    Today I just upgraded to a gig of ram from 512, and in the games I'm playing so far I havn't noticed a difference, and in some cases I'm running them slower.  That's probably just because it's a Friday night, and these games don't even take up the original 512ram.

    So.

    512MB PC3200 RAM - $100 CDN

    Can't get away with 512 RAM in any of the new games coming out anyway.  I'm more excited for HL2, on November 16th, than EQ2 by a long shot.  THE PHYSICS OF HL2...!  That game is going to be amazing.  I'm pumped.

    Nothing, because while my computer could run it at medium-high levels I wouldn't buy stuff just to get a single game to work better or at all with so many better choices out there.

    im not buying the computer to only play EQ2, mind you. it is a much needed upgrade that will last me a few years. im going to buy Guild Wars, ES4: Oblivion, Full Spectrum Warrior, etc. etc. but EQ2 is one of the major reasons i need it. this comp i have now is crap, i needed it anyway. and im sure everyone else isn't buying it solely for EQ2 (although i could be wrong).

    Just built almost a complete new system.  Had the case, monitor, sound card etc.

    P4 3.4GHz Prescott w/HT  $300
    Abit AS8 Motherboard  $120
    2gigs DDR400 $300
    Geforce 6800GT 256MB $400
    250Gig WD SATA HD $160
    500W Power supply $60

    so around $1350 total but worth every penny

    I spent 2500 bucks canadian on my new computer JUST for next generation games... not specifically for eq2 but i suspect it has a motivating factor.. and i had to settle for a radeon 9800 pro lol, it would have come out to just over 3 grand for an X800XT or something like that...

    And guess what, in like a month i will be upgrading my video card, that will bring the cost of my system up to about 3300 bucks  LOL

    /cry..

    btw i also bought a monitor with it for almost 400 bucks so that has to count for something.

    AMD athlon 64 3400+

    1gig pc3200 ram

    radeon 9800 pro

    dvd player/cd-rw

    19" monitor, 1600x1200 max resolution

    keyboard/mouse/speakers/

  • smakusmaku Member Posts: 67

    And before you say i got ripped off...  i'll remind you it was canadian dollars.. i'll price it out for you

    monitor =            400

    radeon 9800 pro = 350

    tower =      a bunch (2-300)

    dvd player   =       50 bucks

    cd-rw           =       50 bucks

    1 gig ram     =        150 bucks

    keyboard/mouse/speakers= 120 bucks

    Windows XP  =     170 bucks

    Motherboard  (k8vSE deluxe)= 300 bucks

    80gig seagate barracuda HD= 80 bucks

    TOTAL = 2080 + 14% tax

    = 2300 bucks

    Total was actually about 2500 so i missed something

    anyway... I bought the exact same computer at Tiger Direct (supposedly the cheapest place) and it came out to 1900 bucks before tax and shipping... so i suspect some of you are fibbing about your prices, or already had a bunch of your stuff to put into your new system.

    On a side note I think you got jipped. For that same price I'm gonna get everything you have but instead the AMD 64 bit FX-53 processor and 2gigs. All quality parts and name brands.

    Eh?  Where can you get 512 megs of ram for $85?

    Smaku, next time your looking for computer parts try www.zipzoomfly.com or www.newegg.com they usually have the best prices. I use them both all the time. As for some of the people who gave thier ram prices I can see you bought value select or something cheap like that. Not sure about shipping to canada though. EQ 2 is goona ROCK!!!

    Nothing already owned a athlon 2600,1gb,R9800pro and a athlon 1600,1gb,ti4600 and both can run EQ2 fine just one better then other.

    Retiring the older model next year(i retire a whole system every 3 years) once the next generation Gcards hit the shelves.

    So in a way i am guessing i will be spending a lot but i do it every 3 years .System i am aiming at  will be

    2GB OCZ PC4400

    AMD athlon 64 3500+ winchester

    ASUS AV8

    550W power supply

    Graphics card- whichever is the next one to be released.This is what will hold me up since i rather build with the new cards coming out in less then 5  months time.PCI-E of courseimage

    Usual other extras DVD/CD RW,some case(not very bothered as long as they are big so i can upgrade easy),cooling etc.

    Gonna cost a pretty penny  image

    i made my computer, but not specifically for EQ2. i used ebay and newegg for most of my parts. i originally thought that i'd take my Dell 4550 and move it to a new case. yes, i was very naive. image the only things that survived were my processor, hard drive and CD-RW. it took me a while to get the parts, being that i'm not rich. took me about 6 months actually. my stuff isn't the top of the line, but it's not bad either. there's plenty of room to grow. i do, however, have a 500 w power supply, so getting the 6800 GT won't be a problem to add. image

    More than I planned on...

    Athlon 64 2800+ @ 3500+ with mobo - $210

    Geforce 6800gt @ 425/1150 - $400 image

    I had originally gotten a good deal on a normal 6800, but it kinda broke...so I gotta send it back to newegg for a refund.  image

    upgraded my computer a bit, as well as bought a new computer for my wife so she coul play:

    my computer upgrades:

    ati radeon 9800 pro (128 mb) ==== $230

    ===========================

    thats all i needed to change in order to be able to play at the lvl of performance that i wanted.  that gives me exactly the same system as what i upgraded my wifes machine to:

    my wifes computer upgrades:

    basically a whole computer:

    nforce 2 motherboard:=== $70

    ati radeon 9800 pro===$200 (on sale...go figure)

    1 gig pc 3200 ram === $140

    athalon xp 2400+ === $70

    dvd rom / cdr-cdrw drive== $30

    total spent:  $510

    i think i got some pretty good prices when i overhauled her computer.  check out www.newegg.com, thats where i go for all my computer parts...

    oh yeah and NO sales tax.....its good to live in Oregon:)

    Luckily, for EQ II, I bought a very expensive computer earlier this year (before I even knew about EQ II), but it was bad for the checking account.  lol  image

    9800 Pro 128 mb = bought it shortly after it came out

    P4 2.8 ghz processor = bought it when the 3.1s came out

    20" LCD = got it because my my 21" CRT died on me after 7-8 years

    1 gb PC3200 RAM = bought it when I got the new processor/motherboard

    total = $0

    If EQ2 doesn't run as well as I'd like, I'll spend $200 and buy me an athlon 64 bit 3.4ghz processor and see how that does.

    Possible total = $200
