and prosper?
According to steam its #7(digital delux) and #9 in its top seller list as of this moment. Considering Bioshock2 and Mass effect 2 are #5 and #6 they may have fairly impressive box sale. Of course #2 is a $5 sale on Titan Quest gold so who knows.
1mil subs opening day beats out AoC which only launched a total of 750k boxes to retailers (which as I remember only like half sold opening day). It also beats out warhammer as well. In the sub department they are doing pretty good it appears.
Now I wonder if they can retain the 50% they need to have a large marketshare like LoTR and outside the Asian continent WoW.

It isn't 1 million subs though, it's 1 million website accounts. For example, I have a website account, but I'm not subscribed to the game.
thats great new for Cryptic it looks like STO is a big home run people must really like it..i've also been playing the game and like it to lets hope that STO just keeps getting bigger and better and some day it might become the WOW killer...

Firstly: Haha, one million my arse.
Secondly: Amazon? Who buys games from Amazon? It can be #1 on Amazon, I don't care.

I created 6 accounts on the STO website trying to get a closed beta invite. I'm guessing I'm 6 of the million registered accounts....
I never did get a beta invite.......

Isn't that low for a new release? {that's not a dig, I realy am not sure} Runes of Magic has 1,455.

From that 1 million users i guess :
1- 99% of them never read forums or reviews.
2- 30% of them are crazy Star Trek fan that would buy anything Star Trek anyway.
3- 50% of them are normal Star Trek fan that dont even know what a MMO is and tought they are buying a single player game.
4- 95% of them would not play past the free month or after they found out you need to pay for this monthy (see point 3).
I bought the game yesterday and wasnt initially impressed when the account server was down on opening day! LOL I played some yestesterday and thought the game was pretty good. Not exactly noob friendly but you figure stuff out in couple hours. Let see if ill sub after the 1st month.
