    These maps have PVP right?

    Those maps arn't instanced right?

So we totally 100% agree then?

    Good to know.

    Easy as pie:

    Ishalgen/Poeta (level 1-10, doesn't have rifts): Channeled

    Pandemonium/Sanctum (capital city): Not channeled

    Altgard/Verteron (level 10-20, doesn't have rifts): Channeled

Morheim/Eltnen (level 20-30. it has rifts): Not channeled

Beluslan/Teobomos (level 30-40. It has rifts): Not channeled

    Brusthonin/Interdiktah (level 20-25+level 45-50): Level 45+mobs added in 1.1, rifts+dungeon added in 1.2, channeled until 1.2

The abyss (level 25-50): Not channeled

    rifts are "PvP gates".

Layering in a captial city would suck for shouting to have things made...
I really hope they didn't do that

I couldn't tell you for sure but when I go into the capitals there are always a ton of people standing at the porter and even more people standing in the crafting stations.

Yeah I noticed that too but I didn't check if it had channels, I sorta assumed everything did after the first zone was.  Which was a mistake I supose, but personally  I LIKE ZONE LAYERING.

At least in the areas where there is NO PVP.

Keep in mind the first half of the game 1-25 has no pvp, and even after that the PVP is contained in the Abyss zone, which I agree it would be stupid to have that zone Layered, and its not.

There is nothing wrong in my opinion with having the PvE half of the game layered.

    It just improves zone performance.

In fact you can begin pvp at 19 with the infiltration quest and rifts, these are outside the abyss.

you have it a bit wrong.  all those games are zoned, not instanced.  an instance is a 2nd copy of the same area.  an example in WoW would be a dungon, Deadmines.  there are many versions of the same deadmines.  however the zone (westfall) that it is in is not instanced, there is 1 version of westfall on the whole server.

EVE has no instances, each system is a seperate zone, but there are no copies of any system.  the same was true of lineage2, zero instances (at least back in the day, its been a long time) but there were zones around, that you never saw.  you could learn where they are (and use the spot where you lag a bit to load to your advantage) with some decent observation, but you never had a loading screen.

So all these games are zoned, NOT instanced.  instances are a new thing that helps give the "everyone is special" feeling to people.  everyone gets to kill kel'thuzad, whenever they want.  also it makes scripted events a lot simpler.  so its good and bad.

theobomos is 20+ and until now i haven't seen a rift open there in 1.0, maybe i just miss them all the time, but i get rift messages pretty regularly in eltnen. never checked whether it's channeled though.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I don't mind instances for crowd control, I just hate losing that open world feeling a game has when it loads in chunks and makes it seamless. Lately it has become a huge factor for me in deciding if I will try a game or not. I think I'll give Aion a try soon enough.

Feels like alot of games will be debuting in 2009 (if they make their NA release date)

I was referring to the common perception of what makes a game "instanced" these days. I know well enough about zones. I have built enough of them over the years... But yes, you are right about the difference.

Why would you shout for having things to made? Why wouldn't you use the crafting commissions interface and have the stuff made there? Or did you mean some other stuff?
