This is one class I never dabbled with. How is the ranger, is it expensive? I remember reading that somewhere but from what I ve seen of Aion money isn t that hard to come by. Also are they decent in RVR.
I played a ranger all the way through Lineage II and absolutely loved the class. Unfortunately in Aion they are rather underpowered and are definatly the most difficult and expensive class to level. As far as end-game PVP goes, they will always lose out to Sorcs in terms of DPS, but they have better survivability and can usually dodge a fair number of attacks. If you plan on facing off against sorcs in RvR you're going to need a lot of magic resist gear.
I found Rangers are quite fun to play. The only 2 things i found annoying is that :
1) Rangers have less defence/armour than a healer or chanter (to me a DD class should have more armour/defence than a caster class).
2) Arrows cost 1 Kinah each. Late game it wont be a problem, but early game it is costly to buy 1k arrows and head of to do 3-4 quests.
Appart from that they are quite fun to play. A lot of people would argue that 1kinah per arrow is not expensive, but i found it is when you start a ranger and use up approx 5-10 arrows killing 1 mob. It takes like 30-50 arrows when it comes to elite mobs.
I remember on the beta board someone mentioning that they can reliably take out every class with their spiritmaster except for rangers. Interesting to me. Maybe it was because of the SM's pet's lack of ability to fly, but interesting nonetheless.
I wouldn't say they are too expensive. Definitely have more expenses than classes that don't require regeants/ammo, though. I found them one of the more challenging classes to play because you have more strategic options with your abilities.
A good start is to macro the weapon swap key, since the game does not autoswap weapons based on range. Beyond that, it was just a matter of getting in the groove of what abilities to use in what order, at least in PvE. I haven't had a chance to check out PvP at all, though.

That's just my experience.
They're a glass cannon.
You can do a lot of burst damage within a short period of time, but if you're skills are down you're a duck.
