Blizzard announces Secret MMO...

All that can come to my mind is a:

World of Starcraft - turning Orcs into Zergs and Night Elfs into Protos.

- Oh but this game will be big, we're implementing Space!!!

- OOOOOOOO

-(*cough* we just copy-pasted SWG's space system just like the achievments *cough*) WTF who said that??!?!

- Wow... so how's it going to be? Any leakz?

- (throw em with the prank we did a few years ago... same screen shot)

*BAM* World of Starcraft Screenshot that was supposed to be a prank...

- OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO so "original"

- Oh yeah.... that's how we roll....

Back in Blizzard HQ:

LOL we just screwed SWTOR/SGW with the same crap we've been doing for YEARS... Man we're good...

Odd enough the gaming community has been brain-washed enough to fall for it.

END RESULT:

Blizzard wins and all the rest FAIL.

*Something I utterly hate but it's the truth...*

My question:

Why does it have to be like this?

Have in mind this is just a thought... I have no idea what the "Secret MMO" might be although it's pretty obvious that they're going to come up with a Sci-Fi mmo.

Why does what have to be like what?  You're angry that a successful company is attempting to continue their success?  Your post makes no sense.

I have a feeling it COULD be a Sci Fi MMO, I mean it would make a lot of sence, you know the fact that they would not have to compete with them selves.

Starcraft?   I doubt it, why?    They've said its not Starcraft like a Million and five times, but hey thats the best way to keep a secret, just keep denying.  I dunno, I just have a feeling that they're cooking up something new, maybe something a little different.

Maybe they'll compete with Hellokitty online and have an MMO you can play virtual farmer with!

    Harvest Moon MMO!!!

    lol?

At this point its anyones guess, I Just hope its not anything like WoW.  Personally I love WoW but I don't want to keep playing something like it forever ya know?

My dream would be a Fallout3 ish game,  Post apocolyptic future with a lot of open ended feeling story and a lot of things to do and places to go but everythings all sorta messed up and barren.

I dunno I really like that feel, but wouldn't that cut into a few new MMO's coming out?  Fall of Mankind or something?

So that'd work with your whole "Big fish eatting the little fish" theory.

Just so you know blizzard's warcraft 1,2,3 series have a fan base of 13.5 million worldwide as of 2008.

Starcraft franchise has a fan base of 35.6 million worldwide as of 2008.

Imagine a world of starcraft. Lol its the end of mmo as we know it.

Starcraft franchise has 3 times more fanbase then warcraft franchise alone.

I welcome world of starcraft though.

I have no doubt in my mind starcraft mmo would be an instant millions of subscribers on day 1.

Hes mad because what is popular polished and good  is NOT what he personally likes. That statement right there is the entire reason for all the wow hate. No matter what other reason someone might give you that is all it is.

if they did do a world of starcraft we all know (even the blizzard haters) that it would make wow look like a small time mmo :)

just hope they live up to the promise it would be a new franchise.

What do you mean you have no idea what it is?  You just had an entire converstaion with yourself about the past, present and future of mmos and how this game is going to do whatever it is you think it will do.

People have always expressed distaste for Popular things, I think however his main complaint is the effect its having on broadening the genre.

Back in the days of the 1980's there was a plethora of computer software one could purchase for their machine, before we had a windows explorer we had "File Cabinet"

Which was developed by a third party company to work with Microsoft windows 3.1, it made all the programs in an easy to locate drop down menu where you could select programs and run them.

A year later Microsoft had integrated that same idea into their basic windows program, and by windows 95 it was an integral part of the OS.

So here is his real complaint.

Big fish eat smaller fish that sometimes have better ideas, or at least could provide competition for the big fish, forcing both companies to strive for better content and hopefully a better end product.

When fair competition is taken out of the process we the consumer generally suffer the most.

    Don't believe me?

    WINDOWS 95....

    Believe me now?

    then you didn't live it

Whatever they come up with ... let us all kneel down and join in our sincerest prayers for it to:

    - have a large, 'boundless' world (or universe) without instanced public zones

    - be as RP friendly as possible with a myriad of extra things to do besides pvp and pve

    - be as immersive as possible, in general

    - have a realistic ruleset in regard to world pvp; free for all hopefully, but at least not restricted to certain areas and with REAL negative sides to dying

So pretty much how WOW is now but more RP friendly (non instanced-zone player housing, for one) and a little more EVE'ish on the pvp side and a little less focused on PVE in general.

... if the MMO is going to be of the proven recipe, that is. Lord knows what they have in store for us :)

Gogo Blizz. I haven't played your games for a few years now and I am really curious about this. In the meanwhile GET DIABLO III out, pl0x, so we can hack and slash to our heart's content while we wait for this mystery mmo.

Yes I admit WoW is polished and yes it's captured millions of subs due to it's popularity BUT i'll show you a little summary of what is done in this game:

At first you have to decide wether or not you want to DPS, Tank or Heal... Once you have that set you grind your way to up 60. ( This is if you do not have the Recruit-a-Friend system which provides you with an easier way to just breeze through these levels.)

