Poor story line in quests and what quests there are = grindy a lot of kill 10 of this and of that, you know like the wow ones (boars) which blizzard are getting rid of in the next expansion. The more i play aion the more i see a game lacking in any quality at all apart from its probally the best of the Asian games, infact it might have been brilliant if released all them years ago instead of being released extremely late, and now its just totally bland with nothing that has not been seen before or really new and original to offer.

Seriously if it takes you more than a week to get to cap people are upset. I played EQ2 and it took me four months back in 06' and it was FUN, and I played 6-8hours a day on average if not more. I honestly do not enjoy quest. They are stupid and lame for the most part. Some are well thoughtout and the story is good, but for the most part, kill X to get X off it, gather X, find X, aquire X are are the same. Why am I killing ten guys you can easily handle and how does that make me stronger by the way of experience at the end? (Dungeon and Dragons pnp I know had encounters difficulty and really you can't compare a quest in an mmo to pnp and expect the same results for difficulty encounter) I hope it takes me 4months to ge to cap, and even if it doesn't, I hope the journey is enjoyable. I do not want a game that I can get to cap and then participate(Age of Conan for example when I leveled up my second toon, it was pure boredom and I wanted to rip my hair out.) They're probably removing them because the leveling curve in that game has been lowered so much they aren't necessary any more any ways. You would be stunned how fast you level in that game if you played it pre expansions compared to now. It's ridiculous. People don't even bother with most of the lower level dungeons any more because what's the point? You don't need them to level and why bother trying to get the gear from them when you're going to outlevel it so fast.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

Blizzard has actually gone to great lengths to improve the quality of their quests.
In WOTLK, there were many quests that did not follow the standard go there, kill X, collect Y model. There was one quest where you had to ride dragons around a swirling tower and use a chain to pull other riders off their dragons. There was another where you had to ride on a giant's back and trample hundreds of enemies below. Or one really impressive onewhere you attack the under city...
Not to mention the entire Death Knight beginning campaign which included many well thought-out and scripted quests that blow anything I have seen in Aion out of the water....
In comparison, a huge level grind with re-skinned monster models we have already seen is not too impressive. Just my opinion...
For me till I can get 1-5 lvls a day is enough even a level and a half a day would not be bad at least for me but this is unlike to happen in aion at the lower levels at least so I don't know what's the fuss it's not like the level cap is 100 or 200.

But the problem is you can't expect a game that when it launches to have all the content wow has, wow has been 5 years out a plenty of time to add stuff into the game.
For a game that when it launches for the first time to have the same amount of content or more then wow it would take too much plus huge cost to make. When wow released it had enough content to make the audience happy then added slowly more stuff to keep on making their players happy.

Not saying that I do expect that. You had asked which sorts of special quests they would change them to and I answered with Blizzard's model.
I certainly don't expect any game to have the same level of polish or content that Blizzard delivers with WoW, but a total lack of quests at certain points in the game is not fun... nor is a repetitive level grind that makes me feel like I'm barely progressing at all...

Not sure if it's true but people say that asmodians have less quests compared to elyos later on.
The problem with some people dunno you but some quests don't show on minimap but if you look at the npcs they can have blue "arrow" icon meaning a quest and some or many not sure of those quests can be found scrambled around many towns/camp overall the zone or even in other zones you been there earlier.
There are quests it's just frustrating for some and sometimes even I find it frustrating to go back in past towns to see if there are new maps. They should at least show if there are any available quests on the map but only were is discovered.
I did read that NCsoft plans to add in quest content with future patches and expansions, though that doesn't help much right now.
I think part of the problem is not the mid level grind pace, but the fact the first 1 to 15 goes so fast. I Think it sets up an expectation that the rest of the game will level at a similar rate, albiet a little slower with each higher level.
Instead, levels 1 to 20 zooms by and then somewhere between 21 and 25, folks hit a wall.
Understandeably, this can be very frustrating, especially if you were enjoying the game up to that point. After all, the pace and nature of leveling and the questing structure is a core element to any MMO, and if that changes midstream, many players will feel let down.
If they had the lower levels advance more slowly, folks would be more conditioned to the "grind".
Of course, one has to wonder, if NCsoft did that, would Aion have the number of subs it has now?
Its REALLY simple, so Ill spell it out for you. If you don't like a level game (IE: 1 to X) then don't play it and play something like EVE/Darkfall
If you don't like skill based games, then you just don't like MMO's and you are trying to like something you just don't. EVERY MMO has a grind, especially the level based games.
Not to mention, the game has been out what... 2 weeks? And there are already many people who are 40+? Wow - that's some grind. A month to get to level cap (as a hardcore player) and a 3 months as a casal. Seriously just stop failing and shut it - Im so fucking tired of these posts every god damn day.

