Tell that to the 90 man guild I was in that didn't have a person under 22 in it. Tell that to the other guild we were in an alliance with that was also made up mostly of mid 20 somethings with a few late teens. Almost all of them in both guilds were married and many had kids. Theres of course lots of kids playing the game, but there are also more mature adults playing than any other MMO. But if in order to feel cool, you'd like to call everyone who plays WOW a kid, I'm guessing you're probably teetering on 16. Because we all know, nobody plays WOW because its fun. They play it because paying a $15 fee a month is SO much better than using Facebook or Twitter.

You dont have to sign your post with "idiot"... its kinda obvious after reading your post mate.
Me and the wife are 36. We have three kids and they all play WoW. So does all their friends.
Me and the wife dont play cartoon games, neither do we appreciate cartoon movies, or play with dolls. Its just the way we are and what we prefere.
If you and your friends like cartoon games, thats OK. Heck, i saw a 42 year old guy who collected barbie dolls on TV once.
Me and the wife, and all our friends who play computer games, play more adult oriented games like COD, Quake, Crysis, AoC, Dead Space, EVE, etc. games we wont let our kids play for obvious reasons.
We did try Lotro though, but quit after a few months.
We played EVE for three years, being directors in one of the largest corps in EVE history, Dark-Rising, with 600 members, as well as building up our own little corp Satanic Red wich only had like 200 members, but was still very fun.
Oh, btw, the median age was 29.2 and 28.6 for Dark-Rising and Satanic Red.
hmm most of the people i play wow with are over the age of 25, your just some chick whose burnt out on wow by getting her ass handed to her on a plate by a few 5y.o.s and has turned into a bitter Victor Meldrew... lighten up, go buy a new dress or somit
5 year olds...? I though you WoW players were older than that though...? Maybe i was wrong...?
And since there is no real PvP in WoW its kinda hard to get your ass handed to you isnt it? :P
WoW is a game that anybody can play. It's nothing special. It doesn't do anything better then games released 5 or more years go do. It doesn't do alot of things as good as older games do. I call WoW the game of the modern day gamer. It's a game without challenge. Everything is handed to you so you can level without mental effort or challenge. It's probably the best easy mode PVE game out there.
On a personal note i'm playing a much better game then WOW. Its called Dark Ages of Camelot. Yeah its older but its still a better game in almost every way. The FAILURE OF MODERN DAY games is in the fact that they try to emulate WoW. Veterans gamers don't want another candy coated MMO like WoW.
Right now WoW is the modern day model for the MMO industry and that in itself is killing interest in MMO gaming. Some us us want more of a game than WoW could ever offer.

So let me get this straight. Wow is worse than most other games, but gets the vast majority of subscribers with its subpar gameplay that is done better by every other mmo.
Also wow is killing interest in the mmo industry, but at the same time the industry has seen unprecedented growth since the release time of wow.
Interesting conclusions you have there.
What do you think other games are doing wrong that they cannot attract even a small fraction of wow playersto play their games? You think they have better gameplay, so all they really need is for people to try them out right? Or is it something else?

You'd figure since its so obvious to people on forums, that developers would forget all the lessons learned in the past and start making games like those in the 90s again. Why go after the millions of new gamers out there when you can all canibilize the ever shrinking group of those that actually thought MMOs were fun back then? Not to mention those same 500k are so easy to please and of course their lives haven't changed in all this time. They still have 6+ hrs a day to spend playing a MMO, are still single, have no responsibilites so they can dedicate uninterupted time towards what was always supposed to be a casual hobby in the first place.
If loads of new gamers want games like that, why haven't all these people started playing older MMOs? Is it realistic that people really don't want to play those older MMOs or that no one knows they're out there? Considering we have this thing called the internet, and any MMO is quite easy to find, I'd say people go where the fun is.

You are aware that there are hardcore and casual players of both old games and new games. There are people playing WoW that play 19 hours a day..

To be honest I've only just jumped in on this thread as generally as it's a magnet for ridiculous debates and with such disjointed opinions it is irritating to read. And this is an example of this, you're wondering why 10 year old games are not attracting new players? How many people do you suppose have bought Quake or Grim Fadango this week?

I agree, DAoC was a great game. It was once a thrill when people yells out through the realm "darkfall about to open/lost". We will log on our alts stationed inside DF and start the big ambush at zone in. When we heard news that our keep is under fire, we will dump all we are doing and log onto our alt sitting inside the keep, and begin repairing the door, manning the war machines or healing our guildies, scouting for the rogues ... The regular frontier patrol, or big zergs at the games are also intense moment of sheer thrill. Oh boy, I still remember how one aoe knocked out a zerg.
But gone are the days, with DAoC now largely a ghost town. Its meaningless to defend a keep when you are the only member inside the keep. Its meaningless patrolling the frontier when there is no one else to fight against. DAoC is a game where you need population at maxed level from all 3 sides to make a game. With only a few thousand population, and only a few hundred online at best, there is hardly enough to generate the action. I can still make quality 99, 100 armor, I still have some made on my alt, but who am I selling them to?
WoW has population, WoW also have variety of gameplay. There is no RvR like DAoC, but there are still enough action and fun for an hour or 2. Take the game as it is, and find means to enjoy it, or move on. DAoC is dead, WAR does not really improves on that, so there is no more DAoC type for the time being. Lament or adapt.
