It looks to me like everyone and his mother will play a fuckin` Asmodian.
Not good in a faction war based game.
Does NCsoft has any system in place that will balance the Elyos population vs the Esmodian on any given server?

Yes, it's called the character creation button.
It allows you to create beautiful Elyos characters like this one.
I Don't think the faction imbalnce will be as bad as you think. I agree with above, the Elyos look of beauty is so amazing with the graphics im sure it will attract a large following.

Actually in CB6 there were a couple servers where Elyos outnumbers Asmo pretty badly. I think the balance will work out.
Also, people who like the lore might decide they like the Elyos side more. I usually am not into lore but I read both "books" on the Aion site and its awesome how they made each side looks justified, including the interesting twist with what causes the huge battle that each side has a different view of it.
Well, Elyos are dumb. That's why nobody wants to roll one.
Argh
Ah! And I heard somewhere that they will prevent logins to a faction if they drastically outnumber the other.
Argh
Asmodians have the gothic appeal going for them. I do forsee most servers being Asmodian populated at this point in time.
I read something along the lines where character creation can be disabled on specific servers where the quota for Elyos or Asmo are already at their limit or too unbalanced.
This is what I was getting at.
It`s needed imo.

Completely agreed. This is something any multi-factioned game should really adapt.

I want to play a Valkyria!
Hey Benjola,
I think there are a few things that you should know. first of all, the Balaor (sp) is their system to balance any imbalances. If there are too many of one side or other the balaor will fight the side that is overpowered. I have yet to see this work but that is what the devs have said.
Secondly, though it "seems" that many will roll asmo, suring the closed beta tests this did not see the case. in addtion, it seemed that a lot of asmos were complaining the elyos where coming into their territories full force and many asmos were not organized or prepared.
This is not to say that there won't be extremely good asmo groups. But the complaining on the boards seems to lean towards eitehr more elyos or more organized elyos.
Because of these factors I'm not very concerned.

I did a little quick count the other day on the Guild Recruiting page and and out of the 23 actual Guild recruiting (not looking at NA/EU) of 25 posts 17 of them listed Elyos and 8 listed Asmodian. Which is why I started looking for Asmodian Guilds and started researching different Asmodians.
Since I was writing the above I decided to count again and... of the current 25 13 say Elyos and 5 say Asmodian. Again this is just on their Title and 7 of them say nothing other than the guild name.
I played Elyos during the CB and really liked them but I never really got to Abys lvl only reached 21.
Why?
All I can say is play both as each group is equally fun to play!
I haven't completely decided which way I want to roll just yet. In almost every faction game I've ever played I have stuck with the "good guys" because I just can't bring myself to do otherwise. I'm somewhat leaning towards Asmodian here, though, because of the amazing writing in the lore. Never have I seen the line between good and evil blurred so well in an MMO. Granted, the look of each faction says a lot more, but even that is handled well in the writing. Very well done.

I'm pretty much the same way. I really enjoy a lot of the asmodian look, feel, and lore, but I can't bring myself not to play the Elyos. In many ways I'm starting not to see them as the "good" side rather than in physical manifestations of dark and light. The Elyos didn't want to agree on peace and also seem to take their land for granted. I joined a legion I really enjoy though, so I'll definitely be playing Elyos on release.
This is the very reason I haven't joined a legion yet. I want to see the two factions up close and personal, see how the quest dialog and the overall feel of each land resonates in-game. I missed the last CBT by 2 days, so I'll have to wait until Sept. 6th to experience it firsthand.
I also feel like, according to the lore, the Elyos are the ones in the wrong. The entire reason the Tower of Eternity shattered was because they failed to defend their end of it, and even the Elyosian lore supports that fact. I personally can't stand arrogance, and that seems to be one of their defining characteristics as a race since there really doesn't seem to be any grounds for their conceit. If anything, the Asmodians should have more pride since they've managed to survive in such harsh conditions (another reason I'm attracted to them as a factional choice).

At the same time though, I feel as if I can play a character on the Elyos side that is seperate from the ignorance of his surrounding culture basically as one who renounces the past actions of his country. It's something that I could very similarly feel living in the US. How often in a JRPG do you find yourself having to go against the grain? I think that's something I'd be ok with doing coming from the RPing perspective.
Edit: I still love some of the Asmo high-level armor sets though >.<
I have only one potential problem with going against the grain: whether or not everyone else is. If most of the population is fitting comfortably into the RP structure provided by the lore, I would be happy to play the "enlightened" character. However, if every Tom, Dick and Harry decides he wants to be a rebel, there's really no set structure anyway and it defeats the whole purpose.
That's not to say that your decision is as radical as some. In fact, I would imagine most of the Elyos community (NPC and PC combined) feeling the same way about the failure to defend their side of the Tower, for example. I think it's interesting to note also that certain classes follow the same Empyrean Lord, regardless of which side of the world you live on. I also think it is pretty indicative of their character that the Asmodian lore, though despising the Elyosians for allowing the Balaur access to the Tower and failing to defend their end, still show respect for the two who sacrificed themselves to save the Tower.
NOTE #1: I realized just after finishing this post that referring to the defenders of the Tower as it stood intact as Elyosians and Asmodians is incorrect; I'm actually talking about the predecessors to the two separate factions.
NOTE #2: I also want to note that although I use much of the lore to decide how I will make my own decisions and play my character, I understand that most of the other people I encounter will not be doing the same. In fact, I expect most people will be playing the faction that just looks the coolest to them or at least which side seems lacking, both of which are fine.
