Need... open world... pvp..

JoeShmo2JoeShmo2 Member CommonPosts: 98

Why is it so hard to find a game with good open world pvp?  Is it not an MMORPG?  It seems to me that at least a decent amount of people in these Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games would have an urge to hack off some heads without having to queue for a battleground.

To the best of my knowledge, there are only 2 games out of all of these that have even decent open world pvp.

1. Darkfall - the one character per account thing absolutely turns me off to this game

2. EVE Online - too claustrophobic.  i cant just sit in my spaceship all day

Where is the humanity!?

Does anyone know of any other games still in existence that offer decent open world pvp or are we doomed?

Why does the single character per account set you off about Darkfall?  Trust me, you will not want to level another character.  Play how you want since you can do anything.  If you are good or bad, you can and will make a name for yourself.

Umm...what about Mortal? Dawntide? Fantasy Earth Zero? Luminary? =P

I suggest you try to get over the whole 1 character per account thing and play Darkfall. It is exactly what it sounds like you are looking for in every other way. Character progression is pretty much endless anyway, so its sort of a blessing that there is only one character.

Plus, you can always get a second sub if you absolutely need another guy...

     "Need...open world...pvp.."

Nurse! Get 10cc's of Darkfall into this man's bloodstream, stat, he's about to go into shock! When is the Mortal Online open beta starting? Someone check my download of Face of Mankind! Should we give him the 2d or 3d client for Ultima Online?

One major reason for 1 char/account is to avoid people having the "Alter Ego" character.  This way, if you want to go out and play a douche bag, then you are a douche bag.  You can't do it and then easily go hide in your Carebear Character and secretly support your other.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

    You could try Lineage 2.

It's not too late to start a character in it.

    Regarding 1 char per account

My take on it is, "I don't like non-exclusive roles, but if it exists then a 1-char limitation makes sense."  Especially in the context of the myriad ways alts in DF would be problematic for gameplay.

Non-exclusive advancement is fine.  Like FFXI's system of having one character who can learn every job and level them to max.

But the reason that works for FFXI is you can only use 1-2 of them at a time (not 100% familiar with it; you get a job and a sub-job right?)

Whereas in Darkfall, you can use everything at once with a (very) soft limitation of armor choice (light:caster, med:archer, heavy:melee.)  This choice doesn't even prevent you from using your spells in heavy armor, it merely makes them much less effective.

    Asherons Call

It's like a 1st/2nd generation MMO that offers a fully open world with full PvP on the Darktide server.

The combat is twitch/skill based and not level-based (arrows/spells are all fully dodge-able) and there's looting of enemies you kill.  It's not particularly safe/friendly to noobs because there's really no boundaries/restrictions but you should check it out.  This month they just added in some new mechanics to make it much easier for newer players to level up.

Check out this video to get an idea of the mechanics:

Why? Your character can train all things so what's wrong with that? Personally, I'd rather have one character than ten that specialize in different skills.

One character. One favorite name. All skills available. That equals win in my book.

How about Warhammer? Is WAR not open world enough for you? It depends on your tastes

Darkfall's open-world PvP beats any other open-world PvP on the market right now in my opinion. Having one character per account should NOT deter you from this game.

Trust me, you're not going to want to skill up more than one character, and it's great to actually have accountability with how your character acts in game instead of having a "PK" alt, a "friendly" alt, and a "espionage, political figurehead" alt.
