Project of Planets - decent f2p sci-fi MMORPG/FPS

Figured I would make a post for this game since it didnt seem to be on the games list for MMORPG.com. Stumbled across the game this weekend and from what ive seen so far its a pretty damn cool game. Its a hybrid rpg/fps with a bit fo a sci/fi theme to it. where you play as these giant mechs/gears with the capability to upgrade weapons (main, sub, back, shoulder), armor pieces, sensors, engines, processors, and the base body of the mech itself along with a few other things. By allocating your stat pints into the different fields you also develop yourself into basically a class type which allows you to wear different types of armor, use different weapon types (bullet, laser, ecm) and gain different skill types.

The upgrading/crafting system ive found is pretty nice and simple but still effective as well. You can basically take 2 identical pieces of equipment and combine them to get a new upgraded piece with a bonus stat (seems to be random and ranges things such as DPS+, resistances, damage absorb, HP/ES/MP+, Crit+, range+, specific damage type +), and then again take 2 upgraded pieces and combine for more bonus stats and so on ( 2 white = green, 2 green = blue, etc). On top of the combining system there are also 2 other methods of upgrades, once which requires special ingredients to increase the base stats as well as the bonuses from upgrades, and another method called Synching, which binds the equipment to your character while improving all of the base stats of the item. Once youre done with all of your upgrades, each piece of equipment also has expansion slots which can be unlocked and then filled with different items to grant several different types of bonuses. Once you try it all out, its very easy to understand and you can gain a very wide variety of enhancements to seperate yourself from other players of the same class.

As far as skills go, you have teh usual gaining of skills from leveling, as well as distibuting skill/wisdom points, but nearly every piece of equipment also has a skill linked to it ranging from attacks, buffs, and debuffs. Skills are linked to hotkeys, and then used by pressing the assigned hotkey, and then attacking your target with the mouse buttons. The combat system revolves around a mix of 3rd person with manual cursor aiming (rather than lockon/tab targeting) and the ability to switch to 1st person by pressing Tab and for the most part gain better control of your attacks as well as layout more AOE damage (it basically seems that while in 1st person mode you can aim your regular attacks to pierce through or aoe hit multiple enemies at once, whereas in 3rd person it seems to only hit your specific target).

The game also has a few nice little featurs in it such as the Glide system, where by pressing Space, you gain a short (approx 4 or 5 seconds) burst of speed allowing you to travel faster, or when used on a slope or ledge allows you to gain a short flight distance. And it also features an easy to use auto-navigation system where you can look in your quest log or by doing a search on the zone maps and simply click an NPC and then basically go on auto-pilot to reach that NPC. Along with the auto-navigation, there is also a quest NPC searching system where you can locate available quest NPCs and perhaps come across quests that you may have missed along your travels.

So far ive only gotten to level 10, and am not too sure about some of the other details as far as any eventual grind, pvp, or endgame, but overall ive found the game to be pretty damn fun and well done (with the exception of a little bit of translation screwups aka Engrish). The graphics arent top notch, but theyre fairly good, and the fun hybrid gameplay and action certainly makes up for it. Perhaps some of you have also tried this one out and can enlighten us as to some more of the details on the game, or if any of you are interested here is the link to their site www.projectofplanets.com
