NASA's space MMO Astronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond (started developing this year) expects to release a demo (moonbase alpha) early 2010 through Steam.

The website has posted a date 7 July for Moonbase Alpha to come out.
There is also a one min 480p video trailer you can see.
I can hear it now. One of the first complaints is going to be about the lack of character customisation. And why is everyone bunny hopping.

NASA said the game is designed to 'engage and educate students about agency technologies, job opportunities and the future of space exploration.'
Moonbase Alpha can be played by one or up to six players. NASA said it is a precursor to a planned NASA-based "multiplayer online game project."

It's actually cool, incredible how a game doesn't need pew pew pew to be fun, though gameplay is quite limited at this point :P
Yeah too limited. After you explore the moon, what next? explore planets 1 by 1 then move to the next galaxy? I think this game needs more brainstorming in order for it to become a good game.
