No mate, official forums are important! Maybe not to all players, but to many. And MANY read them without posting.
Allowing forums to become too strict kils the forum, allowing a descent dose (not extreme) of freedom develops a sense of community amongst the players, which I believe is important, and I know form another post about population that you believe it's important also
I guess the way you look at it is by maximising forum activity?
Anyway, I guess I've said what I had to say so I'm not gona repeat myself, but I really still think it's a problem to have moderators form the playerbase...
P.S. Also please keep in mind that many posts on official forums are not always adressed to funcom even if they ARE rants about Funcom.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
judging from the topic you were trying to discuss and your previous ban i can only conclude you are just a troll who is getting what is you deserve.

and about Tahi, she was absolutely not a sweeitie. SHe played the game and posted with her own game account then asnwered her game account posts with her moderator account. She also held a crazy blog but I won't go there, to each his own.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
I should imagine Funcom is enforcing a strict code of censorship, probably as more and more posters are pointing out the negatives of AoC and fewer are pointing out the positives (Due to the negatives growing with each patch as the positives diminish). As there are more posters being negative (with good reason) they're balancing the forums which is alot easier than say fixing bugs in siege warfare (which after 18 months they've failed to do in my opinion). So just delete enough naughty posts in order that there are more positive ones with a few token disgruntled posts that aren't to inflamitory.
This is very true. Even though my post was about maturity and not the game itself, I've seen it happen many times ^^
However I guess they have a right to do that. But I've been wondering, as far as "rights" go, how can a player protect his rights?
I'm not saying it is the case, but lets imagine a Moderator goes bananas and bans you for no reason (again, this is a fictional example), what can you do about it? Is there any legal prescendent?
Do people have "rights" in a virtual world?
I think the rights you have are not much difference than the real world, for example if I owned a newspaper that you purchased every month by paying a fee to your news agents our rights are no different. You can send in letters and I choose which ones to publish or not. If you have a complaint about my newspaper you can complain to whoever you wish, however if I haven't broken the law nor infringed on your rights as the customer it's just tough.
I'm not going to advertise the fact in my own magazine/newspaper that I lost 90% of my reader base in 3 months, or that I haven't delivered the articles I promised to publish or that most previous customers think my paper "suxs". I'm in business and want to make money, publishing your comments would be suicide!
You do have the right to stop buying it, let others know that you think my paper sucks and why, aslong as you remain in the law I can't censor you outside of my newspaper (although I can try and all MMORPG companies do to some extent or another).
Funcom official forums (or anyother companies official forums) are under no more obligation to publish facts and give honest Q&A's than any crappy gutter press gossip mag you see on the supermarket shelves. That's why I rarely post on official forums even if I subscribe to the game, for the most part I use them for tech support and asking about bugs and work arounds.

the point is that there were, and are random volonteers from the player base moderating those forums, and 95% of the player base (including myself, and I admit freely) are mental

You're not making a very good case for yourself though, showing us how many times you've been warned/banned only strengthens the reason you were this time.

Those are meant for every single user on the forums. There is no people that is on my private "black list", and nothing regarding moderation is taken personal. There are several rules that moderators them selfs have to respect. Also there is people monitoring moderation, if anything is off the limits infractions are reversed. Like Famine said there is many cases of reversing infractions.
And secondly, I like to point the "myth" of FC (in this case moderators) censoring forums. There is no such things, there is no one sending some secret orders from above saying do that and that. Its all fictional. Moderation is done by the individual moderator at the time. If topic is moderated, its in violation with the Guidelines. Hope to clear more this part of the topic.
I am also a player and many of the issues I encounter every day, the last thing I want is for them stay "hidden" from the Devs. Providing feedback is for the community and for us to make sure it gets to them.
Also using insulting words in PM to moderator wont bring you any good or respect towards you. Being polite is the first rule people should learn on any online community. PM's doesn't mean you can say everything you want. Its another form of communication with another person. Maturity is what we aiming for

