Seriously, how long are they going to keep dragging this out... turn the damn servers off!
This will happen sometime between SWTOR Beta and on or shortly after SWTOR release.
If the game has been running as long as it has... Then they are making some kind of profit.
Most of us that post here as "pissed off former players" have already been lost obviously. So when The Old Republic launches they can't lose us again.
Its more dependant on if the people currently playing actually want to move to TOR.. and they might not.
So I think its hard to say... Quite honestly I'm not sure I want to play TOR... (personal reason and has more to do with the community I'll find than BioWare etc) .. then again I still don't play SWG.
I'm just saying I guess that... if people are willing to pay for it now..... (its hard to say what will happen).
If LEC hadn't granted the SWTOR rights to another publisher (Bioware) I might agree that SWG might be allowed to live past that game's release if it were profitable.
But I just don't see it happening. LEC will see every sub for the NGE as a sub they are losing on their $70 million dollar new baby.
LEC might even pull it IF it still had 100K or more subs. LucasArts has not been known for rational decision making (much like SOE). Think of it in terms of the NGE, they had no reason why they couldn't continue to support the existing Pre NGE game, kept us happy, then opened NGE servers for the "target audience", but they decided to force us into it because NGE was the way they'd decided to go. SWTOR is the way they have decided to go.
But with where subs are now (and where they likely will be a year from now), it will be a relatively easy decision for them to make. I'm sure they will throw something in, like a free month or something, or maybe even some bauble, but the NGE definitely ends when SWTOR begins.
I'm thinking they may need to start herding transfers amoungst the servers. It's only day one and there are now reports that some servers (such as Starsider & Bria) are sitting on "Extremely Heavy" population loads...
You know that this only means more than 300 logged into it, right?
Pre-NGE a server would only get that ranking if 2,000 were logged in.
Where do you get this information about the servers only needing 300 players to register as "Extremely Heavy"? Not trying to start anything here I'd seriously like to know where you got that information.

I'm sure we'll see a big drop in SWG subs once SWTOR is realsed, but I have two words for you "Dragon Age"... when was that supose to be released anyways? Bioware has a reputation for making high quality games, but they live by the motto "It'll be done when its done". I'll worry about SWG when I see SWTOR on the store shelves.
Just to be clear I do play SWG currently and enjoy myself. I am also looking forward to SWTOR and think it'll be a great game. Best case for me is both games find there niche and prosper then I can play two Star Wars MMOs.
TOR wont be released for ages. so SWG has a good year or 2 to get back on track.
At least you agree it is a train wreck...as for getting back on track...they don't even think they have a problem.
There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity...Ignorance has the ability to learn whereas stupidity is the inability to learn altogether. Which do you think SOE falls under?

It's quite easy to prove you wrong through using the Search tool. In a previous post last year I made a post where I found 360ish people searchable on the tool for Chilastra which was on a Medium load at the time.
This is good news i suppose, its odd though, even though i have yet to start to try this game out (got caught up with real life stuff =( )...i went and looked at those servers getting closed down or whatever, its sad to read the goodbye's and stuff.
I remember when blizzard nearly decided to force split servers to ease their loads. there was so much panic and people trying to figure out some way to stop them, they did decide against forcing it luckily but in the panic of it all i and some friends transferred off, honestly it just wasn't the same, we tried to enjoy the new server but it wasn't home you know? anyways we moved back, paid the 25 bucks and have been happy ever since...bleh i'm rambling sorry, just sad to read this stuff.

Everyone said that the server hardware wasnt up to it and they've been saying it for a while now. What did SOE do to counter this problem? They released a TCG expansion, announced another one for later in the year and flatly denied that there are any plans for an expansion for SWG.
LoL Chimaera has been down for hours. No surprise there and as predicted by myself and others. http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?topic_id=823643 and there was a rollback AGAIN apparently. Exactly...the NGE itself precludes SOE from having servers with the same populations as pre-cu. All the dumb particle effects, the methed up speed of combat and just general bad coding mean the populations have to stay low to make the game "playable".

Yeah because that *never* happens from the pro-SOE side...
I'm not talking about "sides" here, I'm talking about an individual. Feel free to show me where I've posted a made-up number.
I just have never seen you make a snide comment when one of the SOE fanbois makes up numbers to make the game look like it's in great shape. Hey, at least you're allowed to make snide comments about other posters without getting banned so that must be nice.

Heh, I've had some warnings in the past so don't worry too much
Anyway, I don't see you calling out Wildcat on his numbers he pulls from his random number generator (or in some cases, random date generator)...so what's your point?

Probably because Wildcat's numbers seem reasonable based on my own experiences during the vet trials.

No surprise there, everyone trying to get off their dead servers I guess, so 6800 of people that has 2-3 characters per account, so maybe 3200-3500 at that time?

You can only do one character at a time. Once you transfer one, you have to wait 2+ hours while the transfer is processed and you can't be logged in on any character on that account.

Not entirely true, I was talking with some people on Vent, they were logging in 5-30 minutes after the transfer and most of them were completed, the 2 hour window is there to ensure it goes through safely but you can still log in regardless. One of the guys on vent said minimum 30 minutes but one of his characters was moved within 10 minutes.

good luck with that
