Hmm because I bought it? Kind of like I bought the game and computer I use to play it on. It does not matter that I "earned it ingame", like that is some medal of honor, instead I bought it with money I "earned". I been playing EQ2 since release I got nothing to prove to anyone. Come to one of my houses in EQ2 and see some of the 1000s of items I earned. I also play with many people who like this idea. I do not see them tucking tail or bailing out of EQ2 over this. SOE is not counting on people like grandpagamer they are counting on players like me, who will enjoy this idea and buy a few things. So your well written response means nothing to "people like me" many of "us" people like the idea and see it in the future of mmos, in one form or another. I'm sure someone will post a well written response as to how I do not get it and am allowing the devil SOE to take over the world with their greed. I will save you the trouble, you are right! I don't get it. I simply enjoy a fun game called EQ2 for entertainment, so what do I know.
Would you feel the same way if 500 out of those 1000 items in your room had a real life money price tag put on them and they were not achievements in game? Like I have said before, it is in SOEs best interest to NOT give you ingame content and instead sell it for real dollars. It is not in your best interest to support this and yes SOE is counting on people like you to not object in the only way they understand.
Now you get to pay an additional fee to not play the game and that is enjoyment?
SOE could take a poop on your carpet, grind it in with the heel of their shoe and people would still find ways to excuse it. *shrug*

I do not talk in hypotheticals, what ifs mean nothing to me. Do not presume to think you know what is in my best interest either. Since nothing you say on this issue I agree with. So how could you presume to speak for me or school me on this issue. Nothing you say will change the fact I like this option. I do not see it with the conspiracy you seem to. You can try to enlighten me to your misplaced logic. It is misplaced because I like the idea. You are comparing this to SOE shitting on a carpet, what? I do not see the connection with that and SOE using an item mall in EQ2.
I have not excused SOE for this, I do not need to I like it, why would I object? My 3 dollar pet roaming my house is fun and I enjoy it. I had no problem paying 3 bucks for it. SOE did not put a gun to my head. Did I need it? No. Does it effect the overall experience I am having in EQ2? Nope. Is there any must have items in the marketplace that you need to progress in the game? Nope.
I would never presume to tell others how or what to enjoy with their hard earned money like some but that is just me. *shrug*
Come on over to LOTRO where fluff is still part of your monthly subscription in addition to frequent content updates added for no extra charge.
Unless you support other MMOs that treat you the way you want to be treated, SOE will get away with their BS.
_____________________________ Currently Playing: LOTRO; DDO Played: AC2, AO, Auto Assault, CoX, DAoC, DDO, Earth&Beyond, EQ1, EQ2, EVE, Fallen Earth, Jumpgate, Roma Victor, Second Life, SWG, V:SoH, WoW, World War II Online.
Games I'm watching: Infinity: The Quest for Earth, Force of Arms.
I've honestly stopped caring about SOE and how they do business. Not really worth my time now that I have things to do besides play video games all evening. I really don't think that the Station Cash is a "pure scam" as you put it. It would be a pure scam would result in giving your money to SOE and getting nothing, material or digital, in return.
Originally posted by Moirae Originally posted by Squal'Zell Originally posted by Moirae Thank you eccoton, well said and quite true. It never ceases to amaze me how MMO players react to any sort of change to their games. They behave as though its a personal attack when it isn't. Its just an attempt to make money. These games aren't here for any reason other to make money, just like everything else. Its like a hotel charging for local calls. Honestly local calls are free so why does the hotel charge for them? Because its just business and its about money. Nothing more, nothing less. And its most definately NOT a personal slight against their clientelle. I really don't think most of them understand the meaning of the word "scam", either.
i do think it is a scam, or bad business put it this way. you are alergic to peanuts a company says we will sell you peanut free chocolate bars in boxes, WE WILL NOT PUT ANY PEANUTS in them nor we have any future plans to do so. you say ok ill take 3 full boxes then. (the comany says that they will take the money and send you 1 box at a time to be sure that the chocolate does not spoil. when you are done with one they will send you the other) so you agree and pay them. first box comes, yay no peanuts, you eat it all, then you hear in the news that they have changed the plan to appeal to a bigger market who likes peanuts in their chocolate bar. next month you get your chocolate box (that you already payed for) but it has peanuts!!! and they do not make peanut free chocolates anymore... so you have now 2 boxes that are just sitting there that you can't eat. company has your money and they do not give refunds.
This isn't peanuts, honey. Its not a lifethreatening condition. Its adding something to a GAME that you don't like. I don't like PvP. In fact, I loath it. Yet I didn't bitch and moan when they added it, I just don't take part in it. Thats the adult thing to do. If you don't like nuts in a chocolate bar, are you going to bitch and moan because they added nuts? Or are you just going to stop buying the chocolate bar and move on? Its not like they just suddenly increased prices without telling anyone. They just added something that you don't like to the game. Something OPTIONAL.
CORRECTION: The actual "adult" thing to do when concerning games is to either A: quit crying, take off your little dress and play the game..simple as that. B: IF it really is a scam, then do what you would normally do if its a scam (most likely sit and cry about it without actually doing anything) C: Dont play...back away from the computer and dont play. little kids sit and find a place to cry, while actual adults just stop playing if they dont like it. Its that simple.

