in Final Fantasy XI

Something that's been bugging me a little, when I go to buy some food/water I can't get info on exactly what that particular item will do. Same with weapon arts, I can't get info on exactly what the particular art does. It took me quite awhile to realize the dagger art wasp sting or w/e actually applies a DoT.

So is their a way to get more information ingame on items/arts/etc? Or do I have to keep checking websites if I want details?

    Buy a food item, and eat it; then watch your stats to see what changes happen!

    so trial and error is the only way?

    Best thing to do is to go to FFXI wiki and check what foods do what.