After that TADA you get into BC, everything is new and awe-inspiring but the grind to 70 is a bit more tedious.

Wow... you achieved level 70 and now to NORTHREND!!! WOOOO

    BUMMBURRUMBUM!!!!

This is ooo awsome, i'm in Northrend and i'm going to be raiding soon and I can't wait for it.

Believe it or not the grind to 80 is just as easy as it can get but once you hit 80 the "hard" part comes in.

You have to raid and run heroics in order to gear up but guess what Blizzard just made it perfect enough for you to get geared up without having to put so much time into it.

Ohh this is awsome, now I can have a life... NOT. You're urge to get gear is so much you raid till you can't keep your eyes open and withing a week you're fully geared out.

    Now what?

You work on factions and professions which honestly aren't that worthwhile unless you want +27STR gems or 1,2,3,4 sockets, or maybe even for farming. You have like 23487263946293 gold which can only be used to repairs or a Mamooth which serves for pretty much nothing but looks.

Am I wrong? I might be or I might have missed something that changes it all... But I have lived this and it's not fun at all..

All I want is something different something where crafting is somewhat necessary in order to obtain weapons or armor. Something with more variety instead of the same old TANK/DPS/HEALZ.  A game where instances and raids are not the only thing you can do for gear. A game in which I can go into space and shoot down my enemy. (Yes I know i'm talking about a Sci-Fi mmo reason why I would love if Blizzard comes up with something a bit different from what has been given already).

CoD MMO. Activision has already announced they wanted to do it, hence why they merged with Vivendi  (Blizzard's mother company).

I don't hope so either. Unless they can keep up the vast, open and persistant world idea rather than some campaign carreer thingy build up out of instances. *shivers*

You could be describing EverQuest or EQ2  or Final Fantasy online

... I won't be rude and say "Have you only played WoW?"

    oh look I did!

    oops >,<

WoW did not do this to MMO's

You are describing a level based class based MMO, the very nature of it.  The formula is well established, its just take a normal RPG and then port it over to the online community by making each player take a roll of an RPG character.

What is so confusing or unexpected.

And here is why I'm being rude "Ohh this is awsome, now I can have a life... NOT. You're urge to get gear is so much you raid till you can't keep your eyes open and withing a week you're fully geared out. "

So your saying that after they get to 80 they only have to wait a week to have a life again?  You contradict yourself several times in your statements, and you really don't have a clear statement to begin with, I get the feeling you don't like the RPG formula as it is, which is ok a lot of people are getting tired of it.  I mean Final fantasy was an EXTREMELY popular single player game, I have a friend who still plays FF7 regularly.

I just don't get why your acting all indignant and like something unexpected happened when you got to 80?

THIS IS WHAT ALL RPGS ARE!  YOU DON'T LIKE RPGS!!!!

What crawled up your dark nether regions and died?

All I got out of your statement was "I want to play Eve, but have not heard of it yet"

Your point of view is listing off everything that makes an RPG an RPG and then saying you don't like it, and blaming it on WoW.

This shows your inexperiance, or atleast your lack of perspective.

Just say "I really want to play a Space MMO that has NO RPG related qualities!"

I'm just tired of people acting like WoW is crap because it follows the RPG formula to the letter, I mean seriously if you hate it for doing exactly what it delivers thats great!  At the same time, don't hate it merely because its WoW and blame all the reasons you don't like it on "Its WoW"

    You don't like RPGs!

Sorry for all you trolls out there it will not be World of Starcraft. Sounds kinda of dumb. Sticking space on a world. So lets try:

    Starcraft: The Universe

I'm not blaming ANYTHING on WoW.

Did not want to bring it up but what i'm looking for is something similar to Pre-CU SWG. (If anyone played it back then, they would know why.)

"Try the Emu" Although it brings back part of it, it's not the same.

    "When fair competition is..."

What does that mean? How has the competition become "unfair"?

And what does that have to do with this wonky thread? I fail to see what Blizzard is doing that would be unfair competition.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Ok now I understand, you just don't like level based / class based games.

Seriously have you tried Eve?  I hear its really fun, but I'm not much into space ship combat as much as I am more person type combat.

I played SWG pre CU, really really fun if you get involved with a good group of people to play with, but not everyone is into the gradual skill up delayed gratification feel that it had.

If Darkfall was not such a...  Mystery right now I would say you should hold out for it, but honestly I'm skeptical.

If I'm wrong and you don't mind the level RPG style, with all its flaws and its pros, there are a lot of other games out there besides WoW but they're pretty similar to your complaints.  A few of them have even less endgame content for you to plow through repeatedly until your blue in the face.

If you want to take a break from MMO's I'd pick up a copy of Fallout 3 and play it for a while.  Its what I'm doing right now >.>
