Permadeath guilds in DDO:EU

For any of the new players that don't know, DDO has a large and active permadeath community. Permadeath in DDO is done in guilds mostly, and on the honor system (we manually delete characters because there is no official support for it in-game).

Permadeath = if a character dies it is deleted (basically no rez shrines, raise dead spells are allowed).  Definitely not for everybody but it adds a whole new level of fun to the game whether you do occasionally with an alt or two or you play  nothing but permadeath. Each server has at least one open pd guild and many more static or in-guild permadeath groups. Each guild has it's own 'flavor' of  permadeath and their own rulesets. Check them all out and find the one that fits you:

The Sublime Permadeath Guild (Thelanis) - http://www.thesublimeguild.com

The oldest PD guild in the game, they have been running since the original headstart. They allow the AH, Brokers, and some DDOStore items. They have completed the Dragon Raid (with under a minute left on the timer!) and their high-level group is in the 16-18 level range (with at least one at 1750 favor). It has a lighter ruleset than some of the other PD guilds

Extreme Explorers (Sarlona) - http://extremeexplorers.guildportal.com

Extreme Explorers is only a few months younger than Sublime, have been going strong since the first year of DDO. They have a simmilar ruleset to sublime. They have completed the Tempest Spine raid and the high-level group is around level 12. These guys are a lot of fun to run with.

Mortal Voyage Permadeath Guild (Argonnessen) - http://www.mortalvoyage.com

These guys said deleting our characcters when they die isn't hard enough, we want a challenge :). They don't allow brokers or Auction house and try go deliver a more PnP feel to the game. They have had several characters reach 1750 favor and have done the Tempest Spine raid on Elite.

Valhalla Permadeath Guild (Ghallanda) - http://valhallapdguild.proboards.com

These guys have a similar ruleset to Mortal Voyage. They are only a few months old but have a large group of characters almost ready for a Tempest Spine run.

The Core HC Permadeath (Khyber) - http://thecorehc.home.comcast.net

Many people refer to Permadeath guilds as Hardcore, and with these guys it's true (with their ruleset at least). They got to the higher levels in Mortal Voyage and said this is too easy... lets try it without using Rest Shrines!. They managed to complete The Crucible pre-mod9 with a level 12 group. I can tell you from experience that playing a caster in this guild is like a whole new class :P

Stormreach Society RP PD (Cannith) - http://stormreachsociety.com

This is a new PD guild on the new server with a focus on Roleplaying (other PD guilds have some ocasional light RP but not much). The death rules are lighter than the other guilds but they have an interesting set of item rules to emulate brew potion/scribe scroll/etc.. feats from PnP.

Permadeath also carries with it the requirement that people know what they're doing.

Nothing worse than getting mobbed or mowed down, simply because your team members cluelessly didn't fill their roles.

I don't recommend permadeath to anyone, simply because you *will* run into 'tards that would rather save their own skins than save the group. And then it isn't fun anymore :)

It's just my 2 cent opinion.

110% WRONG. Permadeath guilds (the ones I listed at least) welcome new players and have many free to play players. I've known several people that came to DDO because they heard about permadeath and learned the game playing nothing but PD. You won't get to level 10+ content on your first few characters but that's not really the point.
Newbies will have a tougher time in guilds like The Core and Mortal Voyage but are still welcome there.

We don't blame others for our own deaths, losing a character is part of the permadeath experience. If somebody is playing recklessly we ask them to slow down. If they continue to play that way we let them run off and die as it is the only way they are likely to learn to pay attention. I'm not saying we don't heal them, but we don't rush after them risking our lives and that of the party to babysit them.

The 'tards' are not generally attracted to permadeath and those that do try it out don't stay more than a week or two. Yes, there are a few that would rather save their own skins than save the group, one in particular that is famous within permadeath circles likes to brag that he has never lost a character :).  After pissing people off in all the guilds I listed he eventually had to start up his own.

Permadeath is definitely not for everybody, but I'm sure if you spent some time with one of these guilds you would realise that your fears are unfounded.
