"Ubisoft will be opening a brand new studio in Toronto, Ontario later this year, which is expected to generate at least 800 jobs over the next decade."

"In the midst of industry-wide job cuts and studio closings, Ubisoft has announced plans to open a brand new game studio in Toronto, which is expected to create around 800 new jobs over the next 10 years. The move was revealed in a press conference yesterday, which saw Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty make an appearance.
The new studio will be getting quite a bit of support from the Ontario government, which will be investing CA$263 million in the project over the next 10 years, while Ubisoft will invest upwards of CA$500 million. Ubisoft Toronto will be headed up by Yannis Mallat, who most recently served as CEO of Ubisoft's largest studio in Montreal, where he helped produce titles for popular franchises like Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed.
Interestingly, while Ubisoft has said that the studio will be creating AAA games, the money will also be used to help in the company's plans to extend its reach into other media, especially film.
“Toronto’s unique pool of experienced video game industry and film industry talent will allow us to develop a team with exceptional ability to help us realize our goals for creating brands with universal appeal that extend beyond the world of video games," Mallat explained.
The studio is expected to begin operation later this year, though what franchises or games we can expect out of it remain to be seen."