I'm sorry that people think there is a grind but I am curious as to what games you come from. The "grind" or leveling in Aion is very easy. I hit 29 in one day, with a good part of that just helping on lower lvl and relatively no xp quests and am over 25% into 31 the next day. So seriously what easy games are you coming from?
As far as catering to pvp, it doesn't cater to pvp. stop that. This is their attempt of mixing pve and pvp. Head dev said that himself, I heard it from his own lips.
It is not their fault that you don't like a mixture of pve and pvp. I do think the pve is a bit lackluster but it certainly is not as bad as warhammer's efforts in my opinion.
And as I've been saying for years. if you are a strictly pvp person you will hate Aion. If you are a strictly pve person you will hate Aion. So the market for this game is people who fall in the middle. There is nothign wrong with that.
This summary wins the thread.
And level 29 in one day? WOW, do you give lessons because its taking me a good deal longer than that and I'm only level 16.
Well, I'm just about half way through 30 now. I will definitely be 31 by tonight.
My thought is that perhaps people are going about it the wrong way. One of the things I've noticed is the complaint that there are not enough quests. Well, I have quests in my journal that are languishign because I'm doing other things. Quests come available as you level. So if you were in one area (now I'm not talking about noob areas) and don't have anymore quests there is a chance that in a level or two there will be some quests.
So I just find the quests in the appropriate area and while I"m doing them kill things along the way.
Also, the group quests or even group areas give great xp. And as people might know by now, I'm pretty much a solo player so I don't do groups that often. However, I've gotten 25% to even 50% in some group areas.
Also, once you get to 25 you can do the abyss. The xp is better there and also you get abyss points that you can eventually trade in for some really nice gear.
But players don't want to do the abyss because they are afriad of being ganked? Well, that can happen (had the entire nation of asmodae swarm down on my last night. A legion member who was flying by at the time said that it looked likee a flock of birds descendign ; ) ) but there are guard towers and you can stay close to them if you want. What I see happening is that others do the same and when someone is attacked they all rush to their aid.
To that end, last night I was close to a tower and a legion of asmos attacked. We had a great time pvp'ing and eventually were sucessful. Another legion member who was by another tower said they chased him down and destroyed the group in the area. But for the most part I think if you are not inclined to like pvp the abyss is the better place to go as the areas where rifts open up have no such protections.
In the end just play the game. I think players get too caught up in "got to get high level and got to get to end game". Well, if it is your personality to zip through and get high level that is fine. But if that is not your personality then you are essentially forcing yourself to level when you should just be doing what is at hand.
The game was just released weeks ago and people are crying that it is grindy and they can't progress when they are in their 20's or higher. Well, that is about halfway through. So maybe it's ok to take more than a few weeks to get to high level?
In the end the game has to capture your imagination or else it doesn't.
LOTRO has the same amount of kill x quests. so does wow. So do most other mmo's out there. So if people just can't get the urge to log in then perhaps the game world is not intriguing enough for them. Nothing wrong with that. But the game is not more grindy then other games out there. It's just that people are not being hooked and are forcing themselves to play when they are doing themselves a disservice.

NCSoft has been putting in more quests in every patch, and I assume they plan to for future patches. Mainly because they know the West doesn't care for mob grinding.
I hit 30 yesterday and it has been fairly grindy (mobs) because there are a slight lack of quests. But, I for one have always hated extremely grind (mob grinding) intensive games, but Aion feels very rewarding when you do it and I honestly don't get to the point of "omfg, this is boring." Also, every level I hit feels like an accomplishment as well. Which I RARELY feel in any other MMO.
This isn't a casual gamers game. Simple as that. It would take a casual gamer months to hit 50.

