To wow or not to wow.

After 6 months of looking for good mmo's to play after leaving world of warcraft. Im starting to get the wow itch again so why should i go back when i have applied for both STO and TOR beta's. To start paying again for wow then if i like sto or tor drop it to play one of them full time seems like a waste to me.

Why not just wait for the expansion? Borderlands and Dragon Age just came out too.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

    Try Torchlight.

Well both STO and TOR are lightyears away (see what i did there=) so you gots too play something till then. I believe that Cataclysm will be released early spring so play some free games till then or help revive one of the solid mmos out there like AoC, War or LOTRO (all three are doing relatively fine but more players is always better).

You are worried about wasting your time playing WoW? LOL....isn't that what MMOs are about? Entertainment to waste time. Well at least to the general population. You could be lookin at sometime next year before either of the other two games come out.

Play WoW if ya want to. Or take a few months off from MMOs till the other games you are waiting for come along. There's been a few good single player RPGs come out over the past year. Or just fool around with a few of the F2P WoW clones that are kicking around.

IMO wow has to much content. Been playing it and guildwars and swg for 4 years. But i have played wow the most of all of them and cant get it out of my head.

  • Ultimately, it's still the whole shallow carrot on a stick philosophy.  If you've quit before, you'll probably quit again, and in a quicker amount of time.  Nothing Blizzard's done to wow makes it any different from the game it's been for the past five years.

Don't ask a question about WoW on this site, you will just get a bunch of people who will preach to you for the rest of your life on why they think WoW sucks, and how it ruined the MMORPG genre for good all by itself.

Sounds like WoW might be your kind of game to be quite honest.

If you want a change and like PvE, beautiful graphics and the Tolken milleu I'd suggest LotRO.

Sadly, the same can be said about fanbois, hard to say anything negative here and not be shot down for sharing a pov. Absolutely NO ONE is allowed to share an opinion it seems.

Oh well, it's either this or working.

Did it ever occur to you that there are other MMOs out there that has certain aspects of it that is better than WoW. Sure, WoW is a well-rounded game, but there are some features in WoW that does not appeal to certain groups. For example, the PVP system in WoW is terrible compared to the PVP system in games such as Darkfall or EVE.

So no, its not that people are stupid for  wanting to play games other than WoW. Its just that we prefer features that WoW offers poorly.

So run along now and pray to your Lich King action figure while vigorously playing WoW, reading WoW lore and believing that you are an intelligent life-form just because you like WoW.

    @zorn

An intellegent person would realize people play games for many reasons. Be it because the lore appeals to them, combat mechanics fit their preference, so on and so forth..

Claiming people play other games only because of lack of intellegence, isn't very intellegent at all. That is in the end, basically what you are claiming.

    I tried 90% of those...

Sorry but the PVP system in WOW for example is head and shoulders above the competition. Why ?

Because the control and responsiveness of your avatars in WOW is FAR better and more fluid than in any other mmorpg I played.

I hate a game where you can't control your avatar in a fluid and responsive way. Most of the OFF line adventure games suck even in this aspect of a game.

And ... that's the BASIC element of PvP isn't it: ---- > NOT fighting your controls, but fighting the other person.

I am not surprised WOW is the ONLY mmorpg with a representation on E sports Broadcast channel. ESPN.

But this extreme example of polish shines in every way the game is made. Itemisation, class designs, quest designs, the extreme polish of Raid content.

You are being VERY naieve if you think you can compete with 5% of the development resources.

That's why intelligent people play WOW. I only PAY for the best developped resources.

    -----

I still want to play the usual amateurish competition now and then (like the upcoming ST), but I don't expect ANYTHING worthwile that could compete with a Blizzard product.

I am too intelligent to expect otherwise.

What if players dislike a fantasy setting? Raids? Set classes?

What if we like FFA pvp with item loss? What about territory control?

    Wow offers none of that.

Yet I'm not intelligent because I choose not to play a certain video game? A video game that offers everything but the features I enjoy during my free time?

Thats what is wrong with this world, ppl like that retard zorn think that WoW is the only game out there.  Thats why we all do not look alike, walk alike, talk alike...WHY because we are not all alike.  Some like to be led around by the hand, some like other aspescts of a game.  WoW is not the only game out there... is it good? was til I hit 70 then no it became boring.   So Zorn I am sorry but 90% of the ppl hear ignore your posts.  Well they say 80% of stats are made up but I feel this one is accurate.. nobody cares what you think of a game.

I hate a game where you can't control your avatar in a fluid and responsive way. Most of the OFF line adventure games suck even in this aspect of a game.  Your criteria for selecting a pvp game is the control, ok thank you for informing me that, I most certainly do not care about that aspect as much as you.

And ... that's the BASIC element of PvP isn't it: ---- > NOT fighting your controls, but fighting the other person.  You are concerning about the control, I am concerned about the purpose of a pvp, others maybe interested in skill sets.  Each of us have his/her own sets of preference.

I am not surprised WOW is the ONLY mmorpg with a representation on E sports Broadcast channel. ESPN.  So bloody what?  That means its good?  I also note that Coke is featuring ads on every major channel, so ...?

But this extreme example of polish shines in every way the game is made. Itemisation, class designs, quest designs, the extreme polish of Raid content.  Polishness is definitely one of the major strength of WoW, but gaming does not end there, however importance polishness is.

You are being VERY naieve if you think you can compete with 5% of the development resources.  You sure?  That we need to play a game that beats the other game?  How does WoW beat DAoC, they pvp? and WoW launches a fireball dealing 5672 damage to DAoC and DAoC died?

That's why intelligent people play WOW. I only PAY for the best developped resources.  So you are trying to tell us you are an intelligent people.  Sure, thank you for the classification.  My lead professor does not play WoW, I will go tell him that a certain Zorn classify him as not intelligent.  I need to call the ambulance first, in case he die of laughter.

In as much as I play WoW regularly, along with a few other games (Dragon Age: Origin, lately), I hate the way Zorn try to make himself look bigger than what he is.  If his intelligence is based on an electronic game, I will have to worship his super human god mode intelligence, oh well, time to log out and forget WoW, back to the real world.

    I can understand your dilemma.

Play what you enjoy now......... Leaving WoW does not mean you cannot return. I have left and returned to many games, I tend to need a break from games, and since there are few games that I enjoy i tend to return to them when i get the itch again, nothing at all wrong with that.

These games will be around for a long long time, so there is no rush.... pick and choose which ever you enjoy at the time, as this is what is the most important thing to YOU.

If you want to play a game dont join the betas. You will be leveling your character and it will be wiped, then you will already know a lot of the game and you will spoil yourself throught the content. My recomendation, if you want to play wow, go play wow.

I am not saying you are not intelligent when you don't play WOW or a Fantasy based game.

I am saying that IF you are playing WOW, you are intelligent enough to understand what's making the difference between a game in which Blizzard invested over 200 million dollars over the last 5 years....

and a game that tries to do something with 1-5% of that amount.

Be it itemisation, high level content, smooth and responsive gameplay in various forms of  PVE/PVE, options.

I pay a subscription for the game that offers me a 200 million dollar investment worth of gameplay.

IF you think you can find that in games with low cost budgets, you simply lack intelligence.

THAT is my answer to the OP: to WOW or not to WOW....

In my opinion, I pay a subscription to play a game I enjoy, no matter how many money the developer invested on it. But is up to you. I had a lot of fun playing games that with your reasoning are out of the question, but go on, it's up to you.

Did you leave before or after 3.2.2 (the Argent tournament raids)? You may want o wait till Ice Crown is out then come back for that content. It should be here within a few months (or even weeks).
