You should have had anti-spyware software installed.

As an active porn viewer, I have never gotten a virus from any of these nefarious sites.

My older brother got into a "God" mood once... you know, like born-again christian style.

He found my porn stash at one point and decided to change my background to "God is watching you. Always."

    Perv...

I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much.

lol you dont have any protection on your computer? I'm not takeing his side, hes an idiot for useing someone elses computer to look up bad sites. But anti-spyware/virus is one fo those things where you wanna make sure you have good programs, cause just visiting any ol site on the internet has a chance of infecting your computer, and not just bad sites.

How about Ex-Wives?  My ex came over the other day and said she needed to look something up on my computer.  Hell, I thought it was harmless.....

    UNTIL SHE CLICKED ON

That slapped all kinds of malware on my system.  I could have strangled her.

Then she says, I thought I was helping you.  ARRRGGGHH

I have two computers, one is mine, one is for my wife and the kids.

Their computer has that same message, the popup that says "Your computer is infected".

So far I have been unable to remove that crap. I have bought numerous cleaning programs, and none of them remove it. One of my companies IT guys at work had the same thing, he wound up wiping his hard drive and re-installing. It got rid of it.

He said the problem is that this particular mal-ware installs itself in numerous areas on the hard drive, and when you identify it, and remove it from one area, it will re-infect from another. He said he eventually got worn down trying to locate all the areas on his hard drive it installed itself, you can't miss a single one or it re-infects.

If you find another way, or a cleaning program that works, please, please, please let me know.

olddady, There is a way to fix it manually, I think.  I actually had to buy this software called Spy Hunter. Cleaned it within 5 minutes and found other stuff too.

Check this site out, I hope it helps.

    LINK

I wanted to add, that I have Norton Internet Security and this program couldnt fix it.  SpyHunter did.  The only issue I had with Spyhunter, is I had to disable a function that Nvidia uses for downloading updates so I could update the Spyhunter update files.  It was a simple turn off feature in the start up, so it wasnt a big deal.

Spybot couldnt even come close to cleaning that stuff, but didnt try Avast.  Norton couldnt even clean it.

That stuff that got downloaded was pretty nasty.

I tried Adaware too and it didnt work.

I ran into one this week, the tcp/ip stack was totally hosed and I couldn't get Spybot to even run. Spybots process was running in the background but it wouldn't come up. Every time I reinstalled it tried to udpated itself from 127.0.0.1.

Websites were redirecting like crazy even though the host file was clear. I haven't used Norton stuff in about 9 years, their stuff eats too many system resources.

Sometimes its easier to start over with a fresh image than try to repair since much of the Windows system has been damaged for a long time.

I'll check out spyhunter and maybe add it to my arsenal.

I had a laptop last night that wouldn't go get automatic updates at all. I had to copy 2 dll from my other XP system to it to get it to download anything. Now its fully updated to SP3 and working much better.

    Eh, I had that once.

Luckily, I was a trainee Technician at the time, and my Trainer, Ian Hancock, managed to get rid of it for me through a series of fairly advanced maneuvers.

I forget what it was, though.

Sorry that I'm not much help on the subject... but I'd be searching on google for help against the crazy "popup for adware and viruses removal" or something along those lines.
