Hi all,
Been away from the boards for awhile, I have concerns based on the videos I've watched in anticipation of release.
1. Animations. They look pretty bad from what I have seen. For example, in videos, you'll see a team/group fighting a mob, but everyone is just standing there encircling the mob. Their swords just kind of go up and down. Like there is one frame for raised, and one frame for down, if you understand. Like there should be some frames between them, making it less "choppy" looking. What is your opinion? I've only found one HD video though.
2. No wide screen or 16:10 support, is that true?
3. How much of your loot do PK'ers get to take from your corpse? All, random piece?
4. Lastly, leaving any anger, bias, and fanboyism aside for a moment, what is your honest opinion of the game currently? Worth $15 a month?
5. Actually one more, do you feel this is a true sandbox game?
Thanks in advance, hope to kill you soon in game

I havn't played, but I can answer a few questions.
1. Like I said I havn't played, but I agree the animations look horrible.
2. No idea.
3. All of what you were carrying is available to be looted.
4. Can't answer
5. From what I've read and seen, yes absolutely.
1. Yeah animations are bad.
2. No wide screen support, apparently it gives too much of an advantage. Which sucks as im sitting on a 24 inch myself. Hopefully something they will fix.
3. Full loot m8. U get three starter weapons that cant be looted.
4. Oh yeah.
5. Its definitely a sandbox game, im not sure the state of housing at release, there are guild towns and some houses, but apperently much more is coming in that department.

1) There is definitely more than two frames in attack animations. It's smooth.
2) There is support in that you get extra room to move your gui around in. I guess it does stretch, I'm in 1680x1050 and never noticed it until people said and I watched a few videos. It's hardly noticeable and doesn't affect me at all.
3) All of it except your starter weapon.
4) Already pre-ordered.
5) Closer than anything out there, I'm sure. I guess a "true" sandbox would let you build cities wherever you want, etc. But every city spot I've seen is absolutely amazing. One on a huge rise with only 2 entrances and over a huge area, it even has a nice pillar thing that's only accessible through the city(good for arena tournaments, I participated in one seen here, highly recommend you DL, it's well done.) There's another Alfar city that I've seen and it has a bunch of winding land bridges that go all over the place and eventually lead up to the main city. So really, it's much better having cities set in place with the spots they can be built in specific for PvP encounters, rather than have clans building wherever they want, it would probably be easily exploitable as well.
agree with the ugly toons, the game can look ok with a good card and high res settings, but the character look pre eq1
I have been playing beta for several weeks and I will give my input to some of your queries.
1 - the animations are fine. They really are. They are nothing stellar and some of the other current games do have better but the animations are suitable for this game. Once you play, you will see that the animations aren't at all what this game is about. As far as the videos, I've watched them too and seeing it first hand in game is a whole lot better than watching a crappy youtube video. Those videos just don't do the game justice.
Now the graphics, they are totally awesome. The game world is stunning and beautiful. You can see detail so far off on the horizon and the sky looks very cool. You literally can see a mile in this game. Water doesn't look very good though.
2 - I don't think it has wide screen support but this wasn't applicable to me.
3 - pk'ers can take all of your loot but sometimes don't for certain reasons. Maybe they think alot of it is junk or maybe they don't have time to carry pick it all up as sometimes you just have so much junk that its a royal pain in the butt to mess with it all especially during battle and because it occupys your attention and puts you at greater risk to your surroundings.
4 - its worth 15 a month easily to me. I simply love this game and feel it could be a masterpiece if they had the resources to clean it up a bit more. This game is alot of fun and adventure. Its also very hard as I played alot solo but I also love the challenge. At times I told my wife that it might be too hard and cruel for me to continue and other times I told her it was a little too soft and easy. Its alot of ups and downs and I haven't had these experiences in a game in a long long time. If you are attached or used to the standard MMORPG than it might be harder to accept Darkfall. It truly is different and some things may make you bang your head wondering what the hell they were thinking when they chose to implement some of the mechanics the way they did. The more I experienced it though, the more it became clear and the more I could appreciate it as it really builds a very unique gaming atmosphere for me. That piece of crap sword or armor unit you didn't bother to loot off mobs in other games, you will learn to appreciate and cherish in this game if you are relying on yourself for your equipment.
5 - it is and it isn't a true sandbox. I say this because I don't think any game is a true sandbox. I also think Darkfall comes close to it than most or all other games. There really is alot of different ways that you can enjoy yourself in Darkfall but for those that feel they have to be the lone winner in this game and conquer all, good luck, because you have way too much competition to really have a shot of the ultimate goal. My goal is to have fun for my money and time and I know I will have this in Darkfall. I am so glad I got to beta test and see the potential of this game. I think its a gem and can only get alot better as time goes on and the money comes in. Even with some of the short comings, missed goals and lack of finishing polish, this game is way too fun and good as it stands for me to pass up on it.
Ive got a question.
Ive seen horse and boats mentioned. IMO horses and Boats in this type of game should NOT be the typical "summon them out of thin air" as they are in most games. If you own a Horse or Boat or House they should stay in the world and be vulnerable when you are not around to theft or destruction unless you make arrangements to have them guarded.
Is this the way it is in Darkfall or are they clicky 'summon out of thin air" things?
I'd be a little concerned also from the videos I have seen also.......I think the thing that would also concern me is it sounds like people are counting on alot to come shortly after launch (ie adding more mobs, housing, etc).......My question would be if the game has been in development for almost 8 years why isnt it there now???......And are people happy with the game as it is right this second or are they counting on things to come to make it better??........ Its your guys' money but from what iha seen i wouldnt touch this game for a few months to see how it goes after launch.
Yes and no.
There are mounts and boats.
The boats can be as big as a huge ships loaded with cannons that players can use to fire on... well whomever they wish.
Both are figurines in ur backpack u click and it summons the mountboat to u.
When dismounting from ur mount u can either leave the mount there or click it again to geta figurine again.
However, while ur off the mount someone else can hop on and run off with it.
Both the mount and boat figurines are lootable form ur backpack
And mounts can be killed while u are on them

