Hello everyone,
I have a dilemna I want you guys to help me with. There are 3 games coming out in September that I am interested in, but I cannot decide which to play, so I want you guys to help me decide which to play.
I have played every single mmorpg ever released in NA, some of the games I enjoyed a lot are Everquest I & II, Vanguard, LOTRO, Horizons. Some of the games I completely hated would be WoW, FFXI, Lineage.
I am an achiever and I like to experience a lot of things in mmorpgs, I love PvE, PvP, crafting, playing the market, grouping and soloing, I always need to be able to have open options because I get bored easily of doing the same thing over and over.
So the 3 games I am interested in are Champions Online, Fallen Earth and Aion. I will give you the good and the bad of these games imo, I have not played them long enough to decide, so I would appreciate getting the opinions of people who actually played the games, and not just fanboys who like the screenshots.
Champions Online:
Good: Highly customizable hero in terms of looks and powers, different from the typical mmorpgs
Bad: I played it for 3 days, got to lvl 25 (max lvl is 40) with no difficulty whatsoever, feels ,more like a single player action console game than an mmorpg.
Fallen Earth:
Good: A ton of different things to do, reminds me of hardcore everquest gameplay (which is good to me), I like the setting
Bad: Graphics and movement are very clunky (don't see very natural), I think that it will not have a huge community and if they open a lot of servers it might feel empty because the world seems very big.
Aion:
Good: Will have a huge community, will have some good PvP
Bad: Simplistic and easy gameplay (yes that is bad for me), the community might me very immature
So here it is, please help me decide, you can suggest 2 out of 3, I am willing to play 1 or 2 of these games, I am already subscribed to 3 other games, so 5 is my maximum lol
Please do not come here to put some ignorant comments, do not say any of these games are wow clones and if I hated WoW then I should play them, because none of them are WoW clones. I only welcome, how can I say this, smart and constructive opinions.
Thank you

The only one that should be able to help you decide is you yourself, or very close friends that know you up close and personal.
I would suggest that when you have the time and can get acces to beta/trial/demo to try them out for some time and make up your own mind in what YOU might like about these games.
Since you like pvp and pve than i would suggest Aion. From what i read, never play those 3 that you mention, Aion end-game will be pvp and pvp in order to get to pve content.
Personally i think its quite a good idea, adds more dimensions to end-game rather than just purely pve or pvp...

