X rated Island in Second Life created to clean the place up

IhmoteppIhmotepp Member Posts: 14,495

What's the comment I always see about Second Life? That it's mostly cyber sex, either furries or some other sort of fetish.

Now Second Life is moving all the smut to it's own Island.

I suppose it's an improvement, but SL still doesn't hold much attraction for me, since there is no game. However, if you are looking for online 3d cyber sex, second life looks pretty well developed from a simple google images of sex second life.

    SL = Lame IMO!

More power to those that like it.  Different strokes for different folks and all that.....

Its a good roleplaying environment, if you're into tabletop stuff. Pretty much an open development sandbox, and people have scripted pretty decent dice, HUDs, and combat systems for it. They restrict almost no scripts, rendered objects, or environment tweaks. Its hard to sum up, but they basically just give you an engine and server space to work with and you have to be dedicated enough to build your own game. I enjoy it from time to time when I'm running D&D games with far-away friends, but I'm not sure I would classify it as a MMO.

Of course, half the people just use it as a glorified chat room, hence the excessive amounts of smut.

Interesting...  It seems to hold some attraction for you to bring a URL from another site to this one.

What was it the Queen said in Hamlet?...  "Methinks the lady doth protest too much." (Yes, I know it is a misquote.)

Such an arbitrary mandatory division of the user base seems counterproductive to the philosophy of Second Life, but very well....

I don't think it will devide the user base. I think it will relocate it. Everyone will move to the X rated area and leave the rest of the game an empty wasteland full of random junk that nobody ever looks at anymore (which is what a pretty large majority of the game already looked like).

Lol an x-rated island. Nothing wrong with the idea but it does sound funny.

We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.

Mow the young 'uns can go and play with their marbles and virtual ipods while the grown ups migrate. Although I doubt it will keep adults from mingling with the young 'uns. Meh.

The thing about SL is its performance,  I've yet to see it run on any machine (let alone mine) with a decent frame rate.

The second problem was that everywhere you go there was sex plasterd all over the place...  moving it to one island wont stop it either because your own model can still do sexy things, and where you see a large gathering of people you will hear and see the familiar tones.

Yea, not a product worth anything really, but it does shove all those freaks into one place, god help us if they should ever try move to a real mmo.

Well, they moved. I know of one club owner that said she was forced to close as traffic died. Met her at a bublic sandbox before the move, not at her club lol

Anyway, is sl all about sex? Well ther is/was a lot of it. But what is left in non-adult areas since the move is mainly Gor and prostitution (they call "escorts", though dress like hookers anyway you paint the word). Gor sims are cracking down to keep sex-slave stuff out of sight, out of mind, so to not loose their status (no pun intended ;) ).

As for finding "game" you probably would need to join up with the more established RP groups.  ...or play Tiny Empires if RP isn't your thing lol

There is probably at least one well established RP group for just about any interest, along with sims to play in which you may wind up spending your entire sl time in (I HATE the mainland :D ). Some off the top of my head are Victorian era (my pref area with tall ships), goth-werewolf-vampire, auto/motorcycle racing, sailing clubs, Alice in Wonderland, Steampunk, High fantasy, Star Wars, Star Trek, the list just goes on and on with active groups that have some "game" going.

M59, UO, EQ1, WWIIOL, PS, EnB, SL, SWG. MoM, EQ2, AO, SB, CoH, LOTRO, WoW, DDO+ f2p's, Demo’s & indie alpha's.
