To be honest, its a bit too late. The damage is done.
Although it is a good sign, unfortunately this is true for a lot of people. A lot of games have found that bad first impressions are hard to overcome (just recently this was proven with Champions Online). I'm still a little confused as to why it took them 2+ months to do something that they should of been doing after the 1st week. Further, the damage to the economy may have long reaching effects since the problem went on unabated for so long.
I was considering logging back into Aion for this reason, however I've moved on and find it difficult to make the time to go back. Bots were my only downfall with the game and now that they're gone I'm sure I'd enjoy it much more.
However, now have 3 other games I'm entertained with and feel inclined to beat. So I suppose I'm with the "little too late" crowd as well. If they hadn't driven me away in the first place I'd still be there.
I don't care if I see people botting, that's not what spoiled it... I do care if the bots are set to KS everything and there's so many you cannot complete quests though. That's what did it.

Seriously though. If your game's that easy for bots to take over and use. I don't want to play. You may see "they've banned 50k bots in under a month" I think its' a month. anyway you see it and say yay. I see it and say, ah glad to see they suck at managing bots for the US version. YES i'm glad they didn't use that horrible shitty gameguard, xtrap and such other compeltely and utterly BS programs that INSTANTLY make me tell everyone about how bad they are. But they could've done a little more server side to try to stop bots. Also this shows how much people playing Aion want to get the money. Sounds like a shitty game to me... 50k bots banned and it just keeps going up with each day. All of them will return with new accounts so right now we're at x number of bots. X which is ever increasing.
They need to do more than just get rid of bots and spammers, they need to put in all that stuff we saw from the "Vision" video. That Vision video did a lot to help the game, now if NCSoft will actually commit to making the game like that I bet it would take off in the US.
And im sure 50k bots have already rerolled and are back at it. These bans are just a band aid on a much bigger issue, and that is the lack of any sort of live gm support and a report feature that doesnt work at all.
I applaud them for trying to save face, but seriously, why still no gm support and why 2 months after release when there were bots getting ready in beta?
-troll: aionfanbot how many banned accounts aion have?

It's not going to matter to some people. Quite a few can't get over themselves - and view each game as if their opinions are fact and are shared by everyone.
Some people also become emotionally invested in loving or hating a game. I can understand the former still coming to a fan site, the latter is a little puzzling (I suppose they need to have their "vengeance", or need to be proven right, no matter how pathetic that is).
As I said, if one "gamebreaker" is removed or fixed, the haters will simply attempt to make another issue "gamebreaking". Even if they implement everything in the Visions video, and do it well, it will never be good enough, or well done enough, or NCSoft didn't hug them long enough, etc. The sharpshooters will be there, complaining endlessly about a game they don't play.
As to the Vision video, there are a lot of really good things in it. But, it only came out last week - these are things that will no doubt take time. To me, the game is really good as it stands right now, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The Visions stuff will just make it that much better.
I think it's a load of bullcrap. I cancelled before my first month was done because of the damn spam/bots and just re-activated and BAM Same shit as it ever was. I don't think they ban anyone for that shit. Also that vision trailer is a load of crap as well. Do the devs just think USA people are idiots like they are used to dealing with. someone needs to "Reckognize" bigtime Just cancelled account again and it's only been 5 days this time! I saw more bots during that 5 days than i saw at release and some were even linking malicious websites embedded right there in chat links in game. That beats all I have ever seen in any game. Do you people even know what could happen to you just by clicking one of those in-game chat links? No you are prob clueless of what i'm even talking about. No wonder so many people have had thier accounts stolen and don't understand why....sigh...
The reason they are so bad is because players use the damn services, which makes them spam even more...I mean if they did not get one sale out of the whole thing, they would not bother.
You know you are old when the dev's on the games you play are almost young enough to be your grand-kids.

I still see a lot bots around, but the goldseller spam in chat is basically gone. The cost of buying gold from the goldsellers is doubled since 1 week ago, there are a lot less mats sold in the AH too. If you take your time and use google youll find links to botsites and (for those public available) youll find a lot of botters whining about getting banned. NCSoft did ban a lot of accounts and they got the right ones this time. Nonetheless its still not enough, crazy but true.
If you resubbed because of one trailer, called "Vision" btw, thats your problem. Anyone with a little bit of knowledge knows that trailers are mostly pretty advertisments.
I wasted 2 minutes and logged into my account, went to the bank and checked the goldsellers sitting in front. The shops have links in the description but none is clickable. There is no spambot running rampant in chat atm, so I cant say if chatlinks are clickable, but if my memory saves me right, they arent. Even if they would, its in the end the user problem. If some guy would post in this thread a link its not the problem of mmorpg.com staff that someone clicks on it.
I dont have a clue what happens when I click strange links simply because Im not dumb enough to click on them. But as youre so much more experienced, feel free to fill my knowledge gap with some facts. And the "many people which got their accounts stolen" was exactly 1 thread I read on this forum and a couple of threads on aionsource. Thats probably 0.0001% of the Aion players. Yeah thats an exagerated guess of mine.
My problem with Aion was not the bots, was the lack of support. I had a problem with my client, it kept crashing. After 2 weeks of no replies on the official technical support forums, I gave up checking on it and moved on. Which is a shame, cause I was having a blast in the game.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
YAY FOR NCSOFT'S POOR BOT MANAGEMENT WOOT!!! Seriously though. If your game's that easy for bots to take over and use. I don't want to play. You realize of course that it's equally easy to create a bot for any game as it is for Aion? All of the more popular MMOs have some kind of bot and or hacks available for them. The only MMO company who has more or less successfully stopped the bots/hacks is WoW and that's because they filed legal charges against the people distributing them and have effectively scared everyone else into not distributing their bots for WoW.
Another issue to consider is that Aion (and other NCSoft titles) have very large global markets which makes them juicy targets for the people who want to make some cash with bots/hacks.
I will say NCSoft should have known better and should have already had a bot detection unit setup from day 1, however, saying they have poor bot management just because they made a very popular game and are big target is just ignorant.

NCSoft appears to be taking the botting problem seriously. I'm actually surprised.
I hope they keep it up.

50,000 botters? Gee, i wonder why this game didn't do better in North America. Ah, who cares. I'm going back to Mirkwood.

The bots are hardly gone, the ones that got nailed are just rerolling. If there's money to be made the bots will continue.

Botting is probably one of the lowest concerns of mine. Either way, still helpful to ban them.
