Diablo is still holding on heh.

Hope the next one Blizzard puts out does half as well as D2...as it has been a mainstay for a number of years now. Pure classic game.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

    Also, wrong forum.

    IMHO, thats a off-topic post.

The only good things there are The Orange Box and Warcraft 3.

    The Sims...

It's probably the most popular PC game series of the past 5 years and I've never played it.

I'm surprised The Orange Box even made it onto the list since the vast majority of it's sales were digital.  I normally don't put any stock into these lists since they don't take into account virtual sales.  It's really hard to know which game is ranked where outside of World of Warcraft and Spore.  And I'm surprised Call of Duty 4 didn't surpass War and AoC in ranking.  I know a lot more players who have Call of Duty 4 than those MMOs.  Then again CoD4 is far easier to pirate than MMOs.

And everytime I say they need to add more Sim to the MMO's, instead of "whack-a-mole", add details, "living world", housing and whatnot.....

I get shot down "WE DUN WAN NO The SIMS YOU MORON!!"

Yet, year after year after year, The Sims keeps staying on the top PC game list.

Ofcourse, a Pure "The sims" MMO would suck... Heck, I even said that when I heard they were making The Sims Online. The exact concept won't work well in a MMORPG system... But the parts of The Sims that keeps drawing people to buy the 183532'th expansion pack... They would work. If people wasn't so hung up on their "whack -a-mole" gameplay.

I wonder if this list shows we need more variety in our PC gaming

A pirate version of a Multiplayer game is somehow lacking in substance, because you will miss 1 crucial part of it, a CD-Key that allows you to take part (sure you can play with hamachi but that thing sucks major time).

But as you can see, people will buy Games if they are really good, just look at Fallout 3 but i am confused about Sins of a Solar Empire ^^.

BTW this list only reflects the sales in the US.

People are gonna be REAL upset in February.... Look what releases:

And let's not forget that The Sims 3 is due out February 20. Anyone want to bet how long that'll be at the top of the sales charts? Weeks? Months? Years? Decades?

I can see it now... "Ok.. all you games except Wow.. move down one spot. Let the new kid in." lol

That list was spread around by NPD probably sponsored by EA and Blizzard. For one thing it is hilarious that Spore is listed so high yet is was the most pirated game since launch 3 months ending 2008.So people were said to be buying it,yet they were not buying it ,they were stealing it.Availability of games is a huge factor as well,if people cannot see a game to buy, they won't be able to now will they?

There is no law that holds these developers accountable for lying either, they can tell you any number ,it is up to you to believe it or not. That is where these numbers came from, there was NO proof provided to NPD group. It seems VERY sketchy here,They all get their numbers from them,no question there is a big fail here.

Blizzard i know lies through their teeth, and SPORE by another sketchy operation EA /maxxis probably claimed all 5 activations per game as 5 sales lol.Personally i would not trust any list that provides ZERO proof and relayed by ONLY one company.

Want to know something even funnier?EA  claims it relies on NPD for it's sales reports? That is unreal hilarious, how would a company outside of EA know more about their sales than they do?What this obviosuly shows is that NPD can lie about the numbers to beef up hype and EA cannot be held accountable for lying ,because they are not the ones lying about the numbers it is NPD.The whole BS operation they got going here with NPD makes me laugh.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

LOL .. WOTLK beats everything else while it is released in Nov .. only have a little over a month to sell.

The list is pretty good. WOTLK is obviously great (still playing .. great game). Call of Duty is great .. i am playing the 360 version now.

Fallout is great. Sin of a Solar Empire .. i heard is also great.

Just a wild hunch but..... I'm guessing your game didn't make the list for October, November or December 2008?

Amazon tries to beef up the hype with EA and Blizzard every 5 minutes!  Their bestselling PC games fall right in line with NPDs bestsellers.  They must have a BS operation with EA and Blizzard too.

I sense that The Sims 3 will be the least selling of the series because people will look at the Sims 2 and think "The Sims 3 looks the same" and people who play The Sims arn't worried about every single new release. My Ex still played the original even though The Sims 2 was out because she didn't see why she should upgrade and didn't care all that much.

i marked the green games as good, because face it, can you really say any of these games are "shitty"?

i marked blue for subjective games. I didnt think they were good, but i know of plenty of people who think these 3 games were good. They were also succeses

and red is just to show WoW took 1/4 of the space on the top 20 chart. I think WoW is good, but since so many people hate it, i marked it in red.

the games on this list are great, i have no clue how you could say there were "many shitty games"

(also i didnt mark the sims because i never really played those.)

Hate Wow, love Wow. But you gotta admit, they are the friggin New York Yankees of gaming.

One day they won't be, but I doubt you'll ever see a string like that one again with 5 games titled from the same series like that.

I hate the Yankees, but I can't argue with 26 World Championships.

They don't get the numbers from the Developers, they probably get them from retailer like bestbuy/Wal-mart/Amazon etc.

If you really think EA and ActivisionBlizzard (lol) can never be on this list, then you are just blind, or lived under a stone for the last 10 years.

This list is flawed considering Fallout 3 sold roughly 4.7 million copies at release and is probably more now. I'm pretty sure WAR doesn't have 1.5 million subs though i believe Mythic/EA stated there were 1.5 million copies available at release.

There is nothing wrong with the list.

Fallout 3 SHIPPED 4.7 million copies for ALL formats(PC, PS3 and Xbox 360) WORLDWIDE.

NPD only tracks sales for the US.

There's a difference between having 1.5 million copies and actually selling 1.5 million copies.
