Why are people still looking for a WoW killer? It's not going to happen. WoW caters to a very broad range of people, and that's it's appeal. What the MMO market does need, is something new that doesn't follow the formula WoW has set.
Will Rift: Planes of Telara replace WoW? No. But I do believe it will provide the much needed escape from WoW that a lot of gamers have been looking & waiting for. Myself included.