It's kind of both I guess. Once you get a mount, you have to unsummon it by clicking the statuette in your backpack, the statuette now leaves your backpack and it is out in the game world as a ridable mount. If you do this in the middle of town, ANYONE can come up and jump on it before you do and just ride away. Now this person can get off it and unsummon it by using the alternate use key, this takes time, it's 10 or 15 seconds I think, during which time anyone can, again, come and jump on it and ride away. Once you unsummon it, the statuette is back in your backpack and can be looted if you're killed. Mounts can also be killed while they're unsummoned and then they're gone for good.
A buddy and I saw a Mahirim on a mount coming out of an underwater cave entrance to his city(that we just raided, I guess he thought we had left), so we started raining arrows down on him from a ridge and just as he gets out of the water and starts riding away, his mount was killed and we then ganked him. It was awesome. So back we go, through the underwater cave into their city for some more raiding. The rest of their clan must have heard we were still out there and then rallied because just then we see 4 armoured enemies running to the exit of this cave that their city is in. Luckily I guess they didn't see us, so we just crouched along the river bank that led to the underwater cave exit/entrance and they passed us. At this time we figured we'd better get out while we still had all our gear.
Great! Thanks for the answers everyone.
Sounds pretty cool, though no WS is disappointing. Right on.
Good answers by everyone in this thread, I learned a lot more about the game from them.

1) Actually the first 2-3 years there were only 4-5 persons working on it as a concept. Then they were bought/merged with the current company (Aventurine) and more people started to work on its development. In other words, I could say the actual development time of the game is arround 5 years.
2) I am not happy but satisfied. I am satisfied because it's a sandbox game, meant for pvp, full loot all the more so and so on, but on the other hand many features are missing or need improvement, bugs to be fixed, tweaks to be made etcetc.
3) I had watched many vids in youtube and I was kinda dissapointed. Suprisingly enough when I got into beta, the world was beautiful. Far better than what it looks in youtube. Toons/chars need some more work tho, but hey, I can live with that atm. Anyway, I'm just saying that game doesn't "look" so good in youtube, so don't judge it so harsh just from there.
1. Animations are pretty bad, but everyone knows that by now. If its a gamebreaking issue for you don't purchase DF.
2. There is no support currently for widescreen.
3. They get everything on your character except for 3 starter weps. I read you can change your starter weps for a price at an npc.
4. You cannot get a 100% unbiased answer for this question. Your best bet is to look into reviews of beta people here. There are also a few good ones posted here, but most is fanboi crap.
5. " Sandbox " is a feature and not a type / genre of a game. Yes it has the sandbox element of being able to freely explore and do what you want regardless of the story or plot . Actually I don't think there is a story or a plot currently implemented. There is just lore behind the races kind of like the fighting games. Watch some vids and decide for yourself if you want to purchase.

You can indeed go to a vendor to purchase the starter weapons of your choice. To clarify you start with only the leafblade, the other 2 must be purchased and all 3 can be traded back and forth (for a cost).
