as long as 'Re: Your Brains' is in there somewhere I'm fine with a L4D MMO haha
A zombie MMO is a one-note song. Now, a horror MMO with all sorts of monster threats that perhaps come and go at different times (i.e, last month it's zombies, this month the werewolves are coming out of the forest) might be workable and pretty cool.
If the folks on EVE are truly working on a White Wolf MMO, then we may get something along the lines of a horror game.

I agree, World of Darkness is one I'm keeping an eye on. Its one genre that hasn't really been exploited in main-stream MMO's yet.

I guess that would be the problem for me. In the above you illustrate the werewolves as a monster threat when in the World of Darkness setting they are on of the players choices. The players are the monsters in White Wolf's World of Darkness setting. It's their struggle with once being human and now their "unnatural" forms that makes up alot of the lore/content. Sure, their are Mages walking around and humans do play certain roles.
I don't want this game to be a survival horror game, for sure. I also don't want it to force or provide considerable enticing for players to be Human characters. I'd like to at the basic level see three well developed "races" (Vampire, Werewolf, Mortal(Mage) each with their own clans/factions struggling against each other and coming together when needed to fight off the other two "races".
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

In White Wolf, you could also play "Hunters" (i.e., humans), as I recall. So maybe it could be a faction thing with some PVP.
Should be interesting, especially if it's EVE's crew working on it.
I took an interest in this game when i first heard it was Mr.Schilling.For once a gamer and not just a developer looking to make a buck. I think what will make or break this game is Schilling's input and thought process. If he is nothing more than a financial backer because he always had a vision, then the game is doomed. If he got involved in this game because he truly wants to put his mark on a creative game, then it may have a ton of potential. There is a good reason why SOE hired that guy from Sigil who came up with the Diplomacy idea in Vanguard,it is because creativity amongst developers is at an incredible low.We have the most subbed MMPRPG game on the planet and it has some of the least creative ideas on the planet,it really is a wonder why people are playing it. The Copernicus game carries two key figures that could very well make or break the game. The one guy w/o mentioning his name ,seems to be in charge,he is the Schilling estate handler,he makes their decisions basically for them.He seems to be making the decisions on what he feels is fun and what makes it into the game. The next guy i figure is sort of the lead guy is a former Everquest guy,so i feel this game may very well have an Everquest feel to it. I get the feeling the guy in charge,is not going to be very creative, just by the way he decides what players find fun or not, this tells me it is going to be a clone/copy of already used ideas. As soon as i hear something like that i feel,he is going to be another guy that says look at WOW, they have the most subs because players find that fun. This could mean nothing more than boring quests to level along, and instances to grab your loot, both of witch i do not like.nor is it very creative. My take on the end product?? A game that looks like Everquest but plays like WOW,nothing creative no game breaking ideas.I believe by looking at their staff, the game is going to have some nice animations some nice effects, some good story writing, but it all comes down to the reason you login ,we will have to wait and see if it is another WOW clone or not.It could be the nicest looking game, best effects /animations but if i have to run from NPC to NPC doing meaningless simple quests to hold my hand through leveling, then it won't be for me.
This. From everything I've read and seen on 38 Studios, and I've been following this company pretty closely, this is the game under development with absolutely the most potential, in my personal opinion. And it is because of Curt Schilling. Yes, McFarlane and R.A. Salvatore are the big creative names, but 38 Studios is entirely the brainchild of Curt. It is his idea, his drive and his money created the studio.
And he did it because he is a true gamer who absolutely loves MMOs, even so called "hardcore" ones. I think his passion for them is quite real, and he has assembled a team with a lot of potential. Additionally, he retains financial control over the company, along with I believe a couple other investors, and has said that while they do look for additional investors, they will not ever compromise by taking money from someone who will dictate to them either the creative direction of the game or its release date. Now, that may change in the future, but as of right now, that is the way it is.
To the OP, the game is confirmed to be an original IP created by R.A. Salvatore; it's not Everquest or any Forgotten Realms IP. It's art direction is lead by Todd McFarlane, and the lore is all Salvatore. The world has a 10,000 year history, and will have many races all with rich history which are different and unique but "inspired" by classical fantasy races such as humans, elves, etc.
Additionally, this new IP will be designed and presented across many forms of media, including the MMO game, single player RPG on console/PC, novels (written by R.A. Salvatore), comics and figurines (Todd McFarlane), and possibly even movies and TV. It's quite ambitious and its debatable whether this is a good idea or not, but the core IP is being designed from the start for such representation.
As for the gameplay being creative or not, they have said that DIKU MMOs do some things right, and other things they are working on are quite creative and original. Their motto is "how cool would it be if...". it remains to be seen how unique, fun, or creative the gameplay actually will be. Some very coy hints at a dynamic world in response to Trion's HoT.
One last feature of note to mention are some hints that the game will be very social. It will have extensive online/offline social features. It is also hinted that you will be able to interact with the gameworld outside of the game itself, ie there will be iphone apps, etc.
Another philosophy of 38 Studios and Curt Schilling is to release a complete and fully polished game. Actually, once its polished, put it back in the oven and polish it some more is the idea. The game will likely have the some of, if not the best art, sound, animation, and story put into an MMO.
So the ideals and philosophy for a truly great game are there in my opinion. And a pretty impressive team has been put together to build it. What it is going to come down to, in all honesty, is cash. Will they have the funding to complete such an ambitious project while retaining said polish and standards? As positive and hopeful as I am about this company, this is where I have my reservations. Red 5 just bit the bullet. The economy is in the gutter. I really wish Mr. Schilling and 38 Studios all the best, it could be a great new game.
Just to give you all a little more imput saying that Curt is the only gamer that is not true R.A. Salvatore is also a gamer he as well played EVerquest on the Fiona Vie server as a Wizard he has also helped SoE with a Expansion for EQ1 he did alot of the writeing diolog. I hope and pray this is a game that i know it can be from thease 3 great minds can we achive greatness.

Pretty heavy gaming credentials. They should put that on their resumes.
