Lore / Conceptual problem...

If the Asmodean are located in a territory with perptual darkness and such ~ why not move up on top of the shattered Earth, where sunlight is ample?  Is there some key reason why they feel like they need to live in the northerly darkened hollowed area instead of on the outer rim of the planet? hrm..

My knowledge of the lore is limited, so it's possible that I have missed something.  I'm pretty sure that if there were someplace for them to go, they would have.   I have not read anything about the outer surface of the planet, but I'm assuming that there is nothing good awaiting them there.

Asmodians do it in the dark.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the rotation of their planet around their sun.

It's like how places in alaska get sun 24 hours a day.  It's all about what part of the planet is facing the sun during rotation.

If the planet is thrown off axis (which it was because it's falling apart), it can very well put a portion of it in perpetual darkness.  Elyos live on the hemisphere facing the sun, the asmos do not.  And it's their own fault according to the lore.  They can't move to the northern hemisphere because it's occupied by the Elyos.

Well, since global warming gets the blame for everything else, why not the apparent inconsistensy in a pre-release fantasy mmo world?

Yeah, there is nothing in the lore, that I'm aware of, that gives any indication that the surface would be inhabitable. The planet was created for living within. I don't think there is a lore consistency issue.

The "lore" is basically a ripoff of the old H.G. Wells story  "The Time Machine" anyway. They just added wings to both parties and made the Morlocks pissed off.

    I think you misunderstood.

Why not live on the surface above?  It gets light...

    More pressing questions:

How the hell is gravity keeping you on the ground instead of sending you flying into the Abyss? Are we to believe that the center of the planet has some kind of anti-gravity field?

When you're in the Abyss, which way is "up"? If you fly down too low, will your screen get flipped and orient you upside-down?

And appears to be a barren wasteland devoid of plant life, and open to the threat of meteor strikes (see the giant craters?).

Well, I guess the picture says it all. The surface looks like a barren wasteland. It may get light, but it looks like the surface of the moon.  Not to mention light is radiation. Mercury gets light too, but you certainly wouldn't want to live on its surface.  If there is no atmosphere it would make anyone on the surface crispy, rather quickly. Plants would certainly not grow, and there would be no air to breathe. No water either. It appears to be nothing but a big dust ball on the surface.  Clearly, there is no spinning core, so there wouldn't be a magnetic field to protect it from solar winds. It's not like it's an earth-like paradise up there.  There are a lot of factors that we take for granted that allow us to live on the surface of Earth.

Now, I'm not saying this is proof of anything. The world was created by a god in a reality that is not our own, so anything goes, but there are many possible reason why they wouldn't be able to live on the surface. Aion did create the world with the intent of them living inside without need for sunlight, so there was probably no need to make the outside habitable.  While they don't tell us why they aren't living on the surface, I'm guessing that it is because they can't.

Read the lore my friend. It's pretty good.

And Asmodians didn't choose to live in the dark. They just didn't have the luck of Elyos after the Cataclysm and ended up in the upper side of the planet witch doesn't have a star to illuminate their side.  And they didn't know there was another side with a sun and Elyos in it.

Because clearly in your picture, their are no plants or anything on the other side!

Maybe theirs no atmosphere except on the inside side.
