Vista has failed me for the last time! >:(
Simple question, can you run EVE with Wine (linux). I need to know so I can push that "blow away windows partition" button.
Thanks!

I have a friend who does that, so yeah.Though I'm not sure he uses Wine.

The OP just doesn't get it!
I believe they stopped working on a Linux version for EVE. Your best bet is windows or mac.
Or maybe not. My bad

I found this with a quick search. I am not familiar really with linux but maybe it will help.

Any idea which program? I just know of Wine, which seems to be the standard one.
I think, think, Vmware something like that.

Guess that confirms it, though it's dated back to 2006.

They must use Wine because I just checked for a Linux client and there was none.

I meant an alternative to Wine. There are a few other programs that accomplish the same thing.

Yeah I noticed the date, but the page was last modifed Dec. '08, so I thought it might still be relavent.

I can probably get VMware as well... Wine I think runs faster though....

Thank you for that link very much...
I think that helps tons... I was pretty sure you could - Wine is just windows inside Linux ... but I thought the off chance it wasn't.
Vista has apparently "lost" its SM bus and net connection... so I've about had it.
It is deleting as I type.. pretty cool I can run linux from the CD - and install it while typing online.
Windows couldn't even see my network connection
OP you do it wrong ...plz read here => www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp
BTW there was a linux client but the support to linux was droped
BestSigEver :P
Linux/Unix/FreeBSD/Whatever other flavor of Unix you want to describe, support was dropped about 6-8 months ago IIRC. I know it was dropped, can't remember exactly when... it was sometime last year.
You can still, however, run EVE under one of the windows emulators for Linux... can't remember which one though. If you dig through the EVE-O forums there are threads about it.
You could, of course, just install VMWARE on your linux box and run a Windows XP VM to run EVE under.

WMWare can emulate DX now..?
That's a good question... I may be mistaken. I'd have to go look up the specs. TBH didn't think of that.

I won't bother writing out the whole manual I'll just give the basics. You can look the rest up on the net. I've been using various distros of Linux on my primary computer for 2 years now and running EVE with Wine just as long.
You will need:
- Favored distro of Linux
- NVIDIA graphics card and 3D drivers enabled
- Latest version of Wine (recommend importing the official repo to keep up to date)
- Windows installer for EVE
- The MS Truetype Fonts package (after install copy fonts to you Wine > Windows > Fonts directory)
- Setup EVE to start in a Wine virtual desktop
That's the basics of the requirements involved. The actual steps will vary by your distro. If you get everything right, which you should, EVE should run practically as well as on Windows, with maybe faster load times.
