Next Major Patch "quite a ways away"

Tyren posted this to the WoW General Boards today:

We'll have more info on Plainsrunning when we are closer to the next major patch. (Which is still quite a ways away.)"

Considering Tigole's post from yesterday about upcoming additions (some of which are pretty major, including hunter and paladin talents), and open beta will not likely begin until some of those changes/additions are in, it looks like open beta might be some time coming.

But let's just hope "quite a ways away" ends up being sooner than "soon".  And if not, Guild Wars in just over a week.  =)

Well, the word "quite" by itself has roots in ancient Latin and is generally defined as being "many".

The term "a ways", despite common belief, comes from the Gaelic slang-term for "farginas", or "fargin" in some cultures. Commonly known in modern times as "freakin".

The final word, "away," can be traced as far back as the Sumerian dynasties. The god Anu, once beseached an unknown prophet and spoke of a period of time between the rising and falling of the moon. Currently, the best known translations of this word is "awauikus", which means "half of a god's night", or one half of the waning and waxing of the moon. This word has been changed and adapted since that time and now means "away".

So, basically that means "many freakin halves of a god's night".

I guess that means we better pray.

Well let's see, we know that "Open Beta signups coming soon!  More details in the days ahead" means at least 12 days.  So based on that, I would say that "quite a ways away" means at least a month.

It might say the next major but that could be a patch before retail or a patch in the middle of OB we dont know. OB might be right around the corner so lets wait and see.

I hope that they drop the next patch and open up Open beta at the same time while keeping the closed beta relagated to their own servers so that they can test the talents, higher end content, as well as "crosses fingers" the other warlock pets. The new lower quests can be throughly tested by open so the Devs can kill two birds with one stone as well as keep the public (you and me) happy::::02::

    To each their own.

I wonder if the OB will be like many of the recent open betas and only run for 10-14 days prior to release? If thats the case, open beta is probably several weeks away.

Well... If "Soon" has been 2 weeks since stated, I would assume "quite" would mean, ... 3 years?

    As found on dictionary.com:
    quite adv.

    1. To the greatest extent; completely: quite alone; not quite finished. See Usage Note at perfect.
    2. Actually; really: I'm quite positive about it.
    3. To a degree; rather: quite soon; quite tasty.

So let us review the sentences
Which is still completely a ways away.
Which is still Actually a ways away.
Which is still rather a ways away.

Now that should help. Or maybe not casue there still is absolutely no time frame. Just obscurity.
