Will Darkfall combat hold over a Savage player?

keolienkeolien Member Posts: 198

Hello, Im a current savage player. Been playing savage for a little over two years, and every since day one I have been amazed at the combat system of savage. I even played savage 2 for a couple of months.

My question is, Is darkfall as player skill dependant as savage is? I hear things about darkfall such as controlling your stamina plays an important role. But is that it? I mean in savage you can block and counter attack, meaning if you block an attack you are going to get that next hit off before your oponents next attack. Therefore, making combat in savage very player skill dependant. Are there anythings like this in darkfall? Such as; Manually parrying an attack? Manually  blocking an attack?

Also in savage, sound plays a incredible role for knowing where your enemies are. You can hear an arrow whiz by your head and almost immediatly know which direction it came from, by using sound. You can hear the armor chinks of your enemies depending on their armor, heavier armor is more louder etc. Does darkfall have such a sound system? Could I hide (ingame) with my eyes closed (real life) and be able to determine where things are and are coming from by utilizing sound?

If any current or X savage player that have had a chance to experience darkfall hands-on, wouldn't mind sharing your opinions on darkfalls combat system and maybe comparing it to savage. I would be greatly appreciated, thanks ahead of time.

A lot of what u say is very similar to Darkfall.

Id prolly give Savage, at least Savage 2 a leg up in the combat deprtement, but savage is very well crafted in that regard.

I have to go with only what you have said because I have no played savage. as far as blocking and countering, you can block but its not a quick move that you will be using in combat unless you run into specific situations. no counters. but you do have to press the block button to actually block an attack.

Sound will let you know the direction of your foe, but as far as distance it all sounds like its the same distance away which can get quite annoying.

Is the blocking ability an ability that also increases with skill-use or is it just a skill you get that stays the same lvl / % / or whatever you call it in darkfall?

thanks for the sound clarification, I had heard rumors that the distance of the sound didn't work, or it always seemed to be the same volume, no matter how close or far away you were. This is kinda bummer for me.

Also, dont give up if you get your butt kicked a couple 100 times before killing anyone. It just takes awhile to really get the hang of savage combat. But once you do, its the most interactive combat system on this planet( that I have played).

Savage is just one of those games that fell through the cracks. Not many MMO players are aware of it at all.

Its one of thsoe games where its vital that you spend time in the tutorial and practice arena. The recent combat updates have brought the players back and its beginning to thrive again.

It lacks a persistance world,  is meeting other players in predesigned multiplayer maps..after your game session anything you have built in it is lost . And i don't think the result of the batles there have any further impact  or consequences.

    ......

perhaps because its an fps game? what a strange thing to say.the OP was commenting on the combat system similarities, not whether it has a big empty world or not. there are rankings which are what the battles outcome is based upon.

Savage 2 is the mmo that isn't a mmo that I have always been looking for.

Once you play Savage 2 you may never go back to playing mmo's...

    Yes it's that good.

2 handers can parry, 1 handers can block.  its a Parry skill which gets better with useage.   in what way i'm not sure, seems like it always mitigates damage even at low skill levels if you hold it (it drains stamina) or time it right.

well It has no full loot , you don't loose anything in game , you don't gain anything in game. I would say it has anything to do with combat ?  You know you play  DarkFall to play an MMORPG not alone because of the combat ?  if you only interested in the technically aspect of combat then a arcade type of game suits best there.

The delusional sycophantic AV employee's / shills (trolls)  have to belittle every post that doesn't sing the almighty praises of DnF to the heavens.

They don't read posts they just react to them if there could be anyway to say what "733t doodz" they are for wanting a game that has nothing to offer but an empty world.

The simple answer:   Not even close

If the devs worked on the combat for a couple months you could probably see something very similar in the future, but my guess is the unimplemented and poorly implemented features will be worked on first.