Some people enjoy smoking and I would never tell them that they do not. I'm sure we can all agree that it isn't in their best interest to smoke. It isn't in the best interest of those around the smoker. Simply enjoying something doesn't make all the negative aspects of that activity go away or unimportant.
If you enjoy spending money on content that you should and would have gotten for free, more power to you. If you enjoy giving extra money to a company that could care less what you think, have at. You know what they say about a fool and his money, just don't try to say the stain on the carpet is good thing though.

Just uninstalled the game, won't even bother trying to enjoy my last two weeks that are paid for. If you are not used to what public forums are like or are about, then get stop frequenting them.
People have every right to discuss why they like something, or don't like something, disagree with an issue or agree. It's called discussion. If such a discussion as whether this is a scam or not disturbs you, the adult thing to do is back away and avoid such a topic.
i am still, and will continue to play eq2. honestly, this has no effect on my playstyle or gameplay. I dont have to buy any of the crap items (yes they are crap items) nor does it change the way i play, very casually, maybe an hour or 2 every other night. Until it goes 100% rmt, i see no reason why this would or should affect my gameplay

you might never get any vet rewards anymore. and if you are max lvl good for you, but youwill have newbies catching up to you in no time with their xp boost.
unless you play solo in which case it should not matter to you, you are paying 15$ already to play a SPgame...

See now I don't understand that logic. You are not okay with games that entirely RMT based, but it's okay to have a P2P with RMT added in? Or did I misunderstand?
Because I don't see anything wrong with games like Free Realms and The Agency being RMT based if they are free to download. But P2P should remain thus and allow any and all items created attainable through regular game play without extra charge.
because the crap they are trying to sell is just that, crap. Theres absolutely nothing worth paying for that is essential. It's all nice pretty fluff, except for the achievement xp potion, which is pretty much useless because how often do you get achievement xp? rarely, and your rest xp doubles it anyway.
I feel sorry for EQ2 players. Either SOE break their word again and add stat items which will unbalance the game - or they continue to sell fluff which basically amounts to a tax on roleplayers. Neither of which is acceptable. They need to pull the whole idea while they can, although we all know they won't.

Well I tried to engage you in this idea but obviously you are so intrenched in your ideas that you have to insult those who disagree with you. You have done this in every post you made on this issue. You connect an item mall to smoking and taking a crap on carpet ridiculous. Then you use "fool and his money" because I do not have a problem with an item mall and have used it to get a house pet. So those that disagree with your ideas are "fools". I totally disagree with you but never felt the need to insult you.
I often do not do this but I am done responding to you. Not because of your feelings on this subject but the continuing need to insult and put those down who disagree. Just because you try to spin your insults into the context of your agrument, in a not so subtle way, does not hide the fact you are trying to insult because of lack of any real persuasive reasoning. It is simple either you are ok with item malls or not, if not move on. I find it foolish that so many waste time talking about games and companies they to not play or even like.
I talk about EQ2 because I like it. I do not talk about SWG because I no longer play it and could careless about it. However I do not think people are fools who play it. Item malls are here to stay and we will see more of them get use to it or find a new genre of game to enjoy because you will be surrounded by "fools".

