Suspend new member registration to the MMORPG forums

anyone else getting the feeling they should suspend letting people make new accounts here? or change it to invite only by members that have been here 6 months or more? the spam botters are getting out of control, now they're digging up old threads from YEARS ago.

The spam bots are definitely on the rise, I've seen three today already, all spamming Aion gold sales. I hope these receive IP bans, for what its worth.
The real answer to this is more Mods, they need to get some insomniacs for coverage in the wee am hours.

[Mod Edit] people still come more then ever and if they did that they would lose ton of money you guys realy need to think before posting and if everyone is afraid to say what they think about the game without getting banned this forum would be boring as hell zzzz and no point in ever coming to it except for the 30 year old geeks talking about how a game will fail with 3 pages of text about the stocks and shares or some geek bullshit lol

o i know it was directed at raiz . it was bad enough when they spammed every new Aion thread/post but now its everything and anything. like i said its not even just the new ones they're digging up random threads about anything hell not even about Aion and spamming

and how long will people keep coming here when we can't even read the forums? and doesn't need to be permanant, just a month or 2. or atleast make the new ones wait to post 48 hours or something would atleast slow them, maybe enough for them to catch the bots.
and how would they lose money exactly? people could still come here and read the forums. or make it so new ones can only post in a certain area till the staff learns if they're a bot or not.
You can't suspend registration, that is unfair and will just create an elitist group on here that will just argue amongst themselves and push out any members they see as undesirable.
What we do need is swift, active moderation which has been shown this morning with two members running riot on the Aion and Wacraft forums. "Wangfu" and "WOFAN" have been posting for a few hours now, the same advert over and over again, making a complete mess of some of the forums raising two year old posts and not one post has been removed yet despite reporting or e-mails! They are at well over 100 posts of the same advert and rising every couple of minutes
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
it would be nice if they could get something going to scan for those sites when they try to post them and auto ban and delete. i mean when peons was huge in wow i had a Mod that would block and report key phrases.
You do realize that the OP was directed at all of the gold / account selling spam going on in tons of threads currently, right?
While I don't agree with suspending registration, the OP was not directed at legitimate posters.

So it seems no moderator is on duty right now, so your best choice is to report the violators and then use the option to block any post made by that person spamming the forums. I know it doesn't help keep them from buring a thread, but at least it'll keep them from flooding your screen with their message. Just have some patience and a moderator will take care of it.
One suggestion. To some of you who are forum regulars who have been here for awhile and some who might even be new. If you have any experience moderating forums - volunteer to be one here at MMORPG.com and help keep the forums clean of gold spammers.
This is a very good idea. Appoint us forums regulars to ban the gold spamming, and when the mod is back they can re-view that which is ban by us.
Of course abusing of the rights will remove you from moderating forever...

Suspending registrations would be a bit too extreme a reaction imo.
It's a sunny summer saturday; the moderators are probably at the seaside, sipping sambuccas, sunbathing and slathering sunscreen on themselves. Just have a little patience and use the block function, even the banhammer needs a little R&R.

Anyways for spammers, there should be a cooldown timer between posts. Especially if the every post has the same content.

p.s. a cooldown is a great idea to negate the damage somewhat. What we also need is a Rapid Reaction Force of mods. Sometimes reports take a little long to be adressed.

What they need to do is put a post limit per hour/day on new accounts/ip addresses. Lots of other forums do this, it's effective.

Best method? More moderators or just to keep on top of things.