I have no idea how it works since I never been a moderator. Personnaly, I think you must have to be on some kind of power trip to volonteer on a moderator. I'm not looking for respect from you, YOUR the one who should be looking for respect form the player base.
As to the myth about censorship, I can't develop an argument on that since I never (and rightly so) had access to internal procedures etc.
However, I do have access to the results, and those are that a very common reasons for warning/ban etc is ranting, and what does ranting mean? Basically coming from the game because something is messed up, and expressing it on the forum.
Now you might not have specific instruction to censor, but I still believe that it's there.
As it was pointed out before, censorship cant be illegal, on the contrary it's to be expected. However I don't think it's an ideal to work to, and in this case, playing hypocrit about it saying it doesn't exist is dis honest to say the least.
2 more points.
- being polite is NOT the first rule you learn or should learn on any online community. That's extremely idealistic to say the least. I don't see why you can not be rude, especially in a mature gaming community.
- I'm seriously sick and tired of this maturity obsession. Really, you can't pick your nose in game without someone yelling at you that you're some kid.
You should not have a polite mature community as objective, you should try to have a fun one. The game was marketed on the "mature" concept, and it's what attracted many people, but this is taking it to far...
To me, a mature community should aris naturally, not something structured by the moderators, and if YOU treat people with respect, they will naturally treat you back with respect, no need to be polite about it.

You should visit the ao forums if you think aoc forums are bad.. Its what aoc forums are going to turn into in a few years if aoc survives that long. The forum will become a den of the most elitist players you will ever find and they will have a grasp on all feedback issues and any new player or new views will be squashed by them. By that time all of their elite friends will be mods to protect them and shield them from all opposition. If you think that is bad I suspect a friend of mine got his account banned from me mentioning his name in a heated forum argument with one of them. His inactive in good standing account suddenly goes banned soon after I mention his name as someone else that shared a similar view.
Date the ban will be lifted: 6th December 2009, 17:17
funny thing is, I have no idea why :XD
I think it's cause the game director made a post about the servers crashing saying they were working hard. He said they were having about 12 crashes a day and it wasn't something they wanted on live server
I replied
thank God you don't want 12 crashes a day, even if it's only 12 crashes !
but ya, thanks for info
haha they ban me for that ^^
strange though, the post is still there
can't really think of any other reason, unless Vorbiz got mad at me for flaming him in private messages ^^
I give 15 gold to find out in game name of these noobs so I can grief them )))

Well that is what happens when it comes to funcom. One piece of advise when you do get the ability to post again make sure you never mention peoples names you know in game otherwise you might end up with having your friends entire game accounts banned out of spite.
I'm still out till November 22nd. That was a 3 months ban. I also have no idea what it was for. Since they don't email you giving a reason. They simply apply summary justice and courts martial. I can only assume it was for personal insults (via a pm mind you) I gave to Aghorra, about being a pve nablet, and how preposterous I found that one such as he was allowed to moderate a pvp forum.
It certainly does seem he has a personal black list and an agenda of some sort. He is also a fucking liar when he states there is no Funcom policy on negativity. They delete entire posts that criticise the game, the company, the developers. Posts just vanish. And even if it's true (unlikely) he says it's up to the individual mod. Then he must realise that gagging people only encourages them to move elsewhere, to a much broader community such as this, and wash Funcom's dirty linen in public.
Funcom since AoC was released have a history of lying to their customers. They had the pro-liar extraordinaire, Erling Ellinson doing the rounds lying like a bastard at release. And the lies continue.

You don't need to break the RoC to get banned on the official forums. All you need to do is post a couple of critical posts and you will get banned for it. It happened to me and also my friend. Neither of use used any foul language or anything like that. Our posts were were thought out and mature, just like constructive feedback is supposed to be. But I guess our posts made AoC look bad so we got banned.
You are absolutely correct about that. The post will usually get deleted and sent to the black hole of FC criticisms. I think it's the ostrich with it's head in the sand scenario......then they ban you.

What you going to do now, fucking ban me yet again from your forums for saying negative things about you on these forums ?

I guess you haven't dated many women then? Trust me when I say that there are some real bitches out there.
And this is why you are still dating and not in a relationship. I can't say that I am surprised. A girl or woman of class would likely never put up with the words that come out of your mouth or the pedantic commentary of many of your posts.
Lesson #1: Never use the B word referring to a woman. And never let another woman hear you say it, even if it is true. They will lose all respect for you, if they ever had any...

Different cultures I guess. I know a few women of class. Have never seen anyone of them acting like a "b-word" thing. Mutually exclusive propositions basically!
However I applaud your exquisite use of irony in your educational post.
(Oh snap - did I do that?)
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!! (repeat ad infinitum)

Oh you would be surprised. And yes there are. I am wont on occasion to be one of them.
I was merely making a little tongue in cheek comment regarding that FC mod. Since the last one who partook of this kind of nazi moderation (then emo_quit) was also a woman.
The real question is who the heck still goes to AoC official forums? I'm sure anyone who:
1) plays MMOs
2) knows at least one other person in the world,
Would know that those forums are just propoganda, they would also know how the AoC failed again when people came back for the free trials and quickly bounced again. AoC will never fix the game or make it worth playing so Funcom is just pouring money into advertising it.
Just found out what my 3 months ban was for. Since they don't email you, and you have no access to your forum account until the ban is lifted. I was rude in a pm to a mod. After being infracted for mentioning broken sieges. He then infracted me again and went running to his boss. I asked for the name and contact details of his immediate superior. This was ignored. I repeated the request. Then his boss (Tarib) came along and banned me for 3 months.