Oh for gods sakes..... ITS OPTIONAL. How the hell is that "taxes"? Taxes aren't optional kid.

Ten Ton Hammer: You mentioned you won’t be selling “uber armor,” but what about armor or weapon sets that aren’t overpowering, as an idea for returning or casual players?
Bruce Ferguson: I don’t know that I can say yes or no to that to be honest with you. It’s an ongoing discussion here as to whether we could do something like that or not, and I don’t think we have a final decision. But as I said, what we don’t want to do is make 80 percent or 100 percent of our customers unhappy with us. Obviously we’re trying to give people a little bit of fun without impacting significant core game play.
Why be so naive to think that SOE does not have plans to sell items that are more than fluff. Even though the potions are more than fluff and the fluff items themselves were something normally added for free.
Yes they are planning to take this to the next level. Anyone who thinks otherwise is being dishonest to themselves about this companies intentions and history.

Wow. Thats so well said. I so totally agree with you. Frankly I've said it again and again, I hate WoW but I don't go there just to bash it like the haters do to EQ2. I talk about EQ2 because I like it, if I didn't, I'd just ignore the game. Its about maturity.

We agree Moirae, because like others have said here, we both work for SOE. I have read that said about you and it has been said about me numerous times. It has also been said that I am a viral marketer for SOE. Got news for those who have claimed that about me, I am a college art professor.

You are right Ecco, I got a little to personal and for that I appologize. Believe it or not I really try not to do this type of thing here as I know I'm on someone elses playground and try to behave. I will do my best to check my tongue.
Also It was not my intention to link this to smoking as if this is some cancer causing agent, but instead to show that there are things that people do enjoy that are not good for them in the overall picture.
You may enjoy spending money for content that is traditionally free, but that does not make it good for the game. My point is valid and simply saying "I enjoy this" doesn't make the negative impacts irrelevent. My reasoning, despite being tucked inside of snarky comments, is accurate.
No one so far has been able to show that it isn't. No one has shown that SOE handled this in a professional and courteous manner to their customers. No has has shown how paying money for items they would have gotten for free is a benefit to players. The issue is larger than just EQ2 and that is why I choose to discuss it.
For the record I don't think you or Moirae work for SOE.

After playing for 3.5 years... and read crap like this, Yes I will bash this game all I want. Smedley has turned me into a hater I guess. This is nothing more than the dev team seeing dollar signs and the game play is going to take a dive.
Soon groups will be like this: grp lfm 80 heals (must have mythical and fables) for instance grp pst.
The game is already based on elitism as is because if your not geared "properly" and you dont play for 30+ hrs per week you cant join certain grps or raids.... So in the future if you dont raid your ass off or buy from SOE .... Your pretty much gonna be a bench warmer because you will not have the gear to keep up. This game is not about skill.... its about putting in the most time to acquire the right gear.
So I ask all of you (its not forced people).... Where does that leave the casual gamer who only plays roughly 10hrs per week? And where does that peeple who wont pay for gear?
because the crap they are trying to sell is just that, crap. Theres absolutely nothing worth paying for that is essential. The Truely funny part about that interview was this part.
Ten Ton Hammer: How has the initial response to Station Cash been so far? Has it been received well? Has it been used a lot?
Bruce Ferguson: That’s kind of difficult to say. There are lots of different avenues in expressing yourself. I would say it’s been received fairly well. There are certainly some people who have reacted negatively. There are some people who have reacted positively, and it seems like the great majority of them have said: “I’ll wait and see.” I think it’s been quite favorable, relatively speaking.
Me and the wife were on a break from EQ2 lol still paying on our accounts, until of course me and her apparently decided to take a wait and see approach by canceling both accounts lol.

