Killing those boars and bears is an RPG rite of passage. Its the MMO equivalent of killing rats with a rusty dagger in a single player RPG.

And as long as the combat is fun, then I don't mind. I do agree that the starting zone has about 1/3 too many of those kill quests.

Having just finished a few of the High House Maul quests in Quarterstone, I can assure you that TCoS has some of the best quests I have seen in a MMORPG. You just need to sift through a few generic ones to get there.

I don't particularly mind kill x mob quests but having some lore or story would be preferable.  Also having more spawns or a larger area would help.

However what is depressing is that the quest gives very little reward.  You get maybe 150 fame for killing said boar and you get 300 fame for finishing the quest.  Kinda a waste...  This is even more the case later in the game when you discover you can kill mobs several levels higher then you and get more xp for killing one mob then doing the quest running around looking for some arbitrary type of mob to kill.

Given there are quite a few level 50 people in the game I'm gonna bet a lot of them got to 50 so fast killing high lvl mobs.  You REALLY should also do the wanted quests.  These give a ton of fame although you will need help.  At lvl 9 I got half a level from killing one when partnered with another person.  We killed that nasty tiny tyke mob which is pretty mean.

I don't understand the argument at all. If it is boars, bunnies, wolves, super space mutants, dinosaurs, etc it is all the same. They offer exploration, kill, fed x, escort, assassination, wanted, etc quests in every zone. I think they did a wonderful job of making sure each zone has a variety of quest types.

That being said...EVERY starter zone in EVERY mmo sucks unless it is your first MMO. WoW, WAR, LotR, etc. The only thing that changes are the game mechanics which TCOS has fantastic mechanics.

I understand your complaint but offer a solution. If you don't want to kill boars what do you want to kill? If you pick some bad ass mob then what do you expect to be fighting at endgame? The badass mob will be just as boring as a boar after you kill 10+ of them.

BTW The reason I think they make you fight boars a bunch is because they are trying to teach you to dodge attacks. Boars are really easy to dodge so they are good targets to learn dodging on.

    I agree.

Hawksmouth is just an extended tutorial, designed to teach you game system and the world basics. It is simplistic and straightforward for that reason... hence no being whipped off tofight cosmicf happenings at L3 (!!)

I'm L30 now (2nd character and all) and I am still getting the odd kill 10 quests, but they are just ONE of the type of quests I am being offered. There is a lot of variety in what you are asked to do, and you are free to do or just leave any quest 90% of the time.

    This isnt LotR ;)

These days I look for Kill X quests.  No better way to grind up PeP!

And this games offers a lot in terms of combat and personalization.  The main "problem" is that you have to explore the system to realize this.

This game lets you run around and play WoW with different graphics, though to be truly effective, and realize how deep the combat and class systems are, you have to actually explore those systems.

Most players are loading the game up and expecting the game to play for them, and show them all the new, pretty things.  Unfortunately, it is difficult to design introductory content that forces players to explore deep systems and mechanics, while at the same time being accessible enough that newer players will not give up.

Well, as I advance I see that there are many other quests.

The mistake imo is for the starting area to hit you with so many of them, when they are in fact superfluous. It is not a great intro.

I will be sticking with this for the moment, because the game does have a lot to offer.

I'm not sure how this is different than WoW or any other MMO? They all have kill x quests and return to me. I personally don't  think there are anymore in this game than any other MMO, what they do have too much of is travel quests, back and forth accross the zone constantly or into another zone. I don't ever remember traveling so much to complete quests in other MMO's.

I have rerolled 7 times (I'm keeping my last 3) so I know Hawksmouth pretty well.  This last time out I got to level 5 and my discpline with deliver quests and only had to kill one rabid dog and 3 gophers.

Considering at lvl 4 I was fairly easily killing 2 lvl 8 mobs at the same time, all those low level quests seemed like a big waste of time.  It led me to beleive that the early game was not tested very well at all.   That horrible boat ride and the tutorial should've been skipable.   Like someone else said, I almost felt insulted being forced to go through it.  Boring races and the combat wasn't all it was cracked up to be.  Gear meaning nothing didn't help matters.  Only took a few days to uninstall.

WOW, WAR and AOC did a better job at the early game.