Did you play Ultima Online?
No game will be perfect these days. The old days of hard challenges and great achievements have been dropped in order to appeal to the simplistic masses of casual gamers, which is unfortunate for the mmorpg genre.
That said, why do you have to play an MMORPG to begin with? There are a number of multiplayer and single player games coming out soon that are worth playing... just stick with those until a good mmorpg comes along. Also final fantasy will have another mmorpg coming out, theres Guild Wars 2, and Earthrise. Essentially why waste time on mmorpgs you are not sure of when there are some upcoming ones that might be better, and, in the interim there will be some great single and normal multiplayer titles.
CO is not that great, Fallen Earth isnt all that impressive (might change given time and patching), and Aion is just another casual game for the masses (probably the best out of those 3).
If you really want achievements and challenges in an mmorpg, just play EVE. Otherwise, wait.
@ Recklaw
I know I have to make my own decisions, but what I am expecting here is opinions from people who have actually played these games in betas long enough to give me their insight.
@ Eyro
I played UO, but unfortunately, the graphics are so outdated to me now that I would not enjoy the game.
@ Raben
I understand where you're coming from, but I do not enjoy games that have an ending, or games that I know that I will achieve things in a matter of minutes or hours.
I tried a trial of Eve a while ago, I did not like it, the reason is that I did not feel attached to anything in the game, maybe because you don't have your own hero you are finding gear for and leveling, I know you have your ''captain'' or whatever and your ships and stuff, but it's not the same.
I work hard, I have my gf I take care of, I have friends I go out with, but during the week, I like to take an hour or two a night to just relax alone and play an mmorpg, a game that does not have to end.
But I do appreciate your opinion and understand what you're trying to tell me.
Guys, if you got any suggestions about maybe older games that became better with time, don't hesitate to suggest them. But do not suggest games that are too outdated please
Let's say 4-5 years ago is the furthest I can go.
Peace
Champions has RMT's so I would avoid that.
Fallen earth looks promising.
Aion will be far more polished as it has been out for ages in the east. I would pick that by default. Then if you are unhappy a couple of months down the line you can check out the other two again, see what people are saying.
Just be careful you are not feeling entitled to feedback, its a common message that sometimes often, unintentionally gives with these kinds of topics.
The fact that you are having trouble finding a game you want to play is merely an indicator of the low quality of games that are coming out soon. When WoW came out, it was pretty much a no brainer. There are no must play great games coming out anytime soon. Some might suggest Aion as one of them, but while its certainly polished... the asian thing just isnt for everyone.
That said, why not just spend $50 and get the Guild Wars trilogy? There is no monthly cost and its still a very active online rpg. Also some upcoming single player games will not have endings unless you choose to stop playing, many have or will have mod communities constantly adding to them. Its a shame you are not really into space games...singleplayer games like X-3 will absorb just as much time as any online rpg can.
There is also WoW still, its not going anyway any time soon. Again Guild Wars (the entire set) can be picked up for the normal price of one game (and will last you awhile until a better mmorpg comes out). Have you tried your hand at WAR or AoC? Some people still love those games. You can also try your hand at a free title that also isnt going anywhere, Perfect World.
It takes time to find your place in EVE world but you can make up reputation and occupation suited to your very own.
EVE is heavily based on player interaction and therefore the immersion does not come from how you look but how other people see you.
He has listed that he hates, WoW, FF:XI, and Lineage. He said that he likes, EQ 1 and 2, Vanguard, LotRO, and Horizons. Firstly, which of the later games is a "pure copy" of which of the former? I personally haven't been able to decipher the combination that you are refering to here. All of the games that he hates, seem to be substantially different from the ones that he likes. Also, I would much appreciate your rational on the matter.
Secondly, assuming that you've found your copies, how does this, in any way mean that he is beyond "smart and constructive answers."? It seems to me that constructive criticism is only pointless against those who are too belligerent to change their opinions, and unless I'm mistaken this thread was started in the pursuit of advice. Certainly not the actions of a bullheaded man.
I remember from your previous posts that you have a certain... affinity for WoW, and that you think that all other games suck. As a matter of fact, most of your posts consist of calling people who don't like WoW idiots. Again, you've found someone who has said that he hates WoW, and you immediately jump to calling him stupid. Seems to me that you are the one that is not worth arguing with. So, if you've collected a coherent argument, I'd more than appreciate if you talked me through your opinions logically.
First rule of an argument, make sure that your final opinion is at least equivalent to the sum of it's parts.
I also agree that it is incorrect to label LOTR as a WoW clone. I am sorry but you just cant argue that it is logically. I do think that some of the direction and features found in LOTR might have been influenced by WoW slightly, but turbine has shown they are too cocky...or rather, self decisive to do any form of clone based design. Personally I think Turbine is a terrible developer, their recent titles are sub par games running on even worse engines which rely purely on franchise name and setting to sell.
I haven't played CO, since i can't get it to work on my computer, but i've played FE and Aion..
I coudn't get immersed in FE, it was bad GFX and movement was heavy and chunky, and also i lagged bad on a beast of a computer.. Which put me off, the overall idea of FE is awesome, it could have been done better though imo.
That's why i picked Aion, and as it have been said plenty of times before, it doesnt really bring alot of new things to the table, but it definitly brings what i need from an mmo.. So this was my choice..
Since i havent played CO i cant really say anything about it at all, except from what you tell me, you said that you hit lvl 25 in a short amount of time, and for you it felt like a single player action game, makes me wonder how long it could keep your attention...
Anyway, i was in same position as you and ended up deciding on Aion, you can atleast try Aion for Open beta, and when open beta is over, you can decide wether or not you want to stay there.. open beta should be announced in this week.
good luck hunting for your game.
Beazt
Try the AION Open Beta coming in Sept. It will be the latest version (1.5 ) and will be much more polished than the CB version.
Personally, I'd shoot myself in the leg rather than play any of those three. But that's just me. I don't have any first-hand experience of Aion and I hate so say this but it seems to be the default choice here. Its nothing original (other than the over-hyped Z-axis and flight), it is easy, it is grind, but its well done atleast.
Whaddya think of Mortal Online? I can't say I know much about it and I've only seen few trailers but it might spark your interest if you check it out. Then again, it might look good only on paper, like Fallen Earth did.

Really only one thing I want to say..
Fallen Earth has to be one of the worst pieces of s* I've seen in a long time.
It's so ridiculously bugged and brolen, it's not even fun. With the release date set in stone, there's not much hope for change either. Community might be nice, as are the GMs, but after numerous crashes, lags, invisible walls, missing items, disappearing npcs, general "jesus not again" moments.. hell no. Aion for me. I enjoyed WoW for quite some time until they released BC, so I don't have a problem with Aion being "nothing special". It's well done and that's what counts for me
anyways i went off on a tangent. I do think that Fallen Earth will patch itself into a better product, so if you like the concept and gameplay. Support them by getting the game, and it will become a better product. Chances are they have to meet a deadline, but still have to polish the game more.
I preordered FE today, I had already preordered Aion, I will be playing FE after all, I played it a little more today, and I think it would be the perfect game for me, it's got the EQ feel to it but with another setting and it's got a certain difficulty.
They pushed their release date a little to fix some more bugs which is a good sign. I always encourage smaller games that bring a quality product. I am actually still subbed to games I do not play anymore just to encourage them lol.
Guys,
Please don't derail this thread again, the OP asked for input to which up coming game will suite his playstyle the most. What he did not ask for was a flame match about current mmorpg's and who stole what.
Please refrain from the my game is better chat in this thread.
Cheers