Hilarious..... All the best, Age of Conan Europe Forums I want the name of your immediate superior and details on how to contact him/her. Your ridiculous unprofessionalism in moderation is an absolute disgrace. Handing out infractions like some little Corsican corporal, and not having the common decency to email the reason for banning, nor indicating any recourse that can be taken.
You are a joke and I stand my my assertion, a pve nablet !!!
You do realise that people are jumping ship from this game, and in many cases arseholes like you are the final straw. Treating PAYING customers as if they are a piece of dogshit on the heel of your pve booties.
First they employ a moderator who poses questions as a player in the forums, and then answers herself with her moderator jacket on. What a total farce, and now we have npc bashers moderating a pvp forum. It's ridiculous.
Reason SPAM: my arse. The real reason is you got butthurt and went personal under the guise of "doing your job." PATHETIC
Dear Tranca,
You have received an infraction at Age of Conan Europe Forums.
This infraction is issued because of a PrivateMessage you sent to one of our volunteer moderators. Your tone and accusations in there make it impossible for me to just let it go by.
If you have questions about this infraction or would like to discuss moderation issues, you are welcome to contact me by PM.

My reply below. I'll probably get infracted again. No big deal. As one poster already mentioned the AoC forums are about as appealing as having your tits nailed to a tree and being gang raped by the entire French foreign legion.
Firstly. Isn't it manners to at least email a customer giving a reason for the forum ban. How can one have any recourse if they are unable to log in and see the reason they have been infracted ?
You gave me a 3 months ban, and I had no idea what for. I could only guess that it was because I was rude to a moderator. The way customers are treated by this company reeks of national socialism. Judge jury and executioner all in one big twisted helping of personal spite.
I cannot comment about a product I pay for unless my comment is along party lines. If it's not it either gets deleted without a trace or gets deleted and I get infracted.
Fair enough. It's your forum, if you want to suppress the truth go for it. If you want to hide your head in the sand, and pretend we are all happy little subscribers go for it. Have a ball. I will either take my custom elsewhere, or speak my mind to a broader audience.
you won't gain anything by posting on their forums anyway so why bother? Just don't give them any more money and fc will disappear eventually forever. Their kind of moderation abuse happens every day. Ever since they opened a balance forum on ao boards its become a treasure trove.

Hello
I only have couple of things to say.
On posting threads such as in your OP there is nice guide here:

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
looool
Banned again ! I did not last one week !!
A Message from the King !
You have been banned due to infractions.

Hi Baba,
I'm still out till November 22nd.

I think it's the ostrich with it's head in the sand scenario......then they ban you.
www.youtube.com/watch explains it all.

How's this for mature Herr Oberstgruppenfuhrer Aghorra....you sir are a lying cunt.
What you going to do now, fucking ban me yet again from your forums for saying negative things about you on these forums ?
That would be Madam, if I am not mistaken.
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate!?
Being a woman myself, I find it quite disturbing that one of my own sex could be such an arsehole. This is worrying.

(repeat ad infinitum)
zomfg would some mod plz ban these spammers??????
:XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Oh you would be surprised. And yes there are. I am wont on occasion to be one of them.
I was merely making a little tongue in cheek comment regarding that FC mod. Since the last one who partook of this kind of nazi moderation (then emo_quit) was also a woman.

ya, cause the competition is REAL TOUGH !!!! O_O

Funcom has reviewed all of its assets relevant for
impairment testing. This process has led to
recognition of an impairment loss of around
3,1 MUSD for Age of Conan due to a decrease in
numbers of subscribers for the game. Funcom Q4 10 report.

My reply below. I'll probably get infracted again. No big deal. As one poster already mentioned the AoC forums are about as appealing as having your tits nailed to a tree and being gang raped by the entire French foreign legion.
Tranca [RUS corp]
you won't gain anything by posting on their forums anyway so why bother? Just don't give them any more money and fc will disappear eventually forever. Their kind of moderation abuse happens every day. Ever since they opened a balance forum on ao boards its become a treasure trove.
