Eternum Online - The new Runescape?

ArathorArathor Member Posts: 92

Is anyone else playing this? A lot of ex UK runescapers seem to be going there after getting fed up with Jagex's running of the game. It seems to have a good community, and some really good PVP, too...

    Guys, with all due respect. This Eternum Online seems enjoyable, fun and exciting but I cannot see the avatars properly. They are too small for me....

    Do you have firefox? Try the image zoom plugin, might work.

    I like the Final Fantasy style avatars :P

    Not to shocking that a runscape community would find a game liek that any sort of fun.  Runescape was only fun becouse of the people i became friends with.  After i grew up i relised the game was being taken over by a bunch of snot noised brats who were spoiled rotten.  And the adult nerds coming in with there bots.  Yup rs days are over with and the ex-runscapers are every were, so its not doubt there in that game to.

    The forums show no activity at all. Are you sure it's worth playing and has people playing in it?

    I have a friend who works for Jagex in Cambridge and apparently they are absolutely shitting themselves that Eternum will be stealing their playerbase when it goes commercial

    I don't know, it kinda looks like utter crap to me. The fact that they're using Neverwinter Nights 2 Icons for their own class icons doesn't help me want to play their game either. Plagerism is one of my biggest pet peeves.

    Eternum Online

    I never play a game that can't make my graphics card temperature raises by at least 1 degree.

    I'm sick of people comparing these two games; Eternum is NOTHING like Runescape other than they both run in a browser (technically, RS runs in Java not a browser). If you look past that superficial similarity Eternum has alot more in common with EQ1 or WoW with the added option that it has open PVP (Anyone remember Meridian 59 or oldschool Ultima Online?). I'm sure disgruntled RS fans are converting to Eternum, and hopefully they will prove to be the more mature demographic of its userbase, but comparing Eternum to Runescape only belittles what is essentially a very mature and well-rounded roleplaying game.

    Their having account creation problems. I can't make an account and I'm sure other people can't as well. Best bet is to make an account in the forums and post about it so hopefully they fix it.

    I think they've closed accounts due to the flood of people signing up

    Edit: Actually, they are back up I just created a new account :)

  • BonemaneBonemane Member UncommonPosts: 353

    Yeah they fixed it today, finally. You'd think when account creation stops working you'd start working lightning fast around the clock to fix it within 24 hours, not 3+ days. Not only does more accounts=popularity, but that also goes into play when you're trying to sell the game or website.

    I'm gonna be online so anyone want to play with me, my name is "Bonemane". I decided to spice it up and be a halfing druid ;)

    I'll problably make a warrior class later with a new name I wanted to try out.

    Finally got into the game. Oh wow. Seems like instead of actually walking my guy does a lagging animation, doesn't seem like you can walk diagonal either. I'm having flashbacks of "Ogre Island" and its claim to be the "Runescape Killer". Funny how quite a few people were backing that game up as well, including Bluerose. My hopes are shot now.

    I'll play for a bit longer to get the feel of it, but this is already looking like a No Thanks =/

    This actually looks and plays like those games I played before and after I started Runescape (around the time Runescape first was released which was what 7 years ago?), which is why I was forced to settle on Runescape. Seriously though, are we sure this game wasn't made by people who were fired from the development team for "Ogre Island" or atleast those that made "Dragon Court 2"? Oh I didn't mean to wish the abomination that was "Dragon Court 2" on it. That taste is still in my mouth years after playing it.

    Hahahaha....... Man, I remember playing good ol' dragon court ONE. Whew, super-fun turn based, picturesque based RPG! Well that was before I started playing Runescape too. Well, both are based on JAVA, so that's one thing. Dragon court came out in 1997, so it was a good game and a classic to remember. Dragon court was a haven from those horrible text based MUDs, and Runescape was a haven from static picturesque games like dragon court, dransik...etc.. Those were the days.

    Good PvP? Do you throw Jpegs or PNGs at them?

    Oh man you just reminded me that this game resembles Dransik the most, but Dransik was waaaaaay better.

    Yeah Dragon Court 1 was great. I know I got a ton of rare armor and weapons, but logging in everyday and trying to keep it from rusting was a pain. Finally making it into the "Legends" or whatever they were called for high level players and getting access to your own special forums was pretty cool.

    I remember they hyped Dragon Court 2 up sooo much cause it was gonna be some 3d-ish semi-mmorpg and it turned out to be complete crap topped off with 80s cartoon sound effects! Damn was everybody pissed.

    Oh and to the guy that said something about pvp. The way you kill monsters in Eternum online is that you click their 2d picture from anywhere on the screen and you "fight" them (all it really does is show the classic red star when you hit eachother). So that should answer your question about pvp. People seriously are comparing this game to Runescape? Its like a throwback to the free mmos of the mid-nineties except worst, or dare I go there? A terrible MUD glamourized with a graphic interface.

    Um, I'm gonna go ahead and assume you don't know what "pvp" means...

    PVP = Player vs Player

    Attacking a mob != PVP

    Anyway, to answer the question: You can attack anyone outside of a city in Eternum, so yes, it has pretty good PVP.

    And I'm gonna assume you totally missed the point I was making. I was saying if thats how PvE works then the mechanics of PvP shouldn't be drastically different. RPG 101, the class is always open.

    And if "attacking anyone outside a city" is the basis for good PvP then this game must've blew your mind =/