I appreciate your response on this. You write well and I did not see the need for the insulting additions since you do make valid points even if I disagree. I wasn't specifically refering to you about the comments made about my connections to SOE.
I still think EQ2 is the best show in town at the moment. I can say that and still not be a fan of SOE. I find that so many are so pissed about NGE that they build crazy ideas about SOE. SOE is just a business, they do good things and bad things, and when it comes down to it the only one they hurt with bad ideas is themselves. I can say this because I do not invest the intense emotions some do with mmos. I still view them as just games. My favorite type of entertainment by far but still just games. If they drop the ball so far I can not catch it, I simply move on. I do not like leaving the hard work I put in. However, for me it is not the stuff I get in game. It is the journey that I love. That is why I can accept an item mall like in EQ2, it simply does not diminish the fun I have on the journey. Now if they go to far and it ruins the journey I am the first to move on. Sometime with a heavy heart put I take my time and money elsewhere. I am happy that mmos have gotten more popular. This gives me other places to go when my time in a game is over or the developers have pushed me to far. I hope to have many more journeys in EQ2 but I am also looking for other new journeys to experience.
I feel sorry for EQ2 players. Either SOE break their word again and add stat items which will unbalance the game - or they continue to sell fluff which basically amounts to a tax on roleplayers. Neither of which is acceptable. They need to pull the whole idea while they can, although we all know they won't.
Oh for gods sakes..... ITS OPTIONAL. How the hell is that "taxes"? Taxes aren't optional kid.
OK 'kid', so that may be overstating it. However, it still boils down to people (roleplayers, fluff-lovers, call them what you will) only being able to obtain the kind of items that would have been previously included as part of their subscription cost at an extra price. One would have to be naive to think that future items of this sort will not be held back from the game to be sold at a profit. If they want to fully implement this system, the game needs to be free to play, but having both a subscription cost and a marketplace for these items stinks of greed, and does nothing but harm for SOE's already poor reputation.

For a lot of people SOE has done a good many things to destroy/harm their enjoyment of the journey in their games. Some long before the NGE and some long after and unrelated. There has been far more than the NGE to be upset with SOE about and many tend to just sweep everything else under the rug, because of how overshadowing the NGE was in comparison to many of SOEs actions. People are passionate about their hobbies, much like you are passionate about the graphics in this game.
While I respect your choice to play and somewhat understand your yiedling to not take a stand against things that don't directly affect you, that is part of what Sony is counting on. They need people to not care while they slowly introduce these sorts of things. Bruce Ferguson has already shown they have much bigger plans in place that could ruin your journey, but I'm not sure how that relates to you not caring about "ifs". Even still I think this isn't a case of IF, but more a case of WHEN as many have been saying for years.
The problem has always been that when SOE does finally get around to screwing with someones gaming experience, the rest of the community tells them to shut up about it as if ignoring the problem will somehow make it go away. The whole submissive nature is really mind boggling to be honest.
Lastly, when you say SOE is just a business it really doesn't pay respect to just how differently they opperate in comparison to just about every other MMO company on the market right now. SOE really does not behave like any other business.

Money Grab = Yes
"PURE SCAM" = No
i do think it is a scam, or bad business put it this way.
you are alergic to peanuts
a company says we will sell you peanut free chocolate bars in boxes, WE WILL NOT PUT ANY PEANUTS in them nor we have any future plans to do so.
you say ok ill take 3 full boxes then. (the comany says that they will take the money and send you 1 box at a time to be sure that the chocolate does not spoil. when you are done with one they will send you the other)
so you agree and pay them. first box comes, yay no peanuts, you eat it all, then you hear in the news that they have changed the plan to appeal to a bigger market who likes peanuts in their chocolate bar. next month you get your chocolate box (that you already payed for) but it has peanuts!!! and they do not make peanut free chocolates anymore...
so you have now 2 boxes that are just sitting there that you can't eat. company has your money and they do not give refunds.

(,,,)=^__^=(,,,)
because the crap they are trying to sell is just that, crap. Theres absolutely nothing worth paying for that is essential. It's all nice pretty fluff, except for the achievement xp potion, which is pretty much useless because how often do you get achievement xp? rarely, and your rest xp doubles it anyway.
and at least they arent charging 15 bucks for a makeover unlike another game
I feel sorry for EQ2 players. Either SOE break their word again and add stat items which will unbalance the game - or they continue to sell fluff which basically amounts to a tax on roleplayers. Although it still sucks, they should have servers that don't have sony cash items implemented. So there is the fair servers and scam server.
This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