I agree with you completely... and sorry for my rude tone
I haven't been to this forum in about 3 weeks - I figured - I'd drop in to see "how things have changed"... and look - LOOK little Timmy... its EXACTLY the same as when I left.
People QQing about EVERYTHING - nothing useful. The same old "Aion is a grind" posts - that have already been addressed and beaten to death over and over... and yet... here's another - 7+ pages in... its pathetic.
So while I won't disagree with your point - and likely won't even be back for another 3+ weeks - its just a shame that the forums are nothing but trolls or whiney kids that wants the game handed to them.
amercan players lived through level 59-60 pre-luclin in eq1 (one of eq1's dreaded hell levels). veterans of eq1 will remember this.
and this is american gamers who aren't sposed to be able to tolerate grind.
here's a hint: 59-60 was some kinda slow. I highly doubt any level in aion will come close :]
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

I'm glad so many of you seem so content with mindless mob grinding. I personally can't stand to turn my brain off for extended periods of time, but that's just me.
I am happy for you that you will be able to enjoy grindy games. Unfortunately I think you are the reason that many developers don't even try anymore. They know that a lot of people will just grind away and never ask for more. They can even use the same mobs and just switch the skins and the same mob-grinders will keep on playing.
Its frickin' 2009. Has this genre really not moved past this by now?? I honestly don't understand how anyone could find huge mob grinding games fun... Its not like there aren't other ways to approach this.

There are other ways to approach this, that much is certain. But whatever, it is what it is. I don't own or run a game company so I have no say.
As far as turning my brain off, nothing could be further from the truth. For me, if I have a lot of mobs to kill I listen to music, get good wine or beer or coffee and just zen out. Since I also write, I have come up with many ideas and solutions to my current projects.
So then one could say "you are playing a game and you should be "playing" the game, not doing other things.
Well, again, it is what it is. The pvp portion of the game allows me to enjoy myself to the fullest and the pve portion allows me to zen out a bit, do some collecting, enjoy the scenery and sort of just "be".
The thing is that I'm sure you are right and there are people who turn their minds off. But then in general maybe they do this all the time. If one is faced with something that is not stimulating then the option, if you are inclined to stick with it, is to approach it in a way that is productive or useful.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

What (may I ask) is YOUR solution then?
You seem to have it all figured out... let me break it down like this
If you make a game where the cap is so easy to obtain you get nothing but QQ on the forums such as "I am top level and there's nothing to do - this game is boring, the developers should have put more time in making the game longer or give us end game". This game is for noobs - weaksauce - blah blah...
If you make a game "too hard" (which btw I don't think Aion is).... and before I get flamed Im saying "hard" as in "too grindy" - people like you still complain saying it takes too long to reach level cap.
One could argue that there should be a nice in-between but IMO Aion IS in between.... It isn't as fast as WoW (all the same, I highly doubt there is much difference between 1-50 Aion and 1-80 WoW) and it isn't as slow as L2... its pretty much right in between.
Moral of the story? You cannot please everyone... if you find Aion is too grindy, there are a lot of other games out there. People are already 40 + and its been out all of two weeks. Yes, these are hardcore players but EVERY game has hardcore players.
This is a MMO. The reason for the grind is $$$ and it ain't going away. I have seen many threads about this subject since the game was in beta and still some people are in denial. Honey moon is over already? The only way to not feel you are grinding like there is no tomorrow is by grouping and having fun in the moment and forget you need to hit max level by next weekend.
You know there were some of us on these forums before the game came out that were telling potential players that Aion was just like any other Asian grinder. We were laughed at and called haters and told to go crawl back under whatever rock we came from. The truth is now coming out. Not that I like doing this.
It's not that the abyss is accessible only at lvl 50 you can go in it at lvl 25 you CAN do some dungeons, pvp, do seiges or rift to elyos/asmodians side YET people keep on argue there's nothing to do apart of grinding to lvl to max.
It's a grinder if you prefer to solo, yes you can reach cap alone but partying makes it much faster and more enjoyable this si something that I hated in wow if you partied you just leveled slower.
I prefer "grinding" over questing any day...I like going out exploring looking for new stronger mobs to kill....without following a quest line to do it.
In all honesty I wish Aion was more like lineage 2 quest wise...in other words next to none

I seriously can't believe these types of threads.

I won't leave a long reply, but I will say this.
Grind is fine with me, great game.
Have fun in WoW!

Its not like there aren't other ways to approach this.
they just need to tune the xp a bit more but its a great feeling finally hitting the level cap after some time
There are other ways to approach this, that much is certain.

BUT SOME OF US TOLD YOU SO!
